
SHAWNEE COUNTY—Authorities are investigating the cause of a house fire in Topeka.
Just after 1a.m. Sunday, fire crews responded to a house fire at 1240 NE Madison Street in Topeka, according to Public Education Officer Alan Stahl.
Upon arrival, fire crews found smoke and flames coming from the single story residence. A primary search revealed there were no occupants at the time of the fire. The house was vacant.
A preliminary investigation indicates the fire cause to be intentionally set, according to Stahl. The estimated dollar loss – $16,000.00; of which $15,000.00 is associated with structural loss and $1,000.00 associated with contents loss. Working smoke detectors were not located within the home, according to Stahl.
