SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Ezra Ausar had 21 points and Lawson Lovering posted a double-double to help Utah hold on for a 74-69 victory over Kansas State on Monday night.

Ausar made 7 of 14 shots and all seven of his free throws, adding eight rebounds for the Utes (15-11, 7-8 Big 12 Conference). Lovering totaled 15 points and 10 rebounds for his first double-double this season. Gabe Madsen added 13 points.

Brendan Hausen scored 17 to lead the Wildcats (13-13, 7-8), who have lost two straight following a six-game win streak. Max Jones and Dug McDaniel both scored 13 with McDaniel adding six assists.

Lovering had nine points for Utah and Jones scored 10 for Kansas State in a first half that ended in a 32-32 tie.

Utah scored the first seven points of the second half to grab the lead. A Lovering dunk upped the Utes' advantage to 46-37 with 14:36 left to play. Madsen hit a 3-pointer to give Utah a 57-50 lead with 5:22 left, but Hausen hit a 3-pointer and two free throws as the Wildcats scored the next seven points to tie it with 3:25 remaining.

It was 59-all when Miro Little scored in the paint for Utah and Madsen followed with a 3-pointer. Jones had a layup with 15 seconds left to get the Wildcats within two, but the Utes made 3 of 4 foul shots in the final 12 seconds to wrap up the win.

Utah outrebounded K-State 51-28. The Utes had 21 rebounds at the offensive end, leading to 14 second-chance points.

Utah travels to play UCF on Sunday. Kansas State will host Arizona State on Sunday.

LAWRENCE, Kan. &mdash;&nbsp;Kansas men&apos;s basketball will retire Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Arthur &quot;Dutch&quot; Lonborg&apos;s jersey No. 7 at the Feb. 22 home game against Oklahoma State, Kansas Athletics announced today. &nbsp; Lonborg was a three-sport letterwinner at Kansas in football, basketball and baseball. The Gardner, Illinois, native was a three-time all-conference performer in football (1917-19), twice named all-conference in basketball and was a Helms Foundation All-America First Team selection in basketball in 1919. Lonborg played basketball for Phog Allen while at KU. &nbsp; After graduating from the KU law school, Lonborg coached at McPherson College and Washburn before beginning a 23-year career as coach at Northwestern. At Northwestern, he was instrumental in organizing the first NCAA basketball tournament in 1939. &nbsp; Lonborg returned to KU in 1950 as director of athletics, a position he held for 14 years. During his tenure, the Jayhawks won 38 conference titles and four NCAA crowns, including the 1952 basketball title. Under Lonborg&apos;s guidance, Allen Fieldhouse was built, and Quigley Field (now Hoglund Ballpark) and Memorial Stadium expansion projects were completed. &nbsp; From 1947 to 1960, Lonborg was the chairman of the men&apos;s basketball NCAA Tournament Committee as the tournament grew from an eight-team to a 25-team format. Lonborg also served as president of the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) in 1935 and managed the U.S. Olympic basketball team in 1960 that won the gold medal in Rome. Lonborg was enshrined into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1973 as a coach. He died on Jan. 31, 1985, in Horton, Kansas, at the age of 86.</div>

It was a matchup of the best offense and the best defense in the Big 12 with Kansas State scoring 81.3 points per game and West Virginia allowing just 53.5 ppg.

West Virginia led 57-49 before holding Kansas State to 1-of-10 shooting over the next six minutes to pull away. The Mountaineers made seven straight shots to extend their lead to 70-51.

🏀 No. 17 West Virginia women beat No. 12 K-State

Notre Dame is the new No. 1 in The Associated Press&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-womens-college-basketball-poll">Top 25 women’s basketball poll</a>, ascending to the top spot Monday for the first time since 2019.

The Fighting Irish replaced UCLA, which&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/ucla-loses-26ffd59668faa75503a0c96f6868a77c">lost its first game</a>&nbsp;of the season last week, falling to rival USC, 71-60. Notre Dame was last No. 1 on Jan. 21, 2019.

“It’s definitely an honor to be the nation’s top team, but we are just focused on getting better every day,“ Notre Dame coach Niele Ivey said.

The Irish, who received 16 first-place votes from a 30-member national media panel, faced No. 11 Duke on Monday night.

