LINN COUNTY —A duck hunter is recovering after a Kansas game warden helped save his life.

On Sunday evening, Game Warden Falls responded to the Marais des Cygnes Wildlife Area to locate and rescue a duck hunter, who was suffering from hypothermia and going into shock, according to a social media report from the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks.

EMS transported the hunter to an area hospital for further treatment. A friend of the hunter responding to the social media report the game wardens reported the hunter is out of the hospital and recovering. "We cannot thank the KDWP team enough for their help in not only saving my buddy, but recovering his boat out of the marsh as well and even helping us load it."

TEL AVIV, Israel (AP) — Israel and Hamas agreed to extend their cease-fire for two more days past Monday, raising the prospect of further exchanges of militant-held hostages for Palestinians imprisoned by Israel and a longer halt to&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/israel-hamas-war">their deadliest and most destructive war</a>.

Eleven Israeli women and children, freed by Hamas, entered Israel Monday night after more than seven weeks in captivity in Gaza in the fourth swap under the original four-day truce, which began Friday and was due to run out. Thirty-three Palestinian prisoners released by Israel arrived early Tuesday in east Jerusalem and the West Bank town of Ramallah. The prisoners were greeted by loud cheers as their bus made its way through the streets of Ramallah.

The deal for two additional days of cease-fire, announced by Qatar, raised hopes for further extensions, which also allow more aid into Gaza. Conditions there have remained dire for 2.3 million Palestinians, battered by weeks of Israeli bombardment and a ground offensive that have driven three-quarters of the population from their homes.

Israel has said it would extend the cease-fire by one day for every 10 additional hostages released. After the announcement by Qatar —&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/joe-biden-israel-hamas-war-hostage-qatar-0126c6443a9b3b32fe97032b81eaa515">a key mediator in the conflict,</a>&nbsp;along with the United States and Egypt — Hamas confirmed it had agreed to a two-day extension “under the same terms.”

But Israel says it remains committed to crushing Hamas’ military capabilities and ending its 16-year rule over Gaza after its&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/israel-palestinian-war-hamas-attack-border-wall-aa0b0f5f3613b6c6882cf37168e8e8ed">Oct. 7 attack into southern Israel</a>. That would likely mean&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/israel-palestinians-hamas-gaza-war-humanitarian-shifa-29388314e3286b2b0f1152f7d15e2d7b">expanding a ground offensive</a>&nbsp;from devastated northern Gaza to the south.

Monday’s releases bring to 51 the number of Israelis freed under the truce, along with 19 hostages of other nationalities. So far, 150 Palestinians have been released from Israeli prisons.

After weeks of national trauma over the roughly 240 people abducted by Hamas and other militants, scenes of the women and children reuniting with families have rallied Israelis behind calls to return those who remain in captivity.

“We can get all hostages back home. We have to keep pushing,” two relatives of&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/children-hostages-israel-palestinians-gaza-orphan-c8e9f6dd703a9c14161eeb6ca9e25417">Abigail Edan</a>, a 4-year-old girl and dual Israeli-American citizen who was released Sunday, said in a statement.

Hamas and other militants could still be holding up to 175 hostages, enough to potentially extend the cease-fire for two and a half weeks. But those include a number of soldiers, and Hamas is likely to make much greater demands for their release.

The newly released hostages included three women and nine children — including 3-year-old twin girls and their mother — from the kibbutz Nir Oz, a community near Gaza that was hard hit in Hamas’ Oct. 7 attack. The kibbutz said 49 of its residents remain in captivity, including the father of the twins. The Israeli military said late Monday that the hostages were undergoing initial medical checks in Israel before being reunited with their families.

Most of the hostages freed so far have appeared to be physically well. But 84-year-old Elma Avraham, released Sunday, was airlifted to Israel’s Soroka Medical Center in life-threatening condition because of inadequate care, the hospital said.

Avraham’s daughter, Tali Amano, said her mother was “hours from death” when she was brought to the hospital. Avraham is currently sedated and has a breathing tube, but Amano said she told her of a new great-grandchild who was born while she was in captivity.

Avraham suffered from several chronic conditions that required regular medications but was stable before she was kidnapped, Amano said Monday.

So far, 19 people of other nationalities have been freed during the truce, mostly Thai nationals. Eight or nine Americans remain as hostages, according to&nbsp;White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby.

