NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Tom Brady’s best game in three tries against New Orleans kept the Buccaneers moving on in the NFL playoffs, and has Saints quarterback Drew Brees headed home — perhaps for good.

Brady and the Bucs’ offense turned three of four Saints turnovers into touchdowns and Tampa Bay beat New Orleans 30-20 in the divisional round of the playoffs Sunday night.

Two of those touchdowns came on short passes to Mike Evans and Leonard Fournette. And after linebacker Devin White snagged the second of thee interceptions thrown by Brees, Brady drove the Bucs to the 1, from where he scored himself with 4:57 left to virtually ensure his 14th trip to a conference championship game — his first in the NFC.

That game will take place in Green Bay next week, where the 43-year-old Brady will try to advance to his 10th Super Bowl in a showdown with Packers All-Pro QB Aaron Rodgers.

“We worked hard to get to this point. Two road playoff wins is pretty sweet,” Brady said. “We’ve got to go beat a great football team we know pretty well. Aaron’s playing incredible.”

Meanwhile, the Brees era in New Orleans could be over after 15 seasons.

While just 3,750 tickets were distributed in the 73,000-seat Superdome to comply with local COVID-19 restrictions, the fans made themselves heard with an eruption of cheers when the 42-year-old Brees first took the field for New Orleans (13-5), seemingly sensing this could be their last chance to see him play at home.

Brees, under contract for one more year, declined to say whether he’s retiring. After he’d changed in the locker room, he walked back onto the field and watched his four children play, at one point sharing a long embrace with his wife, Brittany.

“I appreciate all that this game has given to me,” Brees said. “There are obviously so many incredible memories.”

If it was his last game, it won’t be one he’ll want to remember. The NFL’s all-time leader in completions and yards passing was 19 of 34 for 134 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions.

“A couple of them I probably shouldn’t have thrown and maybe forced it,” Brees said. “That’s what this game came down to is those turnovers because all of those gave them the ball deep in our territory, and you can’t do that with (Tampa Bay’s) offense. They’re too good and they’re going to capitalize on that, which they did.”

Brady finished 18 of 33 for 199 yards in what often resembled more of a defensive struggle. Unlike his previous two meetings with the Saints — both losses — he was not intercepted and largely avoided pressure, taking only one sack.

“Really just locking in and playing a lot better than we did the first two times we played them,” he said. “We had a bunch of turnovers last time. This time they turned it over and that’s usually the story of football games.”

After Brees’ third interception on a tipped pass late in the fourth quarter, the Bucs were able to close out the game with Brady, in his first season with Tampa Bay (13-5) after 20 with New England, taking a knee.

“Obviously they beat us twice in the regular season,” Bucs left tackle Donovan Smith said. “We came around in Round 3 with the knockout.

“We’ve been building. You got to get hot at the right time.”

The Saints led 6-3 when Brees, while trying to flee pressure, underthrew Michael Thomas and was intercepted by Sean Murphy-Bunting, who raced 36 yards along the sideline to the Saints 3. Brady hit Evans one play later to put the Buccaneers up 10-6.

Brees’ 16-yard pass to Tre-Quan Smith put the Saints ahead 20-13, and New Orleans appeared primed to build on that lead when Brees found Jared Cook across the 50. But Bucs safety Antoine Winfield Jr. stripped Cook from behind and White snagged the loose ball, returning it 18 yards to the New Orleans 40.

“It wasn’t nothing Brees did. It was everything our defense did,” White said. “Our mindset the whole week was they won the first two rounds, we had to win round three.”

Five plays later, Brady hit Fournette over the middle for a 6-yard score.

Ryan Succop’s 36-yard field goal made it 23-20 before White’s interception of a pass intended for Alvin Kamara gave the Buccaneers the ball at the New Orleans 20, setting up Tampa Bay’s final TD.

Jameis Winston, forced out of Tampa Bay when Brady became available, threw a 56-yard touchdown pass against his old team on a trick play.

Kamara took a direct snap and gave the ball to receiver Emmanuel Sanders on a reverse before Sanders lateraled back to Winston. The reserve QB launched an accurate pass down the middle to an open Smith.

Fournette finished with 107 yards from scrimmage, 63 on the ground. He had 40 yards in one drive that set up a field goal that tied it at 13 as time expired in the first half.

