
MCPHERSON, Kan. - It took a while, but finally the lid came off of the Hutchinson Salthawk basket and allowed the Salthawk girls to roll to a 45-27 win over a pesky Dodge City team on Thursday afternoon in McPherson.
Hutchinson finally found their long range shooting after going 2-14 from long range and 8 for 30 overall in the 1st half. Hutch allowed Dodge only 10 shots but they cashed in on 6 of them to take a 13-12 lead after the first quarter.
Hutch led 21-19 at the half, then the defense clamped down to hold the Red Demons to only 4 points in each of the final two quarters while senior guard Lily Rodriquez hit back-to-back treys and Clara Ontjes connected on another 3rd quarter trey to final allow the Salthawks to get going in the third and 4th quarter.
Grace Posh led the Salthawks with 17 points while Kohbie Craft had he best game of the season with 11 points and 4 boards.
Dodge City was led by Addisyn Taylor's 13 points.
Turnovers were also a big factor as the Red Demons committed 30 while the Salthawks played a clean game with only 5 turnovers and 14 steals.
Next action for the Salthawk girls will be in the MAC semi-finals tonight as the take on Olathe South who won over Shawnee Mission East 46 to 25 at 6:10pm.