Many&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/israel-gaza-hamas-war-thai-workers-dd03c7a7d133eacacf314668b4dee493">Thais work in Israel</a>, largely as farm laborers.

France said three of the hostages released Monday were French-Israeli dual citizens, two 12-year-olds and one 16-year-old. The French government is ‘’working tirelessly’’ to free five other French citizens held hostage, the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The Palestinian prisoners released so far have been mostly teenagers accused of throwing stones and firebombs during confrontations with Israeli forces, or of less-serious offenses. But some were convicted in alleged attempts to carry out stabbings, bombings and shootings. Many Palestinians view&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/middle-east-israel-prisons-arrests-west-bank-fc894c6f56318fb6fb2f080555b40b6f">prisoners held by Israel</a>, including those implicated in attacks, as heroes resisting occupation.

The freed hostages have mostly stayed out of the public eye, but&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/hostages-hamas-war-israel-gaza-captivity-militants-612542191742082f330d55433c012a05">details of their captivity</a>&nbsp;have started to trickle out.

Merav Raviv, whose three relatives were released Friday, said they had been fed irregularly and lost weight. One reported eating mainly bread and rice and sleeping on a makeshift bed of chairs pushed together. Hostages sometimes had to wait for hours to use the bathroom, she said.

In Washington, White House National Security Council spokesman John Kirby welcomed the extension of the truce.

“We would, of course, hope to see the pause extended further, and that will depend upon Hamas continuing to release hostages,” Kirby told reporters.

More than 13,300 Palestinians have been killed since the war began, roughly two-thirds of them women and minors, according to the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/israel-hamas-war-gaza-health-ministry-health-death-toll-59470820308b31f1faf73c703400b033">Health Ministry in Hamas-ruled Gaza</a>, which does not differentiate between civilians and combatants. More than 1,200 people have been killed on the Israeli side, mostly civilians killed in the initial attack. At least 77 soldiers have been killed in Israel’s ground offensive.

The calm from the truce allowed glimpses of the destruction wreaked by weeks of Israeli bombardment that&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/palestinians-gaza-israel-bombing-destruction-hamas-reconstruction-f299a28410b70ee05dd764df97d8d3a0">leveled entire neighborhoods</a>.

Footage showed a complex of several dozen multistory residential buildings that had been pummeled into a landscape of wreckage in the northern town of Beit Hanoun. Nearly every building was destroyed or severely damaged, some reduced to concrete frames half-slumped over. At a nearby U.N. school, the buildings were intact but partially burned and riddled with holes.

“My clothes are all wet, and I am unable to change them.” said Mansour, who is disabled. “I have not drunk water for two days, and there’s no bathroom to use.”

The U.N. says the truce made it possible to&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/israel-hamas-palestinians-truce-red-cross-crescent-14cd8cae0f6e064484167c66bbcecf8f">scale up the delivery</a>&nbsp;of food, water and medicine to the largest volume since the start of the war. But the 160 to 200 trucks a day is still less than half what Gaza was importing before the fighting, even as humanitarian needs have soared.

Long lines formed outside stations distributing cooking fuel, allowed in for the first time. Fuel for generators has been brought for key service providers, including hospitals and water and sanitation facilities, but bakeries have been unable to resume work, the U.N. said.

Iyad Ghafary, a vendor in the urban Nuseirat refugee camp in central Gaza, said many families were still unable to retrieve the dead from&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/israel-palestinians-gaza-buried-rubble-airstrikes-89c0e8d0934d573d94d2fbfeba44d933">under the rubble</a>&nbsp;left by Israeli airstrikes, and that local authorities weren’t equipped to deal with the level of destruction.

🎥White House: 8 or 9 Americans still held hostage in Gaza

JOHNSON COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating three suspects involved in a crash during high-speed chase on Monday in Johnson County.

Just before 4:30p.m. Monday, police responded to a felony theft in progress in the 7900 block of W. 160th Street in Overland Park, according to Officer John Lacy.

 Loss Prevention Officers were able to provide a description of the three female suspects and the suspect vehicle leaving the scene. 

 A Police Supervisor arrived in the area and identified the suspect vehicle as a 2010 Acura TSX and attempted to initiate a traffic stop.  The Acura and the Patrol vehicle made contact. 