Kamara had 105 yards from scrimmage, with 85 on the ground. Thomas was held without a catch in his final game of an injury-plagued season.

Buccaneers: Linebacker Jack Cichy went out with an elbow injury in the first quarter.

Saints: Deonte Harris, who returned the first Tampa Bay punt 54 yards to set up a field goal, left with a neck injury in the first half.

The Bucs will try to advance to the second Super Bowl in franchise history with Brady, no stranger to high-stakes games in cold weather after his two decades in New England.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs had lost Patrick Mahomes to a concussion and were in danger of losing the game.

Then their defense and Chad Henne — their defense and Chad Henne?! — kept their hopes of a Super Bowl repeat alive, holding off the Cleveland Browns 22-17 on Sunday to advance to their third straight AFC championship game.

With their star quarterback reduced to a spectator, the oft-forgotten bunch opposite Mahomes’ high-powered offense forced the Browns to punt in the waning minutes. Then, his 35-year-old backup showed some moxie with a long third-down scramble and audacious fourth-down completion to Tyreek Hill — when go-for-broke Andy Reid decided to go for it — that gave the Chiefs a first down with just over a minute left and allowed them to run out the clock.

“That’s why we love Big Red. He’s always on time,” Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu said. “He’s like our spirit warrior out here behind the scenes. He’s always trying stuff. We always knew he has one play on the table.”

Mahomes hadn’t played in 21 days, since the Chiefs clinched the AFC’s top seed in Week 16, but he hardly missed a beat before leaving midway through the third quarter. He finished 21 of 30 for 255 yards and touchdowns passing and running.

Harrison Butker added three field goals for the Chiefs, who nearly blew a 19-3 lead but survived to become the first AFC team to host three consecutive conference title games. They’ll face the Buffalo Bills next Sunday.

“It stings,” Browns coach Kevin Stefanski said. “We came here to win and didn’t get the job done. There is a finality to that.”

Baker Mayfield threw for 204 yards with a touchdown and an interception for the Browns, who were coming off their first playoff win since the 1994 season. But their inability to drive for the winning touchdown — they punted with 4:23 left in the game — kept them from winning two playoff games in a season for the first time since 1950.

Mahomes completed 11 of his first 12 passes and led the Chiefs to back-to-back touchdowns to start the game. Mahomes ran for the first and let Travis Kelce turn a dump-off into a 20-yard catch for the other, making him the first player since Steve Young in 1995 with three straight playoff games with TDs on the ground and through the air.

In fact, Mahomes was so sharp passing in the first half that he even completed a celebratory heave to a lucky fan in the far reaches of Arrowhead Stadium’s upper deck following his touchdown jaunt.

After the teams swapped field goals, with Butker breaking the Chiefs playoff record with a 50-yarder into the wind, the Browns marched for what could have been a momentum-swinging score heading into halftime. But just when wide receiver Rashard Higgins tried to stretch over the goal line for a touchdown, the Chiefs’ Daniel Sorensen arrived to deliver a hit, popping the ball loose and into the end zone for a touchback — the call stood after a video review.

Compounding the miscue for Cleveland? The Chiefs had 1:32 left, plenty of time for Mahomes to get them within range of Butker’s strong right leg. His chip-shot field goal gave Kansas City a 19-3 halftime lead.

The entire complexion of the game changed early in the third quarter, though.

First, the Browns held the Chiefs when Mayfield threw an interception and Butker missed a field goal off the upright. Then, Mayfield led them briskly the other way, capping a 77-yard drive with a touchdown throw to Jarvis Landry. And finally, roughly 17,000 fans allowed into the stadium because of the pandemic were left sitting in stunned silence when Mahomes was tackled around the head with 7:27 left in the quarter and was left crumpled on the turf near midfield.

Mahomes, already hobbled by a foot injury, stumbled as he tried to get to his feet. He was eventually helped to the blue tent on the sideline, then ran to the locker room, where he was evaluated for a concussion.

“It kind of knocked the wind out of him and everything else,” Reid said after the game. “He’s doing great right now, which is a real positive as we look at this. He passed all the deals he needed to pass and we’ll see where it goes from here.”

The momentum finally turned, the Browns began to lean heavily on their vaunted run game, which had produced just 18 yards in the first half. Chubb converted on fourth down with a hard run, then Hunt followed another fourth-down conversion on the same drive by hitting the end zone against his former team to make it 22-17 with 11:07 to go.

