Jordan Kuhnau and Eli Duncan each hit a pair of home runs to lead a Blue Dragon onslaught of seven homers on Saturday as the No. 20-ranked Hutchinson Community College baseball team rolled to a doubleheader sweep and Jayhawk West series victory over Seward County at Hobart-Detter Field.
The Blue Dragons hit three home runs and starting pitcher Karter Chamberlain threw a complete game in an 11-4 win in the first game on Saturday. Brayden Henry followed Chamberlain with a season-high eight strikeouts in his first career start while the offense added four homers in a 19-2 run-rule victory in seven innings.
Hutchinson improved to 37-11 overall and pulled within two games of first place Cloud County in the Jayhawk West at 19-5. The Blue Dragons open a four-game Jayhawk West series on Thursday against the Pratt Beavers at 1 and 3:30 p.m. on Thursday at Hobart-Detter Field.
The Blue Dragons won the season series with Seward County 3-1. After dropping the series opener 7-1 at Seward County on Thursday in Liberal, the Blue Dragons outscored the Saints 53-20 and hit 14 home runs in the final three games of the series.
GAME 1 RECAP – Hutchinson 10, Seward County 4
Chamberlain (6-1) earned his sixth win with his first career complete game. Chamberlain tossed a career-long seven innings. He scattered nine hits and allowed four runs, but only one earned run. Chamberlain struck out seven and had no walks. The Blue Dragons committed four errors in the game.
Chamberlain had plenty of offensive support as Hutchinson maximized its six hits.
Kuhnau had his fifth two-home run game of the season, going 2 for 3 and four RBIs. He hit a two-run homer to right-center in the first inning and added a two-run shot to right field in the fourth.
Aidan Marien added a two-run homer in the second in going 1 for 4 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Anthony Mazza was 1 for 2 with a two-run triple in the fourth inning.
Leading 5-1 after three innings, the Dragons erupted for five runs in the fourth inning. Marien had an RBI triple, followed by a two-run Mazza triple and a two-run Kuhnau home run.
Now with 19 home runs for the season, Kuhnau is tied for fourth on the Blue Dragon single-season home run list with Brad Flanders, Ben McLaughlin and Sterling Sutcliffe.
GAME 2 RECAP – Hutchinson 19, Seward County 2 (7 innings)
Hutchinson scored 11 runs in the first two innings and rolled to its 16th run-rule win of the season.
The Blue Dragons hammered out 16 hits, including 10 extra-base hits, which included four home runs, the 14th time in 2026 the Dragons hit four or more home runs.
Duncan hit a pair of two-run home runs in his first two at-bats for his second two-homer game this season, which is the 15th time a Blue Dragon had two-home run game this season. Duncan was 2 for 4 with a season-high four RBIs and a pair of runs scored.
Cru Huenfeld went 3 for 5 with a double, triple and five RBIs, his fourth game this season of five or more RBIs.
Finn Hochstein went 3 for 3 with a solo home run in the fourth.
Kuhnau was 2 for 4 with a pair of RBI doubles and three RBIs. Now with 75 RBIs this season, Kuhnau is tied for fifth on the single-season RBI list with Zane Schmidt and Austin Callahan.
Mazza was 2 for 2 with a double, RBI and three runs scored.
Henry tossed a season-high five innings in its first career start. Now 5-2 with the win, Henry struck out eight with three hits, two runs and one walk allowed.
The Blue Dragons are now 24-4 at Hobart-Detter Field this season.