The Acura then fled northbound onto US. 69 Highway from W.159th Street and failed to yield to the police vehicle.  The Acura exited onto northbound Blue Valley Parkway from U.S. 69 Highway.  At Blue Valley Parkway and W.119th Street the Acura failed to stop at a red light and struck a westbound 2015 Chevy Equinox driven by Christine Carla&nbsp;Cecchini, 59, Olathe.

EMS transported the driver of the Acura identified as 22-year-old Shyanne Bri'na&nbsp;Canady of Kansas City, Kansas to Overland Park Regional Medical Center. She was was treated for minor injuries, released and is in custody in Johnson County, according to Officer Lacy.

The passengers in the suspect vehicle identified as 22-year-old Inez Aubreina&nbsp;Easley of Kansas City, Missouri and 22-year-old Imari T. Collins of Kansas City, Kansas and&nbsp;Cecchini  were also transported Overland Park Regional Medical Center for treatment of serious injuries. The occupants of the Acura were not wearing seat belts, according to the KHP.

4 injured after chase, crash with Kan. shoplifting suspects

KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating the death of a young boy found in an alley in downtown Kansas City.

Just after 11a.m. Monday officers were dispatched to 10th and Grand Avenue, according to Sheriff Daryl Forte'.

First responders located the boy who was suffering from bodily trauma. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene. A KCPD spokesperson believes victim is younger than a teenager, according to Forte'.

 </figure>KANSAS CITY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating the death of a young boy found in an alley in downtown Kansas City.Just after 11a.m. Monday officers were dispatched to 10th and Grand Avenue, according to Sheriff Daryl Forte'.First responders located the boy who was suffering from bodily trauma. EMS pronounced him dead at the scene. A KCPD spokesperson believes victim is younger than a teenager, according to Forte'.

SEDGWICK COUNTY - A man arrested in Mexico for the murder of two people in January 2020 at the Hotel at WaterWalk in Wichita was scheduled for sentencing Tuesday. For the second consecutive week, the hearing was continued, according to the Sedgwick County District attorney's office.

In October, 37-year-old Kyle Young plead guilty to the murder of&nbsp;27-year-old George Kirksey and 22-year-old Alicia Roman, according to the district attorney's office.

In the early morning of January 2, 2020, police responded to a shooting call at the Hotel at WaterWalk in the 700 block of South Main, in Wichita, according to officer Kevin Wheeler.

Upon arrival, officers located the bodies of Kirksey and Roman with multiple gunshot wounds, according to officer Kevin Wheeler.

The investigation revealed that Kirksey and Roman were inside of the hotel room when a suspect identified as&nbsp; Young entered the room and fired multiple shots, striking them and then fleeing on foot.

Investigators learned of Young's involvement and six months later located him in Mexico and made an arrest, according to Wheeler.

Sentencing delayed for Kan. double-murder suspect captured in Mexico

On Sunday, the USS Mason and partner nation naval vessels responded to a distress call from the commercial shipping vessel M/V Central Park, which had been boarded by five armed individuals while in transit in the Gulf of Aden near Yemen, said the Pentagon press secretary

"[The Central Park] was boarded by these five individuals. They attempted to access the crew cabin," Air Force Brig. Gen. Pat Ryder said this morning during a meeting with the Pentagon press corps. "The crew, essentially, [was] able to lock themselves into a safe haven. These individuals attempted to access and take control of the ship."&nbsp;

The crew of the Central Park issued the distress call on the evening of Nov. 26. The distress call was responded to by the USS Mason, allied ships and associated aircraft which are part of Combined Task Force 151. That task force conducts counter-piracy missions.&nbsp;

After the arrival of the USS Mason and partners with CTF 151, task force personnel demanded the release of the Central Park, Ryder said. The five armed individuals then disembarked the vessel and fled in a small boat.&nbsp;

"After the five individuals fled, the Mason sent out a visit, board, search and seizure team on the water that stopped the small boat. They detained the individuals, and then ... the VBSS team boarded the Central Park and cleared the vessel," Ryder said, adding that the Central Park crew was found to be safe following the incident.&nbsp;

While the identity of the five armed attackers was not yet confirmed, Ryder said initial indications are that the individuals are Somali. All five are currently being held aboard the USS Mason.&nbsp;

Hours later, early in the morning of Nov. 27, Yemen time, two ballistic missiles were fired toward the general location of the Mason and the Central Park.&nbsp;

