Velma Mae (Mease) Thom, 93, of Medicine Lodge, KS, died Monday, January 17, 2022 at Medicine Lodge Memorial Hospital with her family at her side.
She was born on June 11, 1928 near Isabel, to Byron and Bertha (Price) Mease.

Velma graduated from Isabel High School in 1946. She attended Southwestern College for two years before the love of her life after returning from war said: marry me now or never. They did. On November 14, 1948 she married Charles Wayne Thom and began 70 years of loving marriage. Wayne and Velma set up farming and ranching in the Lake City area and eventually moving to Isabel in 1953.
Through the years Velma was a devoted wife and after a rough start a Mother. She was a co-founder of the Valley Builders EHU, Nashville Dorcus Society, Medicine Lodge Lady’s of Trinity, and a 4-H leader.
Velma was formerly a member of St. John Lutheran church Nashville, currently Trinity Lutheran Church, Medicine Lodge.
Her greatest joy was working alongside her family and husband on all farm projects and growing her family in a loving home. Velma loved cooking with her kids and grands, gardening, sewing, developing friendships with everyone she met, and pulling those darn weeds in her yard. She was a kind soul, always smiling, tough as nails, and a beautiful person inside and out.
Surviving are her sons, Matt Thom, Medicine Lodge; Monte (Toni) Thom, Medicine Lodge; Clark (Brandi) Thom, Isabel.
Her grandchildren, Micah (Andy) Waggoner, Isabel; Riley Thom (Reagan Fischer) Medicine Lodge; Carrington Jo Thom, Wichita; Micah John (Taylor) Polson, Pratt; Madison Polson ( Hunter Soyez) Wichita; Morgan Polson, Hays; Kristine Landwehr (Andy Larkin), Medicine Lodge; Herbie (Laura) Landwehr, Sharon; Heath (Alyssa) Landwehr, Sharon.
Her great grandchildren, Braylee and Blaine Waggoner, Isabel; Emersyn May Polson, Pratt; Jocelyn Jones, Medicine Lodge; Hayes Landwehr, Sharon. Sister-in-law, Eleanor Banks, cousin, Glenn Dirks and life-long friend, Juanita Keller.