It remained with Cleveland when Karl Joseph picked off Henne in the end zone a few minutes later, but the Chiefs defense stuff Nick Chubb on first down, forced an incompletion and ultimately made Cleveland punt it away.

The Browns never got another chance with the ball.

Stefanski made his playoff head coaching debut after missing last week’s game in Pittsburgh because of COVID-19. Pro Bowl OL Joel Bitonio and CBs Denzel Ward and Kevin Johnson also were back from their illnesses.

After losing Mahomes, Chiefs and Henne hold off Browns 22-17. #HenneThingIsPossible

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs have proven that they can overcome just about any deficit in the postseason.

That doesn’t mean they want to keep doing it.

Of all the points of emphasis this weekend, when the Chiefs play the Cleveland Browns for a spot in their third straight AFC championship game, perhaps none is as consequential as this: Kansas City wants to start fast on Sunday, something it failed to do in falling behind by double figures in each of their playoff games last season.

“Yeah, our coaches brought it up: ’Let’s not put ourselves in that same position we did last year,” Chiefs wide receiver Tyreek Hill said this week. “We just have to come out and have the same energy we’ve had all year.”

It would sure make a smoother road to the Super Bowl than the bumpy track they took last year.

The Chiefs began their journey to Miami by falling behind Houston by 24 points early in the second quarter, thanks in part to a blocked punt returned for a touchdown. But they responded by scoring 41 consecutive points, taking a 28-24 lead into halftime and piling on in the third quarter, eventually coasting to a 51-31 victory at Arrowhead Stadium.

It seemed like déjà vu in the AFC title game the following week, when Tennessee pounded its way to leads of 10-0 and 17-7 late in the first half. But much like the Chiefs did in the divisional round, Patrick Mahomes and his fleet flotilla of playmakers responded with 28 straight points, cruising in the fourth quarter to a 35-24 victory.

Then came the Super Bowl and probably the toughest deficit, when San Francisco turned a tied game at halftime into a 20-10 lead. It was still that margin when Mahomes hit Travis Kelce for a touchdown with 6:13 left, and the game’s MVP followed with a touchdown pass to Damien Williams with 2:44 to take the lead. And when Williams rolled 38 yards for the clinching touchdown, the Chiefs had scored 21 points in a tick over five minutes for a 31-20 victory.

“I mean, you understand what it takes. That’s the biggest thing,” said Mahomes, who hasn’t played in three weeks after the Chiefs clinched the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye against Atlanta in late December.

“You know it’s not easy. You’ll have to put in a lot of work, but you can do it. Play to the best of our ability and it’ll handle itself.”

For all their success this season, including a franchise-record 14 wins and a fifth straight AFC West title, very little has been a breeze. AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Kamaka Hepa scored 15 points and No. 4 Texas rebounded from its first Big 12 loss of the season by thumping Kansas State 82-67. The Longhorns broke the game open with an 18-0 run midway through the first half keyed by a burst of 3-pointers and a defensive press that rattled the Wildcats. Hepa made five 3-pointers in his first start and just his fourth game overall this season. Andrew Jones added 19 points for the Longhorns. Texas made 12 3-pointers. Kansas state has lost four in a row.

WACO, Texas (AP) — Ashley Joens scored 14 of her 27 points in the fourth quarter and Iowa State beat No. 6 Baylor 75-71. That ended ended the Lady Bears' 61-game home court winning streak. Baylor played for the first time in two weeks because of a pause in the program after coach Kim Mulkey tested positive for COVID-19. The Lady Bears overcame an early 13-point deficit, but couldn't avoid a second consecutive streak-snapping loss to the Cyclones. Iowa State's 57-56 home win in the final game last season ended the Lady Bears' 58-game conference winning streak.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Kate Cain brushed up against a rare triple-double and short-handed Nebraska bumped off No. 15 Ohio State 63-55, halting the Buckeyes seven-game win streak and dropping them from the undefeated ranks. Cain scored 22 points, pulled down 12 rebounds and blocked nine shots to lead Nebraska to its third win over a ranked opponent in its last five games. Whitney Brown hit four 3-pointers and added 14 points for Nebraska, Sam Haiby added 11 points and 10 rebounds for her first career double-double. &nbsp;Ohio State entered the game averaging 89.9 points per game and had not scored fewer than 78 points before Saturday. &nbsp;Aaliyah Patty and Dorka Juhasz each scored 13 points for Ohio State, Jacy Sheldon and Madison Greene 11 apiece.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Dru Smith scored 15 points and No. 17 Missouri shook off rust from an 11-day layoff due to COVID-19 protocols to beat Texas A&amp;M 68-52. Jeremiah Tilmon added 14 points and 10 rebounds for the Tigers (8-2, 2-2 SEC). Andre Gordon paced the Aggies (7-5, 2-4) with 19 points.

