NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Patrick Mahomes,&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/super-bowl-2025-kelce-e81cb46000e0dfe731cf4d1bd0775635">Travis Kelce</a>&nbsp;and the Kansas City Chiefs are pursuing history and a few of Taylor Swift’s records.

Saquon Barkley, Jalen Hurts and the Philadelphia Eagles stand in their way.

The Chiefs (17-2) will try to become the first team to win three straight Super Bowls when they face the Eagles (17-3) on Sunday in the Superdome.

It’s a rematch from two years ago when Hurts nearly led the Eagles to a championship only to watch Mahomes snatch it away by rallying Kansas City to a 38-35 win on&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/super-bowl-butker-6b308c23c218a10201a3c3bafa2aaca1">Harrison Butker’s</a>&nbsp;27-yard field goal with 8 seconds left.

Mahomes lifted the Chiefs to an overtime win against San Francisco in another Super Bowl rematch last year. Now, they’re poised for a three-peat, a word coach&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/super-bowl-2025-andy-reid-bed873e97e64d43952dcf4382c963578">Andy Reid</a>&nbsp;doesn’t use much.

"I think the only time I’ve heard him say it is to the media whenever y’all ask him about it," Mahomes said. "He’s very locked in on just, ‘How can we be great with our cadence today at practice?’ so that’s just the stuff that Coach Reid focuses on."

Reid won more games than any coach in franchise history during his 14 seasons in Philadelphia but couldn’t win the big one, going 1-4 in NFC championship games and losing a Super Bowl to the Patriots. He went right to Kansas City after the Eagles fired him following the 2012 season and has built a dynasty thanks to Mahomes, Kelce, Chris Jones and others.

“You don’t have time to think about all that,” Reid said of the three-peat. “You’re focused in on the job at hand here and that’s playing against a great Eagles team.”

Jones, the three-time All-Pro defensive tackle, echoed his coach’s viewpoint.

“We don’t talk about no three-peat,” Jones said. “I think that’s what we’re here for. We understand that. We understand there’s one more game until the offseason and we can do whatever we want to do. Our main focus is making sure we’re prepared for the Eagles.”

No matter what the Chiefs say, everyone else is talking about it. No team has done it in the Super Bowl era, though the Green Bay Packers won an NFL championship in 1965 and followed by winning the first two Super Bowls. Kelce even started all the three-peat talk on stage last year when he said the team’s goal was to win three.

“This is gonna be our biggest test yet,” Kelce said. “They got a lot of great players but the biggest thing is they play great together. You could see their communication. You could see the accountability they have, especially in the secondary. It’s not gonna make my job any easier.”

These Eagles are different from the group that fell just short against Kansas City in Arizona two years ago.

They have the NFL’s most dynamic player in the backfield. Barkley rushed for 2,447 yards with seven touchdowns of 60-plus yards in the regular season and playoffs.

“The goal has always been to win it, not just to get here,” Barkley said.

Losing to the Chiefs two years ago only motivated Hurts even more. He’s determined to hoist a Lombardi trophy and even had a photo of him walking off the field with Kansas City’s red and yellow confetti falling around him as the background on his phone.

“It’s had a great driving force,” Hurts said of that loss. “It lit a flame, lit a fire in me, and to have this opportunity again is exactly what you work for.”

Hurts, Barkley, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and a dominant offensive line present a major challenge for Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo.

The Eagles also have the league’s No. 1-ranked defense, featuring eight new starters from 2022 and defensive coordinator Vic Fangio.

All-Pro linebacker Zack Baun and rookie cornerbacks Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean plus the emergence of defensive tackle Jalen Carter and edge rusher Nolan Smith has transformed a defensive unit that fell apart last season.

“We’re fortunate to have Steve Spagnuolo, but I tell you that Vic is one of those guys,” Reid said. “He’s just one of those really creative defensive minds that survived a long time in this league. He’s been time-tested, and, he has the trust of his players.”