Texas moved up to second for its best ranking since 2017. The Longhorns, who garnered eight first-place ballots, became the first team to beat three straight top 10 teams since 2004-05, according to ESPN, topping South Carolina, Kentucky and&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/lsu-texas-basketball-score-3a0ddc4a74c546f649e8647612735314">LSU</a>.

The Bruins had been No. 1 for 12 straight weeks after beating South Carolina in late November. UCLA fell to third and received the other six first-place votes.

USC moved up to fourth and UConn was fifth after routing then-No. 4 South Carolina&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/uconn-south-carolina-score-bc3d1da00964316965f84d897343997b">87-58</a>&nbsp;on Sunday. The Gamecocks, who saw their 71-game home winning streak end, fell to sixth. LSU and Ohio State were next.

North Carolina climbed up three spots to ninth for its highest ranking in three seasons after beating N.C. State&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/nc-state-unc-womens-basketball-score-f85caaba12f7f663d87bde399473de5d">66-65</a>&nbsp;on Sunday. TCU was 10th.

Illinois re-entered the poll this week at No. 25 after beating Penn State and Nebraska. The Illini spent the first few weeks of the season ranked. Florida State fell out after losing to Louisville and edging Miami.

It was a rough week for Kentucky. One week after earning its best ranking in a decade, Kentucky fell six spots to 14th. The Wildcats lost games to Ole Miss and Texas before beating Georgia.

The Southeastern Conference still reigns with seven ranked teams. The Big Ten has six while the ACC and Big 12 each have five. The Big East has two.

With a month left to the start of the NCAA Tournament, the selection committee revealed the&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/ncaa-reveal-march-madness-a5e478ef0d3dd261acc23259ce782c07">top 16 teams</a>&nbsp;to that point Sunday. UCLA, South Carolina, Texas and Notre Dame were the one seeds. The reveal came before South Carolina’s loss.

No. 1 Notre Dame at No. 13 North Carolina State, Sunday. The Irish currently have a two-game lead in the ACC race over the Wolfpack. Five teams are within two games of second place.

No. 17 West Virginia at No. 10 TCU, Sunday. Two of the top teams in the Big 12 square off as the Horned Frogs hope to remain at top of the conference standings.

The Tigers (23-2) received 59 of 60 first-place votes in Monday’s poll, reclaiming nearly all the support lost&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/florida-auburn-t25-score-4d46ac00c735b03b32e810b473b88d56">when they fell at home to Florida on Feb. 8</a>. Auburn had been the unanimous No. 1 for three straight weeks before that loss, but remained at the top last week despite seeing nearly half of those first-place votes go primarily to Alabama, with a few to Florida and Tennessee.

But the Tigers won Saturday in a 1-vs.-2 road matchup against the rival Crimson Tide, hours after the committee that will choose the 68-team field for the NCAA Tournament&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/ncaa-tournament-preliminary-seeds-e9d1ee337bf3af70cff9c81856d878a4">put Auburn as its No. 1 overall seed in its preliminary rankings</a>.

The two teams to beat the Tigers sit right behind them. Florida and Duke were tied for third last week, and the Gators inched past the Blue Devils to break that tie and take the No. 2 spot while claiming the remaining first-place vote.

Alabama fell to No. 4, followed by Houston, Tennessee, Texas A&amp;M — with its highest ranking since December 2017 — Iowa State, Texas Tech and St. John’s to round out the top 10.

Of that group, the Red Raiders represented the only change from last week’s set of teams, climbing three spots to replace Purdue for their first top-10 appearance in three years. Grant McCasland’s squad, which has lost just twice since the start of 2025, was unranked until cracking the poll at No. 22 on Jan. 27.

Michigan had the week’s biggest jump among ranked teams, climbing eight spots to No. 12 after&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/michigan-purdue-score-8f94a3211b6c11b381ff2b0b9c9f720e">beating Purdue last week</a>&nbsp;and pushing its win streak to six games.

No. 15 Missouri jumped six spots, while No. 11 Wisconsin, No. 18 Clemson and No. 20 Maryland each rose five spots.

In all, 12 teams moved up from their position last week.