UNDATED (AP) — James Baker, Jr. registered 14 points as Morehead State defeated Southeast Missouri 64-50. Nana Akenten led the Redhawks with 14 points.

CHICAGO (AP) — Tate Hall scored a season-high 24 points as Loyola of Chicago extended its home win streak to seven games, topping Northern Iowa 72-57. Marquise Kennedy had 10 points for Loyola of Chicago. Keith Clemons added 10 points with five assists. The Ramblers turned the ball over just five times and scored 30 points off 18 Northern Iowa turnovers. Austin Phyfe had 18 points, 12 rebounds and three blocks for the Panthers. Bowen Born added 10 points. Noah Carter had 10 points.

UNDATED (AP) — Aaron Rodgers made sure he'd get the opportunity to play an NFC championship game at home for the first time in his Hall of Fame-caliber career. Rodgers threw two touchdown passes and also ran for a score as the top-seeded Green Bay Packers defeated the Los Angeles Rams 32-18 in an NFC divisional playoff game Saturday. 

Green Bay's potent offense overpowered the Rams' vaunted defense for much of the day. The Packers didn't allow any sacks despite playing without injured All-Pro left tackle David Bakhtiari. Green Bay sacked Jared Goff four times.

— The Buffalo Bills advanced to their first AFC championship game in 27 years after Taron Johnson scored on a 101-yard interception return to seal a 17-3 win over the Baltimore Ravens. The interception return came with Baltimore facing third-and-goal from Buffalo's 9 where Johnson stepped in front of Lamar Jackson's pass intended for tight end Mark Andrews with 41 seconds left in the third quarter. 

Jackson did not return after sustaining a head injury on the final play of the third quarter when he was sacked while chasing down an errant snap. Buffalo limited the NFL's top running offense to 150 yards on 32 carries.

— The divisional round continues Sunday with two more games. The Cleveland Browns visit the defending Super Bowl champion Kansas City Chiefs, who had last week off after earning the No. 1 seed and a first-round bye. Later Sunday, New Orleans hosts Tampa Bay in a matchup of two of the NFL's oldest and most accomplished quarterbacks, 42-year-old Drew Brees and 43-year-old Tom Brady. 

Arthur Smith signs deal to be Falcons coach

FLOWERY BRANCH, Ga. (AP) — The Atlanta Falcons say Arthur Smith has signed a contract to be their next coach. Smith, a former Tennessee Titans assistant, agreed to terms Friday. Smith heads to Atlanta after two years as Tennessee's offensive coordinator. He takes over a franchise that's 28-36 since losing the Super Bowl four years ago under predecessor Dan Quinn. The Falcons haven't reached the playoffs since 2017. 

UNDATED (AP) — James Harden delivered 32 points and a triple-double in his Brooklyn debut, Kevin Durant scored a season-high 42 points in his first game back with his former teammate, and the Nets showed off their potent potential in a 122-115 victory over the Orlando Magic. Harden had 14 assists and 12 rebounds after being cleared to play earlier in the afternoon after all the players in the blockbuster trade that brought him from Houston had completed their physicals. He had no practice time with the Nets and sure didn't need it, becoming the first player in franchise history to have a triple-double in his debut with them. 

— Chris Boucher, Kyle Lowry and Fred Van Fleet made eight straight free throws in the final two minutes, helping Toronto beat the Charlotte Hornets 116-113 for the Raptors' first two-game win streak of the season. Norman Powell led the Raptors with 24 points and Boucher added 20 points and nine rebounds. Gordon Heyward scored 25 points and Terry Rozier added 24 for the Hornets, losers of three straight. 