If the Chiefs win, Reid and Mahomes will be one step closer to Bill Belichick and Tom Brady. They’re halfway to the six Belichick and Brady won together in New England and Mahomes is still four away from Brady’s seven rings.

“I’m trying to be the greatest Patrick Mahomes that I can be. That’s obviously a goal of anyone’s — to be the greatest at their profession — but in order to do that, you have to be the greatest that you can be every single day,” Mahomes said.

“Whenever I’m done with football, if I leave everything out there — the way that I feel like I have so far — as far as effort and mentality, I’ll be happy with the results.”

A win for Kansas City also would give Kelce his fourth ring, the same number of Grammy Awards his pop star girlfriend has won for best album. Overall, Kelce has 18 playoff wins and Swift has 14 Grammys.

“She’s up there being the superstar that she is and never taking no for an answer and always working her tail off. I better match that energy for sure,” Kelce said.

🏈 Mahomes, Kelce and the Chiefs' quest for a three-peat faces its toughest challenge vs. the Eagles

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — David N'Guessan scored 20 points and Kansas State beat No. 16 Kansas 81-73 on Saturday for its fifth straight win, including three against ranked opponents.

Dug McDaniel added 15 points and Max Jones and Coleman Hawkins each scored 12 as Kansas State (12-11, 6-6 Big 12) beat Kansas for the third straight game in Manhattan, after two overtime victories over the Jayhawks.

Hunter Dickinson scored 21 points, Zeke Mayo added 15 and KJ Adams 13 for Kansas (16-7, 7-5).

Kansas State extended its lead to 55-43 at the 17:20 mark of the second half and maintained a comfortable lead the rest of the way.

Kansas: The Jayhawks need to find some consistency before the NCAA Tournament rolls around. In their last six games, the Jayhawks have followed each win with a loss.

Kansas State: The Wildcats can start thinking about postseason play. If they can continue their present run, they could end up in the tournament field.

Starting point guard Dajuan Harris Jr. picked up two early fouls and went to the bench for the rest of the half after getting whistled for his third with 9:56 remaning before the break. His only stat in the first half was three assists in just over four minutes. He played nearly the entire second half, finishing with four points and six assists.

Kansas State had 23 assists and 10 turnovers and fought off constant defensive pressure in the second half by Kansas.

Both teams are in action Tuesday. Kansas hosts Colorado while Kansas State hosts Arizona.

🏀 K-State extends winning streak to 5 with victory over KU

Kansas Sate will be looking for a new offensive coordinator after Conor Riley has departed to take the offensive line job with the Dallas Cowboys, per ESPN reporter Pete Thamel.

Riley was promoted to the offensive coordinator position prior to the 2024 season after Collin Klein had departed for Texas A&amp;M. Riley had previously been the offensive line coach at K-State for the previous five seasons.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — There were moments not long ago&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/super-bowl-2025-kareem-hunt-4c21a44cbe388958a4b829d553756f8d">when Kareem Hunt wondered whether</a>&nbsp;he’d ever carry a football in an NFL game again.

There were times&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/kansas-city-chiefs-matt-araiza-b18ca0a23318187a86cc137966558d28">when Matt Araiza wondered</a>&nbsp;whether he would ever punt one.

Yet through a combination of need and want, the Chiefs provided both players with an opportunity to continue — if not fully restart — their professional careers. And now, the returns of Hunt and Araiza has reached a championship ending, with both trying to help Kansas City win an unprecedented&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/super-bowl-2025-time-livestream-channel-ba95fc9ec297102cc05097ac3ad008a6">third consecutive Super Bowl title</a>&nbsp;on Sunday.

“It does feel a little bit like redemption, honestly,” Hunt told The Associated Press on Thursday, the final day of a whirlwind week of interviews and media obligations before the game against the Eagles. “Like it’s a blessing, and it’s meant to be.”

