The Salthawks led 12-4 after one quarter but came out much more aggressive in quarter number two and outscored the Fire 20-4 in the second period to push the lead out. Then a 7-0 third period prompted a 4th quarter running clock.

Hutch High was led by Gabbie Posch's 13 points. Tina Robertson added 11 and Jayci Moriasi had 9 off the bench.

Life Prep's only scorer was Oliwia Lepkowska. She had 10 for the Fire.

Hutchinson will play Goddard Eisenhower Saturday morning at 11 a.m., as Eisenhower beat Wichita South 62-22 in the other afternoon game.

MIAMI (AP) — Kansas City is back in the Super Bowl 50 years after Chiefs coach Hank Stram cracked up the football world by agreeing to be wired for sound for the big game highlight film. And the way we think of highlights will never be the same. NFL Films took a risk in asking Stram to wear the microphone during Kansas City's 23-7 victory over the Minnesota Vikings in Super Bowl 4. It was the first time it had ever been done in the Super Bowl. What came out of it was video gold. The highlight video is now a classic. It's highlighted by Stram's stream-of-consciousness patter that was delivered to players, assistants and the refs. The Wildcats closed out the game with four straight free throws by McGuirl. Kansas State led wire-to-wire, handing the Sooners their fourth lost in their last five five conference games. Alondes Williams scored 15 points for Oklahoma, which was held to its lowest total of the season.

LUBBOCK, Texas (AP) — Davide Moretti had a career-high 25 points and a pair of Texas Tech freshmen also scored more than 20 as the Red Raiders snapped a two-game losing streak with an 89-81 win over No. 12 West Virginia. Terrence Shannon Jr. added 23 points, including 12 of 14 free throws in a game plagued by 54 personal fouls. Jahmi'us Ramsey scored 21 for the Red Raiders, who never trailed. AMES, Iowa (AP) — MaCio Teague scored 15 points and No. 1 Baylor beat Iowa State 67-53. Mark Vital had eight points, 10 rebounds and seven assists for the Bears. Baylor used a 17-2 run midway through the second half to turn a five-point lead into a 59-41 edge with 7:43 left. Devonte Bandoo scored seven of his 12 points off the bench during the spurt, which came after Iowa State coach Steve Prohm was assessed a technical foul. Baylor has won 10 of its past 13 games against the Cyclones. Rasir Bolton led the Cyclones with 19 points and Tyrese Haliburton scored 16.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — Jase Febres scored all 15 of his points on 3-pointers, including a tiebreaking heave from the midcourt logo to beat the shot clock in the final two minutes, and Texas beat TCU 62-61. The Horned Frogs had gone on an 8-0 run for a 59-all tie when Febres ended up with the ball on the “T” of the TCU logo and beat the shot clock. Embattled Texas coach Shaka Smart got his first win in Fort Worth. The Horned Frogs had a chance to win in the final seconds, but RJ Nembhard was called for traveling on a drive.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Victor Oladipo provided a big basket in his return to the Indiana Pacers on Wednesday. Oladipo's only 3-pointer tied the score with 10 seconds left in regulation before the Pacers won for the eighth time in 10 games, 115-106. He had nine points in his first game back since suffering a season-ending knee injury last January.

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) — KJ Feagin scored 18 points and No. 4 San Diego State remained the lone unbeaten team in Division One by pounding New Mexico, 85-57. The 22-0 Aztecs got off to a 17-0 lead while holding New Mexico scoreless for the first 4:44. Malachi Flynn was a key contributor to the victory with 12 points with six assists.

PITTSBURGH (AP) — Seventh-ranked Dayton has continued its best start in the history of its men’s basketball program. Obi Toppin had 22 points and 10 rebounds to help the Flyers hold off Duquesne, 73-69 in Pittsburgh. Dayton led by as many as 19 points in the second half, but the Dukes used a 15-2 run to close the gap before the Flyers improved to 19-2 overall and 8-0 in the Atlantic 10.

Leading by five points with 1:02 remaining in regulation, the Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team saw the Barton Cougars make two huge 3-pointers in the final 13 seconds to force overtime.

The Cougars then outscored Hutchinson 12-5 in the extra session and went on to defeat the Blue Dragons 102-95 in a Jayhawk West showdown on Wednesday at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons fall to 16-6 overall, 7-6 in the Jayhawk West. Hutchinson travels to Seward County on Saturday in Liberal. Barton maintains its share of first place in the league with an overall record of 18-4, 10-3 in the Jayhawk West.

The Blue Dragons trailed by nine points with 4:55 remaining in the first half and rallied to take a 45-43 lead at halftime after closing first half on a 14-2 run. The Blue Dragons raced out to a 67-56 lead with 10:45 to play in the second half and still led 72-65 after a&nbsp;<a href="http://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mbkb/2019-20/bios/mitchell_d.j._eej6">D.J. Mitchell</a>&nbsp;3-pointer with 7:32 remaining in the second half. Barton answered with a 15-8 run and tied the game at 80 on Anthony Atkinson-Enneking jumper with 2:13 to play.