Memphis took the biggest tumble of the week, falling eight spots to No. 22 after its&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/memphis-wichita-state-score-c19ec37b8498d55f615419d513de2e5f">overtime loss at Wichita State</a>&nbsp;ended an eight-game winning streak.

No. 13 Purdue, No. 19 Arizona and No. 23 Kansas — the preseason No. 1-ranked team — all fell six spots, while No. 24 Mississippi tumbled five.

No. 25 Louisville was the week’s lone new addition, returning to the poll for the second time after a two-week stint in January. First-year coach Pat Kelsey has guided the program to its first 20-win season since 2019-20, with the Cardinals having lost just once since mid-December.

Creighton (No. 24) fell out of the rankings for the second time this season. The Bluejays were ranked for the first four weeks, then returned last week for what turned out to be a one-week stay.

The Southeastern Conference had a national-best nine teams, including three of the top four and five of the top 10. The Big 12 and Big Ten each had five teams, though the Big 12 had three in the top 10 while the highest-ranked Big Ten team checked in at 11th.

The Atlantic Coast Conference had three, followed by the Big East with two and the American Athletic Conference with one.

In a pair of wins last week, Washington averaged 17.5 points and 13.5 rebounds. He started the week with a 17-point, 12-rebound double-double vs. UTSA and closed with another monster double-double of 18 points and 15 rebounds in a win over No. 14 Memphis. He has scored 10 or more points in 14 consecutive games and his seven double-doubles this season are second on the team. Washington is the first Shocker to earn American Player of the Week honors since Dexter Dennis on March 8, 2021. Winners of four in a row, Wichita State travels to Boca Raton for a matchup between the two hottest teams in the league Thursday night at 8 p.m. CT on ESPN2. Florida Atlantic has won its last five games entering the matchup.</div>

The sophomore from Phillipsburg, Kansas, came off the bench in both games to register 19.0 points on a .571 field goal percentage including a .588 three-point percentage, 8.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, 2.5 steals and 1.0 blocks. At Cincinnati on Wednesday, Sides carded her first career double-double with 17 points including a 4-of-10 effort from distance, a career-high 12 rebounds, four assists and a steal in 27 minutes of action. Against UCF on Saturday, Sides registered her second 20-point game of the season with 21 points on 7-of-8 shooting, including 6-of-7 from 3-point range, six assists, four rebounds, tied her career-high with four steals and set a career-high with two blocks in 28 minutes off the bench. For the season, the 2025 Big 12 Sixth Player of the Year candidate is averaging a career-high 10.2 points on a career-best .484 field goal percentage and a career-best .469 effort from long range. Her three-point percentage ranks second in school history for a season. SURPRISE, Ariz.—The Kansas City Royals this morning announced that Executive Vice President and General Manager&nbsp;J.J. Picollo&nbsp;has agreed to a contract extension, which will run through the 2030 season with a club option for 2031. Additionally, the Royals have exercised Manager&nbsp;Matt Quatraro’s&nbsp;club option for the 2026 season.

“J.J. is one of the top executives in baseball, and I am proud that he’s leading our pursuit of a championship,” said Royals Chairman and CEO&nbsp;John Sherman. “His ability to lead and connect with people, his intellectual curiosity, and his innovative methods of combining the best of traditional scouting and player development with advanced sciences and technologies are driving us toward that ultimate goal.”

Picollo is in his 19th full season with the Royals and his third full season in his current position. He was named the seventh General Manager in franchise history on Sept. 12, 2021&nbsp;and was elevated to his current role a year later. The Royals have hired more than 30 new people in Baseball Operations since he was named Executive Vice President of Baseball Operations in September 2022.

The Royals spent $110M on free agents during the 2023-24 offseason, which was the most among American League teams. That number does not include the extension of&nbsp;Bobby Witt Jr., who in February 2024 signed the biggest contract in franchise history, a 14-year agreement that includes 11 years guaranteed.

Those offseason efforts led the Royals to an 86-76 record in 2024, resulting in a postseason berth and a 30-win improvement from the previous season. They were just the sixth team in the 162-game Era (since 1961) to have a 30-win improvement from one season to the next (excluding shortened seasons). Kansas City’s turnaround led to Picollo finishing as the runner-up in the 2024 Executive of the Year voting.