Hunt and Araiza’s stories are similar but different, filled with unimaginable highs and uncomfortable lows.

Hunt actually began his career in Kansas City, chosen in the same draft class as Patrick Mahomes, who quickly became one of his best friends. He ran for more than 1,300 yards as a rookie for a franchise only beginning its ascent in the NFL, earning a Pro Bowl nod and finishing second to Alvin Kamara in voting for AP Rookie of the Year.

The following season, with Mahomes the new starter, Hunt was helping the Chiefs barrel toward the playoffs when a video surfaced in November 2018 of him kicking a woman in the hallway of a Cleveland hotel. No charges were filed when the woman stopped cooperating with authorities, but the Chiefs moved swiftly to distance themselves from their star running back.

Hunt eventually signed with the Browns, where he served an eight-game suspension for violating the NFL’s personal-conduct policy. He went on to run for more than 2,200 yards over five years in a backfield rotation for the Browns.

Then this past offseason, Hunt had surgery to repair a sports hernia that hampered him much of last year. The procedure was successful, but it scared many teams away, and Hunt was left sitting on his couch when the season began. It was not until the Chiefs lost Isiah Pacheco to an injury that Hunt picked up the phone and called Kansas City coach Andy Reid.

The two had stayed in touch, even discussing Hunt’s past at Mahomes’ wedding, and Reid was willing to give him a chance.

“Andy, you know, has a big heart, and he sees the best in everybody,” Hunt said. “He knows me as a person. He knows everybody. Like, he’s more of a father figure to me. A role model. Somebody you can look up to. So, I think he loves giving out second chances because he believes in us. And he knows that, you know, we’re capable of handling things.”

In the case of Araiza, who earned the nickname “Punt God” with his booming kicks at San Diego State, the Chiefs were searching for a replacement for Tommy Townsend when they decide to look into the legal problems that had shelved his career.

Araiza had just appeared in a preseason game for Buffalo in 2022 when a lawsuit was filed by a woman alleging he was involved in a gang rape of her at an off-campus party the prior year. Araiza and other players named in the lawsuit claimed that their encounters with her were consensual, and after a month-long investigation, the San Diego County District Attorney’s Office said that December that it&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/buffalo-bills-college-football-sports-san-diego-matt-araiza-76d2ff963ac11c28ed741851f9a710fa">would not file criminal charges</a>&nbsp;against him.

Araiza ultimately filed a defamation suit against the accuser in July 2023. The parties agreed to drop their lawsuits in December with neither side admitting to any wrongdoing and no money changing hands.

“That was a long process there,” Chiefs general manager Brett Veach acknowledged. “We go through the whole process with our entire intel and security team. I think when that came through there was pretty much a green light, and it was an opportunity for him. He probably should have been in the league maybe sooner than what he was.”

Araiza has rarely spoken about the case, preferring instead to move on with a career that was on the ropes. But he did admit in training camp that there were times he wondered whether he should begin pursuing another line of work.

“Honestly, it kept going back and forth in my mind,” he said, “but yeah, there was a lot of moments where I thought it was over.”

Turns out Hunt and Araiza were far from done.

Now, they have an opportunity to win a Super Bowl ring with a franchise that was willing to give them another chance.

“Just make sure that you keep your nose clean, right? That’s the important part,” Reid said, “and go play football. I think people deserve a second chance if they’ve done something to work on the first part of it.”

LeBron James becomes oldest player to score 40 points in NBA history, dropping 42 in Lakers' victory

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Age is more than just a number to LeBron James. It's also a target. The 40-year-old James became the oldest player to score 40 points in an NBA game when he put up a season-high 42 in the Los Angeles Lakers' 120-112 victory over the Golden State Warriors. James passed the record held by Michael Jordan, his idol and the only other NBA player to score 40 after his 40th birthday. Jordan did it for the Washington Wizards just three days after turning 40 in February 2003. James is 38 days removed from his 40th birthday last Dec. 30.