The No. 8-ranked Hutchinson Community College women's basketball team reached the 20-win mark for the 29th time in the program's 47-year history on Wednesday night at the Sports Arena.

The Blue Dragons used another tremendous defensive start to put the Barton Cougars in a huge early hole and roll to a 67-43 Jayhawk West victory.

Hutchinson's sixth-straight win improves its record to 20-2 overall and 12-1 in the Jayhawk East heading into Saturday's road battle at No. 12 Seward County in Liberal. The third-place Cougars drop to 11-11 overall, 7-6 in the Jayhawk West.

The Blue Dragons held their sixth-straight opponent to less than 33 percent shooting and held the Cougars 29 points under their 72-point scoring average. The Dragons have won 10-straight games over Barton.

Hutchinson allowed Barton just one field goal in the opening 10 minutes of the game and built a 20-4 lead at the quarter break. Barton missed 22 of its first 23 shots of the game and went 13 minutes, 52 seconds without a field goal. Hutchinson built a 31-7 lead by that point on back-to-back&nbsp;<a href="http://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wbkb/2019-20/bios/cooper_gelecia_mxl6">Gelecia Cooper</a>&nbsp;inside buckets with 4:49 remaining in the opening half.

MIAMI (AP) — Regardless of your musical tastes, it seems the Super Bowl halftime show has gone there.

From marching bands to New Orleans jazz, from Latin and Caribbean vibes to Motown. From classic rock to country, pop to hip hop and rap.

From the sublime (Tony Bennett) to the ridiculous (Janet Jackson’s “uncovering”, and from Michael Jackson’s moonwalks to U2′s majestic remembrance of the 9/11 victims, the halftime presentations have drawn nearly as much attention as the NFL championship game itself.

It’s certain to do so again on Feb. 2 when Jennifer Lopez and Shakira headline.

“You kind of tune in to the Super Bowl to be surprised,” says Peter O’Reilly, the NFL’s senior vice president of events, “in terms of what can happen, whether it’s the renditions of the national anthem and `America The Beautiful,′ the pregame, halftime. ... Ultimately game day is about moments, creating moments that pull people together and that they talk about forever.”

Those moments range from Bono opening his jacket in New Orleans as the names of the 9/11 victims were displayed in the Superdome to Lady Gaga coming down from the roof of the stadium in Houston. From the Stones and The Boss rocking ballparks to Bruno Mars making not one, but two star turns.

“They are kind of creating those signature moments people remember,” O’Reilly said, “that kind of add and build on what is the power of the Super Bowl as an unofficial national holiday.”

Entertainers don’t necessarily have to be football fans to strive to get the gig. Mick and Keith prefer the English kind of football to the NFL’s version. Justin Timberlake sponsors a PGA Tour event and fundraiser.

What these acts unquestionably recognize is the massive audience — and spotlight — at their command for about 12 minutes. Maroon 5, which headlined last year’s halftime show, tuned up for it by appearing at the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s induction concert the previous August.

So artists are eager to perform, even though they don’t get paid; the NFL does handle all production costs and expenses for the acts, with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation now involved. Adam Levine certainly isn’t the first singer to campaign for the job he and his band got last February in Atlanta.

“Ever since I saw Diana Ross fly off into the sky at the halftime show, I dreamed of performing at the Super Bowl,” Lopez said when introduced as the co-headliner this year. “And now it’s made even more special not only because it’s the NFL’s 100th season, but also because I am performing with a fellow Latina. I can’t wait to show what us girls can do on the world’s biggest stage.”

At one time, the halftime show seemed to have a local flavor. There was the “Tribute to Mardi Gras” in 1970; “A Salute to the ’60s and Motown” in 1982; “Salute to Hollywood’s 100th Anniversary” in 1987; and “Rockin’ Country Sunday” in 1994 in Atlanta.

Now, the emphasis is on, well, megastars regardless of genre.

“At its core, the Super Bowl draws such a broad audience,” says Mark Quenzel, the league’s senior vice president of programming and productions. “It really is that opportunity for the intersection of sports and entertainment to bring these two together in a way interesting to a lot of fans. That also makes it a challenge. Who is going to do the show that is the most interesting to 200 million people?

“The Super Bowl is the biggest single-day sporting event and it deserves that kind of entertainment.”