Since Picollo’s&nbsp;arrival in 2006, the Royals have had 36 different players, coaches or trainers be selected to the All-Star Game, combining for a total of 59 All-Star selections. Of the 21 All-Star players among that group, 11 were originally drafted or signed by the Royals. During the same time, the Royals have produced nine different players who have earned a&nbsp;Rawlings&nbsp;Gold Glove Award, and that group has combined for 23 Gold Gloves. During Picollo’s&nbsp;tenure, the Royals have also had five different players combine for nine Louisville Slugger Silver Slugger Awards.

"Luke brings an extensive amount of coaching experience and recruiting energy to our tight end room, which of course has been a big piece to our recent offensive success," Klieman said. "I have known Luke for quite a while and even visited with him during previous position openings, and we are thrilled to have him and his family in our program." Wells, a 2002 graduate of Oklahoma who both played and coached for the Sooners, most recently coached in college at Tulsa in 2022, while he has also spent time coaching receivers and tight ends at Iowa State and Texas Tech during his career. "I am grateful for the opportunity from Coach Klieman to help this staff and be a part of the winning culture at K-State," Wells said. "I can't wait to get to work with our talented group of tight ends." While at Texas Tech, Wells all but built the tight end position from scratch while helping three players from his position room earn All-Big 12 accolades in tight end Donta Thompson and inside receiver Dalton Rigdon in 2019 as well as inside receiver KeSean Carter in 2020. Prior to arriving at Texas Tech, Wells served as Utah State's co-offensive coordinator and recruiting coordinator from 2013 to 2016, working with the tight ends the first three years and then the quarterbacks in 2016. He shifted back to overseeing Utah State's tight ends and inside receivers his final two years in Logan where the Aggies boasted one of the nation's top offenses. It was the first time he worked under his brother, Matt, K-State's current offensive coordinator who was the head coach at both Utah State and Texas Tech. Wells mentored one of the top tight ends in Utah State history in Wyatt Houston, who tallied 86 receptions for 933 yards and nine touchdowns over the 2013 through 2016 seasons, as all three of his marks ranked second in school history among tight ends. Houston earned All-Mountain West Honorable Mention accolades as a senior in 2016. Prior to Houston, fellow tight end D.J. Tialavea thrived under Wells' direction before signing a rookie free agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2014. Tialavea went on to join the Falcons' organization a year later and was a member of the franchise when Atlanta played in Super Bowl LI. Another Wells pupil, Jefferson Court, joined the professional ranks in 2015 as he was the 37th player selected in the CFL Draft by the Ottawa Redblacks. Offense was a prevalent theme of Utah State's success during Wells' final two seasons as the Aggies averaged 47.5 points per game in 2018, which trailed only Oklahoma for the top spot in the country. The Aggies racked up 618 points on the season, snapping the Mountain West and Utah State single-season records in the process. Utah State scored at least 40 points in 13 different games over his final two seasons, including 10 times with 50 or more points. The Aggies reached the 50-point mark a school-record seven times in 2018 alone en route to breaking almost every offensive record in Utah State history. In Wells' first season, the Aggies set school records for completions (297), total plays (1,073), touchdown passes (30) and first downs (310). Utah State scored 445 points that season and attempted 481 passes, which both ranked second in school history. Utah State's tight ends also set the single-season school record for touchdown receptions with nine, topping the previous record from 1993. Prior to his time at Utah State, Wells was the wide receivers and tight ends coach at Iowa State from 2009 through 2012, helping the Cyclones advance to three bowl games in four years. Wells arrived in Ames following six seasons at Louisiana-Monroe where he began as an offensive graduate assistant in 2003 before being promoted to tight ends coach for the 2004 through 2006 seasons and then tutoring the Warhawks' wide receivers in 2007 and 2008. He coached first team all-conference tight end Joey Trappey in 2005 and second-team honoree Zeek Zacharie in 2006 before producing an honorable mention wide receiver in Anthony McCall a year later. Wells also served as ULM's recruiting coordinator over his final two seasons, helping Monroe sign its highest-rated class in school history at that time. Wells earned his first full-time coaching position managing the wide receivers at Denton (Texas) High School in 2002. He began his collegiate coaching career as a student assistant at Oklahoma from 1999 through 2001, helping the Sooners claim the 2000 Big 12 Championship and BCS National Championship. TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — New York Yankees slugger Giancarlo Stanton is uncertain for opening day because of chronic tendinitis in both elbows. Yankees manager Aaron Boone made the announcement as position players reported ahead of the first full-squad workout Monday. Asked whether it could impact Stanton's availability for the March 27 opener against Milwaukee, Boone responded: "Tough to say." Nolan Arenado reports to camp after the Cardinals tried to trade him in the offseason