Canelo Alvarez changes course, drops Jake Paul fight to sign big deal with Riyadh Season

Canelo Alvarez has agreed to a four-fight deal with Riyadh Season. The Mexican star has leveraged a widely speculated bout with Jake Paul for a much bigger contract. Turki Alalshikh, the head of Riyadh Season and the General Entertainment Authority of Saudi Arabia, announced the deal on social media. The first fight under Alvarez's new deal would be in May in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Alvarez is then expected to fight Terence Crawford in September in Las Vegas. Alvarez has spent years as the biggest moneymaker in boxing.

Baseball star Shohei Ohtani's ex-interpreter is sentenced to nearly 5 years in sports betting case

SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) — The former interpreter for Japanese baseball star Shohei Ohtani has been sentenced to four years and nine months in prison. Ippei Mizuhara pleaded guilty last year to bank and tax fraud. He was accused of stealing nearly $17 million from the Los Angeles Dodgers player's bank account to cover his gambling bets and debts. Mizuhara was supposed to bridge the gap between Ohtani and his English-speaking teammates and fans. Prosecutors said Mizuhara never bet on baseball, and Ohtani was an unknowing victim of the scheme. The case stemmed from a broader probe of illegal sports bookmaking organizations in Southern California.

Luka Doncic is now more likely to make his Lakers debut on Monday, JJ Redick says

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Luka Doncic is now expected to make his debut with the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night against the Utah Jazz, coach JJ Redick says. Doncic hasn't played since Christmas due to a strained left calf. Redick initially suggested Doncic could play for the Lakers on Saturday against Indiana, but revised his forecast Thursday night before the Lakers hosted the Golden State Warriors. Players were greeted with perfect weather a year after rain turned TPC Scottsdale into a soggy, wild mess. Clark opened with a birdie and adding four straight starting on No. 8 on a day win in which 26 players shot 68 or better. Lee Hodges had two eagles on his back nine to shoot 65. He's tied with Taylor Moore, who eagled the par-5 third to cap a 7-under stretch in seven holes. Top-ranked Scottie Scheffler shot 69 in his second start since puncturing his hand.

NCAA changes transgender policy to limit women's competition to athletes assigned female at birth

The NCAA has changed its participation policy for transgender athletes, limiting competition in women's sports to athletes assigned female at birth. The change came on day after President Donald Trump signed an executive order intended to ban transgender athletes from participating in girls' and women's sports. The NCAA's revised policy permits athletes assigned male at birth to practice with women's teams and receive benefits such as medical care while practicing. The policy is effective immediately and applies to all athletes regardless of previous eligibility reviews.

🥎 Jayhawks fall short in season opening games

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Kansas quarterback Jalon Daniels recently underwent knee surgery and will be limited in spring practice, the school said Thursday.

Daniels has started 33 games for the Jayhawks and will be returning for his sixth season. The school said Daniels’ surgery was minor.

The native of Lawndale, California, has been plagued by injuries. He missed four games with a shoulder injury in 2022 and 10 games with a back injury in 2023.

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Antonio Gates, Jared Allen, Eric Allen and Sterling Sharpe were voted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in the smallest induction class in 20 years following offseason rule changes meant to make it harder to get inducted.

Sharpe got in as a seniors candidate in voting announced Thursday night at the NFL Honors and will join younger brother Shannon as the first siblings ever inducted into the Hall. Two-time Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning fell short and won’t join older brother Peyton in Canton, Ohio, this year.

The induction ceremony will be held Aug. 2.

While the small class is a change from past years when at least seven people got inducted in each of the previous 12 classes, it isn’t unprecedented.

There were only four inductees in the 2005 class and there were 18 other years with three or four inductees since the first class of 17 was enshrined in 1963.

New rules were instituted this year after a push by Hall of Famers to make the Hall more exclusive and it led directly to the smaller class. The modern era candidates were voted from 15 down to seven in the final stage, instead of five in past years.

