The rain that swept through Hutchinson Wednesday night has forced the cancellation of this Friday’s Salt City Racing at the Kansas State Fairgrounds.

Organizers said the storm left the track waterlogged and unsafe for competition. “The rain that blew through Hutch last night, it just killed us,” Phil Nightengale said.

“We really needed to get on the racetrack yesterday, and couldn't get that done, and thought if we could still get on it today, but there's just no chance of that happening. It doesn't look like so we're not going to wait it out and keep everybody guessing." said Nick Baalman.

"So going to give everybody ample, ample chances to change their plans or make different plans for Friday night, and we'll be back on October the 10th and 11th." added Baalman.

This marks the second straight year weather has forced the September event off the schedule. “I guess Mother Nature doesn’t want us to race in September at the fairgrounds,” Nightengale joked. “We’ll take the hint and move forward.”