"Initial indications were that two ballistic missiles were fired from Houthi-controlled areas in Yemen, toward the general location of the Mason and the Central Park," Ryder said. "The missiles landed in the Gulf of Aden, approximately 10 nautical miles from the ships. It is not clear at this time what they were targeting."&nbsp;

Ryder said that neither the USS Mason nor the Central Park were damaged by the missiles and that the Central Park is now back under power and on its way.&nbsp;

Pentagon IDs nation of origin of hijackers held by the U.S. Navy

SALINE COUNTY —The Saline County Sheriff’s Office is searching for two suspects who broke into Jenni's Liquor in Brookville early Friday morning, according to Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan. They escaped with $327 of Crown Royal Whiskey.

Just after 6:30a.m. Nov. 23, the suspects arrived in a white Toyota Tacoma truck and used a key to enter the store.

"Two subjects got out — a thin man with darker skin wearing a grey hoodie and a black mask went to the front door, followed by a large heavyset man in a blue hoodie and a full face mask," Soldan said.

About 30 seconds after the suspects entered the building, the surveillance footage showed they left with multiple Crown Royal Whiskey bottles.

Jenni's Liquor reported that the suspects took five bottles of Crown Royal Chiefs Edition, two bottles of Crown Royal Black, and a bottle of Crown Royal Apple.

Sheriff: Suspects stole over $300 in whiskey in Kan. burglary

TOPEKA, KAN. – A Kansas man has been charged through criminal complaint in Topeka, Kansas, following an incident on a federal military installation, according to the United State's Attorney.

According to court documents, Jordan Thompson, 24, of Galena is charged with two counts of assault with a deadly weapon for allegedly assaulting two people on November 24, 2023, while at Fort Riley.

The defendant made his initial court appearance Monday before U.S. Magistrate Judge Rachel E. Schwartz of the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison on each count.

The Department of Army Criminal Investigation Division, Fort Riley Department of the Army Civilian Police, Kansas Bureau of Investigation, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Butler County Sheriff’s Office are investigating the case.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Stephen Hunting and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney Robin Graham are prosecuting the case.

Man charged in connection with Amber Alert incident at Fort Riley

WASHINGTON (AP) — Step inside the White House during the holidays by walking beneath the branches of a Christmas tree. Stroll along a hallway decorated with oversized holiday candy and other sweets. See Santa’s sleigh and his eight reindeer suspended above the grand foyer in dramatic fashion.

Jill Biden wants everyone who visits the White House through Christmas to feel like a kid again.

“Each room on display is designed to capture the pure, unfiltered delight and imagination of our childhoods, to see this time of year through the wondrous, sparkling eyes of children,” the first lady says. She’s playing host for a reception on Monday to formally unveil the décor and thank some 300 designers and decorators who volunteered to spend the past week transforming the executive mansion.

“Magic, Wonder and Joy” is the theme this year, the Bidens’ third in the White House.

The whimsical set of oversized decorations is meant to inspire the feelings that put children on joyful edge at this time of the year, White House aides said.

Throughout two public floors of the White House, the décor features numerous nods to the 200th anniversary of the publication of the poem and book commonly known as “’Twas the Night Before Christmas.” (The official title is “A Visit from St. Nicholas.”)

The Library of Congress provided samples of editions of the book from the past 200 years that are on display in protective cases along the ground floor corridor. The traditional gingerbread White House includes a large sugar cookie replica of the book opened to a page that says “Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.” Santa’s sleigh and reindeer fly above the cookie White House.

The White House released a fact sheet and allowed the news media to see the trees, lights and other decorations before the first lady’s unveiling. National Guard families, who were invited as part of Joining Forces, her White House initiative to show appreciation for military families, will be among the first members of the public to see the decorations.

Children of these and other military families were also being treated to an afternoon performance by the cast of the North American tour of the Disney musical “Frozen.”

One of the first Christmas trees visitors will see upon entering the White House is decorated with wooden gold star ornaments engraved with the names of fallen service members.

The official White House Christmas tree, an 18.5-foot-tall (5.6-meter-tall) Fraser fir, stands in its usual place in the Blue Room. The massive tree highlights cheerful scenes, landscapes and neighborhoods from across the country. A toy train runs around its base.

The State Dining Room has been transformed into Santa’s workshop, with elves’ workbenches, stools and ladders circling Christmas trees, and tools and gifts-in-progress rounding out the décor.