The 49 voters then got to vote for five of the seven with anyone reaching 80% or finishing in the top three getting into the Hall. In past years, the five finalists all got an up-or-down vote with all five getting in for the past 17 years.

The candidates from the seniors, coach and contributor categories were then all placed in a group with voters picking three. Candidates also needed 80% support with the top finisher automatically getting in even if he fell short.

Gates got elected in his second year of eligibility. He played only basketball in college before turning into one of the NFL’s top tight ends after being drafted by the Chargers.&nbsp;

He became an All-Pro in just his second season in 2004. He was an All-Pro again the next two seasons and went on to have a 16-year career with the Chargers. Gates finished with 955 catches for 11,841 yards and an NFL record for tight ends with 116 touchdown receptions. He ranks seventh all-time in TD catches.

Jared Allen was a four-time All-Pro who finished his career with 136 sacks, including a league-leading 22 in 2011 for Minnesota. He also led the league in sacks with 15 1/2 for Kansas City in 2007 and reached double digits in seven straight seasons. His final game was a Super Bowl loss for Carolina against Denver in the 2015 season.

Eric Allen starred for 14 seasons as a top cornerback in the NFL and never had to move to safety as he aged. Allen’s career spanned from the “Fog Bowl” game in 1988 when he starred for Philadelphia as a rookie to the “Tuck Rule” game in the 2001 season for Oakland in his final game.

Allen finished with 54 interceptions, including eight returned for touchdowns. He was a first-team All-Pro in 1989 and had two other seasons as a second-team selection.

Sharpe had a short but productive career for the Green Bay Packers from 1988-94. His best season came in 1992, when he became the sixth player to win the receiving triple crown, setting an NFL record with 108 catches for 1,461 yards and 13 touchdowns.

He broke his own record with 112 catches in 1993 and led the NFL with 18 touchdown receptions in his final season, 1994, before a neck injury cut his career short.

Sharpe was a three-time All-Pro and had 595 catches for 8,134 yards and 65 TDs. He trailed only Jerry Rice over his seven-year career in receptions and TD catches.

The Sharpe brothers will join three father-son tandems in the Hall: Tim and Wellington Mara; Art Rooney Sr. and Dan Rooney; and Ed and Steve Sabol.

The four other modern-era candidates who reached the final stage but fell short were Willie Anderson, Torry Holt, Luke Kuechly and Adam Vinatieri. Those four automatically advance to the final 15 for next year’s voting.&nbsp;

The other eight finalists who got cut earlier were Manning, Jahri Evans, Steve Smith Sr., Terrell Suggs, Fred Taylor, Reggie Wayne, Darren Woodson and Marshal Yanda.

COFFEYVILLE, Kan. —&nbsp;The Hutchinson Community College women’s basketball teams attempt at erasing a 20-point deficit came up just short in a 64-55 loss at Coffeyville on Wednesday in Nellis Hall.&nbsp;

The Blue Dragons are now 21-2 overall, 15-2 in the Jayhawk Conference.&nbsp;

Coffeyville (18-3, 13-3) got off to a red-hot start and built a 22-9 lead after the first quarter.&nbsp;

The Red Ravens extended the lead to 20 late in the first half, and led 38-23 in the first half.&nbsp;

Hutchinson struggled with foul trouble in the first half, as four players had two fouls each, including leading scorer Hailey Jackson. Jackson played just over four total minutes in the opening half.&nbsp;

The Blue Dragons created some momentum in the second half, but still went to the fourth quarter down 15, 53-38.&nbsp;

Hutchinson kept cutting into the Coffeyville lead, eventually battling back to within five with 2:35 left to play following a Kahlen Norris 3-pointer.&nbsp;

The Blue Dragons would never get any closer, as Coffeyville ended the game on a 4-0 run.&nbsp;

The loss snapped a four game win streak for the Blue Dragons, while the Red Ravens won their league-best eighth game in a row.&nbsp;

HutchCC was led by Landon Forbes with 14, while Jackson had 13 and Norris 10. The Blue Dragons shot just 32% from the floor, and failed to hit 10 3-pointers for the first time in five games, ending the game with six made triples.&nbsp;

Coffeyville was led by Norika Welch with a game-high 19 points.

