GREAT BEND, Kan.—The Hutchinson Salthawk Girls played without their strongest inside player in Ziya Simms who was injured late in the Maize South game, and it showed as Great Bend overcame 1st half turnovers to win going away in the 4th quarter for a 41-32 win for the Panther Girls.
Great Bend forced 23 Salthawk turnovers and converted those turnovers into points and also converted second-chance points outscored the Salthawks in the 4th quarter 10-4. The game was tied with Hutchinson having the last possession when Great Bend forced a turnover at mid-court and got the lay up at the buzzer to take a 24-22 lead at the half. Great Bend led after the 3rd quarter 31-28 as well.
Hutch was led in scoring by Gracie Keeler off the bench with 8 points.
Next action for the Lady Salthawks will be next Tuesday at Goddard Eisenhower at 7:30pm.
The Salthawk Boys had a huge first quarter to lead 18-6 and combined that with a 13-6 3rd quarter as Myles Thompson poured in 16 points to lead Hutchinson in scoring as Hutch mauled Great Bend 66-41. Hutchinson also received double digit scoring from Treyton Peterson with 13, Jake Huhs chipped in 10 points, Nic Lange had 10 and Kinser Newquist had 9 points in the win.
Next action for the Salthawk Boys will be at Bishop Carroll in the first round of the Dodge City Tournament of Champions at 7:15 next Tuesday, January 19th in Wichita.