Blakes, a 5-foot-8 guard who is averaging 21.8 points, shot 15 for 28 from the field with two 3-pointers and made 23 of 24 free throws. She broke the record set by Elena Delle Donne, who scored 54 as a redshirt freshman at Delaware in a 2010 loss to James Madison. Blakes scored her 55th point from the foul line with 17 seconds left in OT. She then missed her next free throw, the only miss in 24 attempts. She scored 11 of her points in overtime.

Miner (1-0) did not allow a hit for the first four innings and exited after 5.0 frames, allowing two runs while striking out three and walking two. The state wrestling championships will be held Feb. 28-March 1 at four different sites. Class 6A will be held in Overland Park, class 5A in Park City, class 4A in Salina and classes 3-1A will be in Hays.

TOPEKA &ndash; Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2024-25/bios/mangelson_farrin_7y5g">Farrin Mangelson</a>&nbsp;broke the Hutchinson Community College indoor men's track and field 3,000-meter school record on Saturday to lead the Blue Dragons on Saturday at the Ichabod Invitational at the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility.
Mangelson placed third on Saturday with a Blue Dragon and national qualifying time of 8:19.75. Right behind Mangelson was teammate&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2024-25/bios/kogo_cornelius_hf87">Cornelius Kogo</a>, who posted the second-fastest 3,000-meter time in Blue Dragon history with a ninth-place time of 8:26.14.
Two weeks ago on the same track, Mangelson broke the Blue Dragon 5,000-meter record.
Both Mangelson and Kogo surpassed the 2021 record of Teagan Flanagan, whose time of 8:31.79 was set at the 2021 NJCAA Indoor Championships.
Mangelson and Kogo both qualify for the NJCAA Indoor Championships in March in Lubbock, Texas. The Blue Dragons have 12 individual qualifiers and one relay heading into the Region 6 Championships in March at Lubbock, Texas.
The Dragons had a third qualifier on Saturday with&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2024-25/bios/kiprotich_titus_hgfs">Titus Kiprotich</a>&nbsp;in the 800 meters. Kiprotich placed third on Saturday with a time of 4:10.63, which ranks No. 2 in Blue Dragon history.
Mangelson, Kogo and Kiprotich are all two-time individual national qualifiers in the 2025 indoor season.
Freshman sprinter&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/mtrack/2024-25/bios/makalo_kebba_vl76">Kebba Makalo</a>&nbsp;was the Ichabod Invitational runner-up in the 60 meters with a time of 6.77 seconds, which is the fifth-fastest time in Blue Dragon indoor history. He qualified for the finals with a time of 6.84 seconds on Friday.

👟 Mangelson breaks 2nd record of indoor season for HutchCC men

TOPEKA &ndash; Sophomore&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wtrack/2024-25/bios/picolet_jordan_z3sx">Jordyn Picolet</a>&nbsp;earned a second national qualification and did so with a school-record performance to lead the Hutchinson Community College women's track and field team at the Ichabod Invitational on Saturday at the Washburn Indoor Athletic Facility.
Picolet beat the 2020 record of Louise Cocking by six second posting an NJCAA Indoor national championship-qualifying time of 10:19.29 to finish 11th in the Ichabod Invitational field.
Picolet earned her second national qualifying mark, also qualifying in the 5,000 meters two weeks ago at the Washburn Open. The Blue Dragon women now have six qualifiers heading into next week's Region 6 Championships next Saturday and Sunday in Pittsburg.
There were four other Blue Dragon Top 10 performances on Saturday.
Sophomores&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wtrack/2024-25/bios/grantham_abigail_40ez">Abigail Grantham</a>&nbsp;and Laura Avila moved up the Blue Dragon record charts in the mile run. Grantham posted the fourth-fastest Blue Dragon indoor mile run of 5:16.28, shaving 20 seconds off her previous RP. Grantham placed 19th on Saturday. Avila trimmed 17 seconds off her previous PR in the Mile with a time of 5:23.57, the sixth-fastest mark in Blue Dragon history. Avila placed 33rd on Saturday.
Grantham also posted the seventh-fastest 800-meter time in Blue Dragon history with a 19th-place time of 2:25.97.
Thrower Deisheline Mayer Scott moved up to sixth on the Blue Dragon weight throw chart with a throw of 48 feet, 3 1/2 inches in the weight throw, placing 15th.
One note to a Friday performance at the Ichabod Invitational, thrower&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/wtrack/2024-25/bios/montaque_janiel_88cd">Janiel Montaque</a>'s shot put top distance of 43-5 1/4 (13.24) meters ranked ninth in the NJCAA and tied for seventh in Blue Dragon history.