The Blue Dragons are off on Saturday. Hutchinson will look to regroup on Wednesday at Garden City. Tipoff from Conestoga Arena is at 5:30 p.m.&nbsp;

The Red Ravens will host Garden City on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. in Nellis Hall.&nbsp;

Jackson played just over four total minutes in the opening half.&nbsp;The Blue Dragons created some momentum in the second half, but still went to the fourth quarter down 15, 53-38.&nbsp;Hutchinson kept cutting into the Coffeyville lead, eventually battling back to within five with 2:35 left to play following a Kahlen Norris 3-pointer.&nbsp;The Blue Dragons would never get any closer, as Coffeyville ended the game on a 4-0 run.&nbsp;The loss snapped a four game win streak for the Blue Dragons, while the Red Ravens won their league-best eighth game in a row.&nbsp;HutchCC was led by Landon Forbes with 14, while Jackson had 13 and Norris 10. The Blue Dragons shot just 32% from the floor, and failed to hit 10 3-pointers for the first time in five games, ending the game with six made triples.&nbsp;Coffeyville was led by Norika Welch with a game-high 19 points.The Blue Dragons are off on Saturday. LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP)—Virginia Halas McCaskey, who inherited the&nbsp;<a href="https://www.espn.com/nfl/team/_/name/chi/chicago-bears">Chicago Bears</a>&nbsp;from her father, George Halas, but avoided the spotlight during four-plus decades as principal owner, has died. She was 102.

McCaskey's family announced through the team that she died Thursday. She had owned the Bears since her father's death on Oct. 31, 1983.

"While we are sad, we are comforted knowing Virginia Halas McCaskey lived a long, full, faith-filled life and is now with the love of her life on earth," the family said. "She guided the Bears for four decades and based every business decision on what was best for Bears players, coaches, staff and fans."

Like her father, a co-founder of the NFL, McCaskey kept the team in family hands. She gave operational control and the title of president to her eldest son, Michael McCaskey, who served as chairman until being succeeded by brother George McCaskey in 2011.

During her stewardship, the Bears won a Super Bowl in 1986 and lost a second 21 years later.

McCaskey, the older of Halas' two children, never expected to find herself in charge. Her brother, George "Mugs" Halas Jr., was being groomed to take over the team, but died suddenly of a heart attack in 1979.

McCaskey assumed ownership upon her father's death in 1983, and her late husband, Ed McCaskey, succeeded Halas as chairman. Not long after, she turned over control to Michael, the eldest of her 11 children.

"I think it's important that all of our family remembers that we really haven't done anything to earn this," McCaskey said in a rare interview in 2006. "We're just the recipients of a tremendous legacy. I use the word 'custodian,' and we want to pass it on the best way we can. ... We've been working on that for a long time."

McCaskey's official title was secretary to the board of directors. Despite her generally hands-off approach and low public profile, she occasionally exercised ultimate authority on team decisions as matriarch of the family.

One of those involved a 1987 lawsuit brought by the children of "Mugs" Halas, which was resolved by a stock buyout of their shares. A more recent reminder came in December 2014, when George McCaskey announced the firings of coach Marc Trestman and general manager Phil Emery at a news conference, and was asked to describe his mother's role in the process.

He paused, struggling to describe her unhappiness with the just-ended 5-11 season, and the team's generally fading fortunes.

"She's pissed off," George McCaskey said. "I can't think of a 91-year-old woman that that description would apply, but in this case, I can't think of a more accurate description.