So while there are such musical giants as Taylor Swift, Garth Brooks, Kendrick Lamar and Metallica who have not done the show — yet — the NFL hasn’t exactly been missing the mark in the last decade with the likes of Timberlake, Beyonce, Madonna, Lady Gaga,&nbsp;<a href="https://twitter.com/NFL/status/1222323473307127811?s=20" target="_blank">Katy Perry</a>&nbsp;and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

“I love my job,” Bruce Springsteen said in 2019 when he brought the E Street Band to Tampa. “We come out and inspire; that’s part of what we do. If they throw the money at us, then we keep that, too. But we do come out to inspire. And it was just like, ‘Well, this is the year.’”

Perhaps the most difficult part of putting together the concert is not booking a big name. The NFL usually has determined who it will approach months before the regular season begins; league planners have been looking at the 2021 Tampa Super Bowl for several months.

Rather, it’s the logistics of staging the show without slowing down the teams heading into the second half; not damaging the field; keeping the massive audience entertained; and satisfying the entertainers’ needs.

“We work with the artists an amazing amount of time,” Quenzel says. “We want them to do a show they are comfortable with. A show the majority of the 200 million people watching will know the songs they are singing. And we know the level of artists we are talking about, most people have seen them in some shape or form doing a performance. We are not introducing these artists to the audience.

“We want them doing what the audiences have never seen before. These performances are driven by the artists. Our job is to pull it all together — in 12 minutes, by the way.”

The NFL says its cybersecurity department noticed a breach of a league-related social media account, then discovered targeted breaches and additional failed attempts across the league and team accounts. The league told teams to secure their social media accounts to stop further access and alerted the social media platform providers to secure all the accounts.

WACO, Texas (AP) — Juicy Landrum had 22 points to lead five Baylor players in double figures as the No. 2 Lady Bears stretched their Big 12 regular-season winning streak to 48 games. The Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team is ready for the calendar to flip to February.

Since returning from the holiday break, the Blue Dragons have gone only 5-4 and those four losses have been by a combined total of 11 points.

Now with four weeks remaining in the 2020 regular season, the Blue Dragons (16-5) will try to climb back into the conference championship race with first-place Barton coming into the Sports Arena at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

The game will be broadcast live on Blue Dragon flagship station KHUT-FM (102.9) and sister stations KWBW-AM/FM (1450/98.5) at 7:20 p.m. with Glen Grunwald (play-by-play) and Dan Naccarato (color) calling the action. The game will also be streamed live on the Blue Dragon Sports Network at 7:20 p.m.

Entering Wednesday's game, the Blue Dragons find themselves two games out of first place in the Jayhawk West with a 7-5 record. Barton and Colby are tied atop the league standing sat 9-3. Colby owns a win over Barton already this season.

Hutchinson looks to reverse a recent negative trend. The Blue Dragons head second-half leads in all four of their losses in January, including leads with less than 3 minutes to play in the last three.

The Blue Dragons led Colby by four points with 1:27 to play, but the Trojans closed the game on a 10-2 run to hand the Dragons another tough loss.

The Cougars are the second-best scoring team in the KJCCC at 93.0 points per game. They are second in field-goal percentage at 49.7 percent.

The Cougars defeated Seward County on Wednesday 87-86 on Mavrick Gildyard's game-winning shot with 4 seconds remaining in the game at Great Bend. Deandre Bowles had 21 points to lead Barton in the win over Seward County. Martin Vogts came off the bench to score 15 points, while Jaheim Holden had 14 points and Desean Munson had 12. The Cougars were out-shot by the Saints, but forced 23 turnovers to stay close.

Barton dropped a 69-63 decision to Seward County on Saturday in Great Bend. The Cougars were held to 30.6 percent shooting. Richelle Turney scored a team-high 22 points, while Vanessa Oduah had 16 points and D'Shonda Hunt had 14 points for the Cougars.

Turney is the KJCCC's fourth-leading scorer at 15.6 points per game. The Cougars are the fourth-best rebounding team in the Jayhawk at 43.9 rebounds per game.

Wednesday's game will be the 92nd all-time matchup between Hutchinson and Barton in a series that started in 1978. The Blue Dragons trail 54-37 in the series, one of three Jayhawk West teams with an all-time winning record against Hutchinson.

The sophomore from Baldwin City averaged 21.0 points while shooting 76.1 percent for the No. 8 Blue Dragon women in victories over Dodge City and Colby last week.

Against Dodge City, Ogle was strapped with two early fouls and saw limited playing time. She then exploded for 13 of her 15 points in the game in the third quarter alone. She added five rebounds and a couple of steals.

Ogle then scored 22 of her game-high 25 in the first two quarters, going 9 of 10 from the field in a victory over Colby.

Ogle is currently the second-leading scorer in the Jayhawk Conference at 16.3 points per game. She is fourth in the NJCAA in steals at 4.1 steals per game. Ogle has scored in double figures in 12 consecutive games for the No. 8 Blue Dragons this season.