— Damian Lillard scored 36 points and the Portland Trail Blazers rebounded from a first-half deficit to beat the Atlanta Hawks 112-106. Enes Kanter added 12 points and 15 rebounds for the Blazers, who have won five of their last six. But Portland got some bad news when guard CJ McCollum left the game at halftime because of a left foot sprain. Trae Young had 26 points and 11 assists, while Clint Capela added 25 points and 11 rebounds for Atlanta.

— DeMar DeRozan had 24 points, Dejounte Murray added 18 points and the San Antonio Spurs rallied to beat the undermanned Houston Rockets 103-91 on Saturday to snap a four-game skid at home. Rockets center Christian Wood had 24 points and 17 rebounds and Mason Jones had a season-high 24 points. Ben McLemore had a season-high 21 points, going 4 for 7 on 3-pointers. Houston was on the brink of not having eight players available as required by the league but met the minimum in the final hour.

— Ja Morant returned to the Memphis lineup after missing eight games with an ankle injury and scored 17 points, leading the Grizzlies to a 106-104 win over the Philadelphia 76ers. Morant, who sprained his left ankle Dec. 28 at Brooklyn, added six assists. Rookie Xavier Tillman added 15 points, and Grayson Allen had 12 as the Grizzlies won their fourth straight. Shake Milton helped rally Philadelphia from a 13-point deficit with a burst in the fourth quarter, scoring 15 of his 28 points in the period.

No. 1 Gonzaga overcomes slow start, beats Saint Mary's 73-59

UNDATED (AP) — Corey Kispert had 17 points and five rebounds and No. 1 Gonzaga overcame a slow start with a surge to end the first half, pulling away late to beat rival Saint Mary's 73-59 for its 18th straight victory spanning the past two seasons. Joel Ayayi scored 16 points to help the Bulldogs improve to 14-0 overall and 5-0 in the West Coast Conference. A 4.5-magnitude earthquake in the South Bay shook the gym early in the second half. Play continued with no disruption at what typically would be an imposing visiting arena at McKeon Pavilion but had a far different feel devoid of fans.

— Davion Mitchell had 19 points and Jared Butler finally scored late as No. 2 Baylor overcame No. 15 Texas Tech 68-60. The Bears stayed undefeated after their closest game this season. Butler was a preseason AP All-American and coming off a season-high 28 points in the last game. But he was 0-for-9 shooting with six turnovers before hitting consecutive 3-pointers for the Bears in the final five minutes. Mac McClung had 24 points for 11-4 Texas Tech.

The Bulldogs scored the final eight points of the game to win their fourth straight home game in the series. Creighton squandered a 58-45 lead over the final 7 1/2 minutes and a a 66-62 lead in overtime as its six-game winning streak came to an end. 

— Keon Johnson scored 10 of his 16 points in the second half, leading No. 10 Tennessee to a 81-61 victory over Vanderbilt. Johnson was one of three double-digit scorers for the Volunteers. John Fulkerson had 15 points, and Victor Bailey scored 11. Vanderbilt was led by Dylan Disu's 19 points. Scotty Pippen, Jr. scored 18.

— Isaiah Wong had 30 points, seven rebounds and six assists, and Miami beat No. 16 Louisville 78-72 to end an 18-game skid against ranked opponents. Matt Cross scored 16 points and Elijah Olaniyi had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Miami. Louisville rallied from a 12-point halftime deficit and got within 68-64 on Matt Slazinski's three free throws with 2:21 remaining. Cross' 3-pointer with 1:29 left gave Miami another seven-point margin.

— Sam Hauser and Tomas Woldetensae had 14 points and four 3-pointers apiece as No. 18 Virginia won its 11th straight over 12th-ranked Clemson with an 85-50 victory. The Cavaliers moved to 5-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference, their best start to league play since opening 12-0 in 2017-18. Virginia won its fifth straight since losing to No. 1 Gonzaga last month. 

— E.J. Liddell scored 26 points as No. 21 Ohio State beat No. 14 Illinois 87-81 in a very physical Big Ten matchup. One technical was called, on Ohio State's Duane Washington Jr., and the officials had to step in many times to avoid fights. Washington, Justin Ahrens and Seth Towns each added 11 as the visiting Buckeyes improved to 11-3. Ohio State was missing injured guards C.J. Walker and Jimmy Sotos. Ayo Dosunmu led Illinois with 22 points. The Illini (ih-LY'-ny) fell to 9-5.

