⛳ Northgraves leads Dragons in final round at WSU

NEWTON – Sophomore Jack Northgraves shot a 1-under 71 on Tuesday to lead the No. 3-ranked Hutchinson Community College men's golf team in the final round of the Grier Jones Shocker Invitational at Sand Creek Station.

The Blue Dragons shot a final-round 293 on Tuesday and tied with Southern Indiana University for 12th-place at 882.

Hutchinson counted scores on Tuesday from Northgraves, Grant Hatzenbuehler (72), Corey Scullion (75) and Mark Hewlett (75).

The Dragons had team rounds of 299, 290 and 293.

Hatzenbuehler was the only Blue Dragon to finish in the individual Top 20 at the Shocker Invitational. The tied for 19th at 217 after his 72 on Tuesday. That was Hatzenbuehler's ninth round of par or lower this season.

Scullion tied for 38th at 221 after his second-straight round of 75.

Northgraves, who had five birdies, two bogeys and a double bogey on Tuesday for his team-low round of 71, tied for 46th at 222.

Hewlett tied for 55th at 224 after shooting a 75 in the final round.

Ronnie Gibb and Blue Dragon individual player Joe Austin tied for 79th at 230. Gibb had a 79 on Tuesday and Austin had a tournament-low 75.

Kansas City and St. Thomas tied for the team championship at 862. Wichita State was third at 865.

Midland was the top NJCAA team with a fifth-place finish at 871. The Chaparrals shot 289 on Tuesday. Odessa was ninth at 875 and Indian Hills was 11th at 880. Garden City placed 15th at 897 and Dodge City finished 17th at 908.

The Blue Dragons travel to Amarillo, Texas on Monday and Tuesday for the Ryan Palmer Classic.