MIDWEST CITY, Oklahoma &ndash; The No. 23-ranked Hutchinson Community College baseball team earned its second-straight 5-0 start to a season and completed a three-game series sweep of the Rose State Raiders on Saturday.
Led by&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/stokes_taber_u8n0">Taber Stokes</a>' two hits and&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/mazza_antony_9347">Anthony Mazza</a>'s two RBIs, the Blue Dragons defeated the Raiders 6-3 on Saturday morning to sweep the Raiders in a series for the second time in the last five seasons. Hutchinson won Games 1 and 2 on Friday with victories of 6-1 and 18-4 on Friday.
The Blue Dragons start a season 5-0 for the 11th time in program history. Hutchinson is scheduled to play Highland on Friday and Des Moines Area on Sunday at Hobart-Detter Field.
For the series, the Blue Dragons outscored Rose State 28-8 and out-hit the Raiders 36-20. The Dragons racked up a combined 30 strikeouts in the three-game series.
On Saturday, the Blue Dragons trailed 1-0 after three innings and rallied for six runs over their next four innings to take control.
The Dragons tied and took the lead in the fourth inning.&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/bsb/2024-25/bios/mustow_adam_sf8t">A.J. Bijan Cortes hit a 3 to give the Shockers a 78-77 lead with 1:10 remaining in OT. Wichita State never relinquished the lead from that point.

Wichita State (15-10, 5-7 AAC) won its fourth-straight game and first over a ranked opponent in the regular season since 2021. The Shockers had five players in double figures. Corey Washington had a double-double with 18 points and 15 rebounds.

The Tigers (21-5, 11-2) saw their eight-game winning-streak end. Tyrese Hunter led the Tigers with 24 points. Moussa Cisse had a double-double for Memphis with 12 points and 14 rebounds.

Wichita State took a 32-28 lead into halftime highlighted by an 11-3 run in the final 5:28 of the opening 20 minutes.

Ronnie DeGray III hit a pair of free throws to tie the game at 71-71 with 18 seconds left for the Shockers to force overtime. The Tigers scored the first four points in OT before the Shockers took over.

Wichita State: The Shockers limited Memphis’ leading scorer PJ Haggerty to just two points in the first half and 14 in total. Wichita State controlled the rebound battle outrebounding the Tigers 54-45.

Memphis: The Tigers struggled shooting going 27-for-75 from the floor.

Zeke Mayo had to leave the game briefly with a lower leg injury but led Kansas (17-8, 8-6) with 15 points while Dajuan Harris Jr. had 14 points and Hunter Dickinson added 12.

Ezra Ausar scored 12 points and Jake Wahlin had 10 points and 12 rebounds to help Utah get its first Quad 1 win in 10 tries.

Dallin Hall scored 16 points and Fousseyni Traore 11 for BYU (17-8, 8-6 Big 12). Keba Keita added nine points, 11 rebounds and five blocks.

Egor Demin threw down a dunk that gave BYU the lead for good less than five minutes into the game and sparked a 17-4 run that made it 26-12 about four minutes later. The Cougars led by at least eight point the rest of the way.

CJ Jones made layup for the Wildcats with 7:43 left in the first and half and neither team scored again until Hall’s layup with 2:56 to go until halftime that gave BYU a 14-point lead.

Kansas State, which made four of its first 16 shots and at one point missed 10 consecutive field-goal attempts, shot 27% (9 of 33) in the first half.