— Liam Robbins had 22 points and eight rebounds in 22 minutes to lead No. 23 Minnesota to a 75-57 victory over No. 7 Michigan. This was the first loss for the Wolverines. Marcus Carr scored 17 points and Gabe Kalscheur added 10 points. The Gophers are 11-4 overall, 4-4 in the Big Ten. They played their seventh straight game against an opponent ranked in the Associated Press poll. Minnesota held the best shooting team in the conference to a season-low score and a season-high 20 turnovers. Michigan fell to 11-1 and 6-1.

Shrangovich's OT goal gives Devils 2-1 win over Bruins

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — Egor Sharangovich scored his first NHL goal in the final seconds of overtime to propel the New Jersey Devils to a 2-1 victory over the Boston Bruins. 

MacKenzie Blackwood made 27 saves and picked up his first victory of the season. Miles Wood also scored for the second consecutive game for New Jersey. Boston's Patrice Bergeron scored and Jaroslav Halak made 29 saves, including two critical stops in the final minutes of the third period to force the extra session. Devils defenseman Damon Severson made a nifty backhand pass at the edge of the offensive zone to set up the 22-year-old Sharangovich with 1.7 seconds remaining in overtime.

— William Karlsson tied the game with 1:22 left in regulation, and Max Pacioretty scored just 7 seconds into overtime to give the Vegas Golden Knights a 2-1 victory over the Anaheim Ducks. Marc-Andre Fleury stopped 21 of the 22 shots he faced. Max Comtois scored for Anaheim and John Gibson stopped 31 shots. Vegas swept the two-game series.

— Sean Monahan, Dillon Dube and Matthew Tkachuk scored power-play goals and Jacob Markstrom' made 32 saves and shut out his former team as the Calgary Flames beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-0. Calgary's home-opener was the first NHL game at Scotiabank Saddledome since March 8, 2020, a span of 10 months and eight days. Vancouver goaltender Braden Holtby stopped 32 of 35 shots in the loss.

— Joe Thornton scored his first goal for Toronto, linemates Auston Matthews and Mitch Marner also connected for the first time this season, and the Maple Leafs beat the Ottawa Senators 3-2 on Saturday night. Marner had two assists and Thornton and Matthews one each to help the Maple Leafs rebound from a 5-3 loss to the Senators on Friday night at Canadian Tire Centre. The 41-year-old Thornton signed a one-year deal with the Maple Leafs in the offseason. 

— Robby Fabbri scored the tiebreaking goal with 2:42 left in the third period, Dylan Larkin got his second goal into an empty net and the Detroit Red Wings beat the Carolina Hurricanes 4-2. Fabbri fluttered the puck past Petr Mrazek from the front of the crease off a pass from Filip Zadina behind the net. Zadina also set up Bobby Ryan to score in his Red Wings debut, breaking a scoreless tie early in the second period, after the veteran forward missed the opener with an injury. Larkin scored a tiebreaking goal early in the third just 18 seconds after Carolina went ahead. Detroit's Jonathan Bernier finished with 29 saves in his season debut.

— Marcus Johansson scored with 11 seconds remaining in overtime Saturday night and the Minnesota Wild defeated the Los Angeles Kings 4-3 for the second straight game after trailing by two goals after two periods. Johansson's wrist shot went near the top of the net and beat Kings goaltender Jonathan Quick on his stick side. Ryan Suter sent it to overtime with 2 seconds remaining with a snapshot near the blue line that Quick was unable to get his glove on.

— Phil Kessel scored two goals, Antti Raanta stopped 31 shots and the Arizona Coyotes bounced back from an opening loss to beat the San Jose Sharks 5-3. The Coyotes pressured the Sharks from the start, scoring four goals in the opening two periods. Kessel scored the tying goal in the closing seconds of the opener and had goals in each of the first two periods Saturday. Timo Meier had two goals and an assist, and Ryan Donato also scored for the Sharks.

— Pavel Buchnevich and Artemi Panarin each scored twice and Alexandar Georgiev stopped 23 shots for his fifth career shutout, leading the New York Rangers to a 5-0 win over the Islanders. Kaapo Kakko also scored as the Rangers bounced back for their first victory two nights after being blanked 4-0 by the Islanders in the season opener. Ilya Sorokin had 27 saves in his NHL debut for the Islanders, getting the start after Semyon Varlamov was hit near the throat by a shot from Cal Clutterbuck in warmups.