The dining room is the customary stage for the gingerbread White House, which was assembled using 40 sheets of sugar cookie dough for the book and 40 sheets of gingerbread dough for the house, 90 pounds (41 kilograms) of pastillage, a cake decorating paste, 30 pounds (14 kilograms) of chocolate and 50 pounds (23 kilograms) of royal icing.

The library honors the tradition of bedtime stories with dangling golden moons and shimmering stars;, the China Room has been turned into a sweet shop featuring baked goodies, and the Vermeil Room celebrates music with a display of rotating big Marine Band figurines with trumpets.

Glowing candles and stained glass in the Green Room celebrate faith, and holiday craft-making is the theme in the Red Room, where a tradition of featuring cranberries continues.

The official White House Menorah is on display in the Cross Hall connecting the State Dining Room and the East Room, which is decorated with trees and various advent calendars.

In her prepared remarks, the first lady says she knows that magic, wonder and joy can be hard to find, especially as the days grow shorter, the weather turns colder “and our hearts grow heavy in the face of a tumultuous world.”

“But it’s in these times, when we are searching for hope and healing, that we need those points of light the most, that we need each other the most,” she says. “It’s in these times that I hope you remember, if even just for a moment or a season, how you saw the world as a child.”

Ninety-eight Christmas trees, nearly 34,000 ornaments, over 22,000 bells and more than 350 candles were used in the decor, according to the White House. Nearly 142,500 lights illuminate trees, garlands, wreaths and other displays, and nearly 15,000 feet (4,600 meters) of ribbon are part of it all.

Seventy-two wreaths sporting red ribbons adorn the north and south exteriors of the building.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2005 Chevy Silverado driven by Nathaniel Dean Gray, 43, Kansas City, Kansas was westbound on Interstate 70 near 18th Street.&nbsp; He was impaired, according to the KHP.

The pickup struck the drivers side rear of a westbound 2012 Chevy Silverado driven by&nbsp; Eric&nbsp;Guzman-Bustillos, 26, Kansas City, Kansas.&nbsp; After impact the 2012 Silverado struck the barrier wall and overturned. Gray fled the scene

Both vehicles were traveling Westbound on I70 around 18th Street. Driver 1 was impaired. Vehicle 1 struck the driver's side rear of Vehicle 2. Vehicle 2 then struck the barrier wall and overturned. Driver 1 fled from the scene.

Fourth hostage release: 2 women, 9 children; no Americans included

SALINE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are working to positively identify the body of a man found in Saline County last week.&nbsp; It is believed to be&nbsp; 20-year-old Jessi J. Herbst from Lacrosse, according to Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan.

On Nov. 22, the Saline County Sheriff's Office reported to the 6000 block of State Street, where a passerby noticed a black Dodge pickup crashed in the trees near the road, according to Soldan.

The truck was traveling westbound on State Street when it left the roadway and crashed into the trees. "Turns out the vehicle had been in the trees for some time," Soldan said. "There was a body found out there."

Deputies found human remains near the wreck, and until now, dense foliage hid the scene from view. The truck belonged to&nbsp; Herbst&nbsp; who was last seen this summer.

"He was reported back in July as a missing person — possibly endangered, he was possibly suicidal," Soldan said. The individual was likely Herbst, but an autopsy report will confirm the identity.

just before 6 a.m., crews responded to a houe fire located at 1624 SW Topeka Blvd., according to spokesperson Gretchen Spiker.

Upon arrival, crews found smoke coming from the two-story home that is being used as apartments. Crews began an offensive attack and were able to keep the fire contained to the first floor, where the fire originated. No occupants were located in the residence, and no injuries were reported.

Investigators determined the fire cause is accidental. The estimated loss from this incident is approximately $11,500. Working smoke detectors were not located in the residence.

A United States House committee continues to probe whether
President Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, used his father’s influence to enhance his
business dealings abroad.

The House Oversight Committee has issued subpoenas to Hunter
Biden as well as to James Biden, the president’s brother.

Eastern Kansas Congressman Jake LaTurner sits on the Oversight
Committee and insists the committee isn’t obsessed with the president, pointing
to its investigations into the southern border, the mismanaged Afghanistan
withdrawal, as well as waste and abuse in the government.

“And we’ve also been following the facts as it relates to Joe
Biden and his influence peddling schemes,” LaTurner tells KFEQ/St. Joseph Post
in an interview.

