Planning commission vacancies on agenda for Tuesday in Reno Co.

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Board of Reno County Commissioners will discuss filling upcoming vacancies on the county's planning commission as part of their meeting Tuesday.

The Reno County Planning Commission consists of seven members appointed by the Board of County Commissioners. Of the seven members, a majority must live in an unincorporated area of Reno County. Bruce Buchanan resigned this fall. He was a member that lived in an incorporated area. At the end of 2021, Lisa French's term ends and she has termed out for the time being. Ms. French lived in an unincorporated area.

The county commission needs to fill two seats with at least one of them being in the unincorporated area of Reno County. There were six residents that have applied for the planning commission seats.

The six applicants are Frank Craig, Karen Ridgway, Dave Roby, Allen Shafer, Garth Strand and Ron Vincent.

The Board was given four options by staff to look at on Tuesday:

1. Review the applications and select two (2) members to serve on the board, beginning in January 2022

2. Invite the members to a December meeting to interview, followed by selection two members

3. Appoint the Chair to interview the planning commission applicants with staff and come back to a meeting in December for recommendation of two members to serve on the planning commission

4. Table any decision until a future meeting

The Board of Reno County Commissioners meeting Tuesday begins at 9 a.m. at the Reno County Annex.