— Brad Richardson scored the go-ahead goal with 9 minutes left, and the Nashville Predators beat the Columbus Blue Jackets 5-2 for their second straight win to open the season. Colton Sissons, Luke Kunin and Filip Forsberg also scored in the third period, and Rocco Grimaldi had a goal for Nashville. Goalie Juuse Saros made 42 saves for the victory.

Winnipeg Jets scrap practice over possible virus exposure

UNDATED (AP) — The Winnipeg Jets canceled practice Saturday because of potential exposure to COVID-19.

The NHL team did not provide details and said information regarding plans for Sunday will come later. The Jets are scheduled to play at Toronto on Monday.

Jets forward Nikolaj Ehlers was held out of practice Wednesday while in COVID-19 protocol but played in Winnipeg's season opener, a 4-3 overtime loss to visiting Calgary on Thursday.

The NHL started its season Wednesday amid a spike in COVID-19 cases in both Canada and the United States. The Dallas Stars' first four games were postponed after 17 players tested positive for the novel coronavirus.

—Chris Driedger will be Florida's starting goaltender when the Panthers play their delayed season opener Sunday night against the Chicago Blackhawks. Driedger becomes the 11th opening-night starter in Panthers history. Regular starter Sergei Bobrovsky, who missed most of Panthers' training camp, is in line to start Florida's second game against Chicago on Tuesday. Back in October, the Hutchinson Community College men's golf team received its first No. 1 ranking in program history in any poll.

The Blue Dragons reached No. 1 in a second poll on Friday as Hutchinson enters the 2021 spring season as the top-ranked team in the Bushnell/Golfweek Coaches' Pre-Spring Poll.

GolfStat placed the Blue Dragons No. 1 first when it posted its first national NJCAA Division I rankings of the season on October 14, 2020.

The Blue Dragons played three tournaments in the 2020 fall seasons. They finished no worse than fourth in two predominant NCAA Division II Tournament fields and then won the NJCAA National Preview at The Rawls Course, site of the 2021 NJCAA Championships in, in Lubbock, Texas.

The Blue Dragons set numerous team records and four different Hutch golfers posted career-low 54-hole scores in winning the National Preview.

Hutchinson received all seven first-place votes in the Bushnell/Golfweek Pre-Spring poll. Odessa College follows the Blue Dragons at No. 2. Then it's District III rival Indian Hills, Eastern Florida State and Midland College at Nos 3, 4 and 5.

Central Alabama, Iowa Western, Western Texas, McLennan and Jefferson State round out the Top 10.

The Blue Dragons were ranked fourth in the final fall Bushnell/Golfweek rankings. Midland was the previous No. 1 team.

Dodge City was receiving votes and was the only other team in the Jayhawk Conference to be listed in the Pre-Spring poll.

GREAT BEND, Kan.—The Hutchinson Salthawk Girls played without their strongest inside player in Ziya Simms who was injured late in the Maize South game, and it showed as Great Bend overcame 1st half turnovers to win going away in the 4th quarter for a 41-32 win for the Panther Girls.

Great Bend forced 23 Salthawk turnovers and converted those turnovers into points and also converted second-chance points outscored the Salthawks in the 4th quarter 10-4.&nbsp; The game was tied with Hutchinson having the last possession when Great Bend forced a turnover at mid-court and got the lay up at the buzzer to take a 24-22 lead at the half.&nbsp; Great Bend led after the 3rd quarter 31-28 as well.

Hutch was led in scoring by Gracie Keeler off the bench with 8 points.

Next action for the Lady Salthawks will be next Tuesday at Goddard Eisenhower at 7:30pm.

The Salthawk Boys had a huge first quarter to lead 18-6 and combined that with a 13-6 3rd quarter as Myles Thompson poured in 16 points to lead Hutchinson in scoring as Hutch mauled Great Bend 66-41.&nbsp; Hutchinson also received double digit scoring from Treyton Peterson with 13, Jake Huhs chipped in 10 points, Nic Lange had 10 and Kinser Newquist had 9 points in the win.

Next action for the Salthawk Boys will be at Bishop Carroll in the first round of the Dodge City Tournament of Champions at 7:15 next Tuesday, January 19th in Wichita.