"Virginia McCaskey has been on this earth for eight of the Bears' nine championships, and she wants more," he added a moment later. "She feels that it's been too long since the last (Super Bowl win), and that dissatisfaction is shared by her children, her grandchildren and her great-grandchildren. She's fed up with mediocrity. She feels that she and Bears fans everywhere deserve better."

Virginia McCaskey came by her fandom honestly. According to family members, she often wouldn't serve dessert on Sundays when the Bears lost. In that same 2006 interview, she recalled attending the first playoff game in league history, when she was 9.

The Bears and Portsmouth Spartans finished the 1932 season in the first tie for first place, so the league added a game to determine a champion. Because of snow, the game was moved indoors to the old Chicago Stadium, the Bears won 9-0 playing on an 80-yard field that came right to the walls.

"I remember I didn't save my ticket stub, but one of my cousins had saved his," McCaskey said. "We sat in the second balcony and the ticket price was $1.25.

"I took it to one of the Super Bowls to show (former Commissioner) Pete Rozelle and then I don't know what happened to it afterward," she added. "But that's OK."

Her tenure as the Bears' owner included the establishment of the Bears Care program in 2005. The Bears said that Bears Care has issued grants totaling more than $31.5 million to 225 qualifying agencies to improve the quality of life for people in the Chicago area, especially disadvantaged children and their families. Bears Care also supported health awareness programs focusing on breast and ovarian cancer.

McCaskey had 11 children, eight sons and three daughters. She is survived by her sons Patrick (Gretchen), Edward Jr. (Kathy), George (Barbara), Richard, Brian (Barbara) and Joseph, and daughters Ellen (Barney) Tonquest, Mary and Anne (Mike) Catron. She is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 40 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

The 2024 NJCAA national champion Hutchinson Community College football team will send 24 players to four-year programs after National Signing Day on Wednesday.
The 2024 Blue Dragons produced six Power 4 Conference players, 13 other FBS players, two FCS players and three NCAA Division II players.
The total of 24 will likely grow as a handful of 2024 Blue Dragons have yet to make their decision where to attend a four-year program.
<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2024-25/bios/jordan_jr._waymond_h58l">Waymond Jordan Jr.</a>, the 2024 NJCAA and KJCCC Offensive Player of the Year, chose the University of Southern California as the next stop in his career. Jordan rushed for an NJCAA-best 1,613 yards on 217 carries with a nation-leading 20 touchdowns this past season.
All-American offensive lineman&nbsp;<a href="https://www.bluedragonsports.com/sports/fball/2024-25/bios/craig_bubba_u1jf">Bubba Craig</a>&nbsp;chose to play for the Arkansas Razorbacks, marking the third-straight season a Blue Dragon player signed with the Razorbacks.

The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the agreement was subject to a successful physical. Alonso gets a $10 million signing bonus and gets salaries of $20 million this year and $24 million in 2026. He can opt out after the 2025 season to become a free agent again. New York also offered a $71 million, three-year deal with salaries of $27 million in 2025 and $22 million in each of the following two seasons, with the ability to opt out after each of the first two years, the person said.

Trump signs executive order intended to bar transgender athletes from girls' and women's sports

President Donald Trump has signed an executive order designed to prevent transgender athletes from participating in girls' or women's sports. The order gives federal agencies wide latitude to ensure entities that receive federal funding abide by Title IX in alignment with the Trump administration's view, which interprets "sex" as the gender someone was assigned at birth. It is the latest aggressive shift by the Republican president's second administration in how the government views transgender people and their rights. Trump has already ordered the government to define sex as only male or female.

Trump administration plans to pressure the IOC to come up with a uniform transgender athlete ban

President Donald Trump is ready to take his fight against transgender athletes to the International Olympic Committee. Trump wants the IOC to "change everything having to do with the Olympics and having to do with this absolutely ridiculous subject" ahead of the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles. Trump made the remarks while signing an executive order designed to keep men out of women's sports. The order empowers both the office of the Secretary of State and the Department of Homeland Security to take steps to attempt to prevent international transgender female athletes from competing in the United States.