LaTurner and his fellow Republicans accuse the Democratic
president of using his influence, both when he was vice president and now to
help his son’s business ventures. LaTurner says Republicans on the committee
have been uncovering some unsavory trends.

“The headline for all of this is:&nbsp; trust in the government is at an all-time
low,” according to LaTurner. “And I sure as heck understand why. It’s because
these institutions that people used to trust have become politicized.”

House Republicans have issued subpoenas to members of
President Joe Biden's family, taking their most aggressive step yet toward an
impeachment inquiry&nbsp;bitterly opposed by Democrats that is testing the reach of
congressional oversight powers.

The long-awaited move by&nbsp;Congressman James Comer, the chair
of the House Oversight Committee, to subpoena the president's son Hunter and
brother James comes as Republicans look to gain ground in their nearly yearlong
investigation. So far, they have failed to uncover evidence directly
implicating the president in any wrongdoing.

But Republicans say the evidence trail they have uncovered
paints a troubling picture of “influence peddling” by Biden's family in&nbsp;their
business dealings, particularly with clients overseas.

The White House and leading Democrats have continuously&nbsp;dismissed
the investigation as a political ploy&nbsp;aimed at hurting the Democratic president. They say the
probe is a blatant attempt to help former President Donald Trump, the early
front-runner for the 2024 GOP presidential nomination, as he runs again for the
White House.

“The best thing they can do is make this seem like a partisan witch
hunt, so they can discredit what we’re doing,” LaTurner responds. “But the
facts don’t lie. The bank records don’t lie. The American people deserve to know
who has influence over their government, especially when we’re talking about
these foreign companies.”

LaTurner says he has not made up his mind about the extent of
President Biden’s role in his son’s business dealings and whether it reaches
the level of an impeachable offense.

“I have not said, and I’ll say it to you now, I have not said
that Joe Biden should be impeached,” LaTurner says. “I think that that would be
an irresponsible thing for me to say before all the facts are uncovered. And when
they all are uncovered, we need to take the information, we need to look at it
hard, and make a determination at that time. But to do that prematurely would
be wrong.”

Democrats charge Republicans have already made up their minds.

The attorney for Hunter Biden calls the subpoenas “yet another political stunt” and said the
investigation has been full of “worn-out, false, baseless, or debunked claims.”

Kan. congressman accuses President Biden of influence peddling

SALINE COUNTY —Law enforcement authorities are investigating a teen for alleged attempted murder.

Just before 2:30a.m. Saturday, police arrived at a home in the 2100 block of Village Lane in Salina where the parents of a 13-year-old girl reported that she attempted to kill them while they were sleeping.

According to Salina Police Sergeant Kyle Tonniges, the parents recorded the incident through a surveillance camera stationed in their room.

"The surveillance camera shows the 13-year-old coming into the room with a pillow and a knife, a large butcher knife," Tonniges said.

The 13-year-old then attempted to smother her father with the pillow — as he woke up from the incident, she ran into the closet to hide before returning to try again.

The father woke up during the second attempt by the teen and realized his daughter's intent, so he reviewed the video footage from their room.

"She admits that she had gone into this room with the intent of killing both her mother and father. Police arrested her on a requested charge of attempted first-degree murder. She is being held in the Juvenile Detention Center in Junction City.

NEW YORK (AP) — Honda is recalling select 2023-2024 Accord and HR-V vehicles due to a missing piece in the front seat belt pretensioners, which could increase injury risks during a crash.

According to notices published by Honda and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration earlier this week, the pretensioners — which tighten seat belts in place upon impact — may be missing the rivet that secures the quick connector and wire plate. This means that passengers may not be properly restrained in a crash, regulators said.

The NHTSA credited the issue to an error made during assembly. More than 300,000 Accords and HR-Vs are potentially affected.

As of Nov. 16, Honda had received seven warranty claims, but no reports of injuries or deaths related to the faulty pretensioners, according to documents published by the NHTSA.

For consumers impacted by this recall, dealers will inspect all cars and potentially replace the seat belt pretensioner assembly at no cost. Those who have already paid for these repairs at their own expense may also be eligible for reimbursement.

Honda estimates that less than 1% of the potentially affected vehicles will require a replacement. The vast majority are expected to be satisfied by an inspection alone, a Honda spokesperson told The Associated Press on Saturday.