Lakers land center Mark Williams in trade with Hornets for Knecht and Reddish, AP source says

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The Los Angeles Lakers are acquiring center Mark Williams from the Charlotte Hornets in a trade for rookie Dalton Knecht, Cam Reddish and two draft picks, a person with knowledge of the deal tells The Associated Press. The person spoke on condition of anonymity Wednesday night because the latest trade by the busy Lakers hasn't been finalized. The Hornets are also getting the Lakers' first-round pick in 2031 and a draft pick swap in 2030 in exchange for Williams, one of the NBA's most compelling young centers.

Baseball star Ohtani's ex-interpreter to appear in court for sentencing in betting case

LOS ANGELES (AP) — The former interpreter for baseball star Shohei Ohtani is expected to be sentenced for bank and tax fraud. He stole nearly $17 million from the Japanese athlete's bank account. Ippei Mizuhara is scheduled to appear Thursday in federal court in Santa Ana, California. Mizuhara pleaded guilty last year to bank and tax fraud. He stole the money to cover his growing gambling bets and debts with an illegal bookmaker as well as other expenses. Prosecutors are asking for a sentence of four years and nine months. His lawyer is asking for a sentence of one and a half years.

Deion Sanders says he "couldn't coach pro ball" in a recent episode of his television series

DENVER (AP) — Colorado coach Deion Sanders said in a segment of his new television series that he "couldn't coach pro ball." In his show, "We Got Time Today" that streams on Tubi, Sanders chatted with former Dallas Cowboys teammate and fellow Hall of Famer Troy Aikman about an array of topics. They reminisced about their Super Bowl experience and touched on Sanders' chat with Cowboys owner Jerry Jones concerning the Dallas head coaching vacancy. The team ended up hiring Brian Schottenheimer. Sanders pointed out the differences at practices from their time to now.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scores 50 points as NBA-leading Thunder rout Suns 140-109

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) — Shai Gilgeous-Alexander scored 50 points and the NBA-leading Oklahoma City Thunder routed the Phoenix Suns 140-109 on Wednesday night to improve to 40-9. Gilgeous-Alexander became the ninth player in NBA history to score at least 50 points three times in a seven-game span. He had a career-high 54 against Utah on Jan. 29 and 52 at Golden State a week ago. Phoenix's Kevin Durant sat out with a sprained left ankle. The 36-year-old All-Star forward remains 26 points short of 30,000 for his career. Oklahoma City's fans still got a show. Several times, they serenaded Gilgeous-Alexander with the "M-V-P! Fox enjoys successful debut with Spurs as Wembanyama's point guard in win over Hawks

ATLANTA (AP) — De'Aaron Fox had a quick description of his first game as the point guard for 7-foot-3 Victor Wembanyama. Fox said the big San Antonio center is "different" and "special." It was a winning combination in Fox's debut with the Spurs. Fox scored 24 points and matched his season high with 13 assists and Wembanyama's go-ahead free throw with 2.4 seconds remaining gave the Spurs a 126-125 victory over the Atlanta Hawks. Fox was acquired by San Antonio from Sacramento in a three-team trade Sunday. Fox fit in quickly with his new team.

Wizards trading Valanciunas to the Kings for Cissoko and 2 2nd-round draft picks

The Washington Wizards have agreed to trade center Jonas Valanciunas to the Sacramento Kings for Sidy Cissoko and second-round draft picks in 2028 and 2029. The Wizards announced the trade Wednesday night. The Kings just acquired the 6-foot-6 Cissoko from San Antonio in the three-team deal that sent De'Aaron Fox to the Spurs and Zach LaVine from Chicago to Sacramento. The 32-year-old Valanciunas is averaging 11.5 points and 8.2 rebounds this season despite playing a career-low 20.1 minutes per game.
