KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — The Kansas City Chiefs placed outside linebackers coach Britt Reid on administrative leave while an investigation continues into a crash that injured two children. The team has said Reid, who is head coach Andy Reid's son, was involved in a multi-vehicle crash last Thursday that injured two young children near the team's training complex next to Arrowhead Stadium. A 5-year-old girl, identified by the Chiefs as Ariel Young, remained in critical condition on Tuesday. The Chiefs said the team has contacted the girl's family and is offering support and resources to them. Andy Reid said this week that Britt underwent surgery after the crash.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes will have surgery this week on the turf toe injury he suffered in the playoffs. That likely will sideline him for the start of the offseason program but ensure he'll be ready well before training camp. Mahomes met with coaches and trainers a day after the Chiefs were beaten 31-9 by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the Super Bowl, and the decision was made to have surgery later in the week, according to a person familiar with the situation. The person spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because the plans had not been disclosed publicly.

UNDATED (AP) — The longtime NFL coach Marty Schottenheimer has died. Family friend and former Kansas City Chiefs publicist Bob Moore says Schottenheimer died Monday night in Charlotte, North Carolina. He was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2014 and was moved to a hospice Jan. 30. Schottenheimer won 200 regular-season games with four NFL teams thanks to his "Martyball" brand of smash-mouth football but fell short in the playoffs. He was the eighth-winningest coach in NFL history. He coached for 21 seasons with Cleveland, Kansas City, Washington and San Diego. His success was rooted in "Martyball," a conservative approach that featured a strong running game and tough defense. He would exhort his players before a game with his mantra, "One play at a time." Marty Schotenheimer was 77.

UNDATED (AP) — The Tampa Bay Buccaneers' run from the wild card to Super Bowl champions was a remarkable one. Tom Brady and the Bucs became the first team to beat three former Super Bowl MVP quarterbacks on the way to the title, defeating Drew Brees, Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes in successive games. Tampa Bay became the seventh wild-card team to win it all and the first since the 2010 Green Bay Packers. The Bucs were the first team to win four playoff games on the way to the title since AFC North champion Baltimore did it eight years ago.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Andrew Jones scored 24 points and No. 13 Texas held off Kansas State 80-77 on Tuesday night. Greg Brown added 17 points and Courtney Ramey had 14 for the Longhorns, who snapped a three-game skid. Mike McGuirl missed a 3-point attempt from half court in the waning seconds for the Wildcats, who have lost 11 straight. Kansas State hasn't won since Dec. 29. Nijel Pack scored 22 points and McGuirl had 18 for the Wildcats. The Longhorns tied a season high with 13 3-pointers, making their first six attempts and finishing at 56.5% from beyond the arc.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Christian Bishop scored 17 points and No. 19 Creighton capitalized on Georgetown's worst shooting performance in a decade while rolling to a 63-48 win. Creighton avenged an 86-79 loss to the Hoyas in Omaha, Nebraska, last Wednesday and won for the fifth time in six games. Georgetown had elevated its play while winning two of three since its three-week COVID-19 pause. But against their third straight ranked opponent, the Hoyas looked more like the team that lost eight of its first 11 games. The Bluejays never trailed and led by as many as 24 points at McDonough Arena.

FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) — RJ Nembhard scored 20 points, Kevin Samuel had 10 points and 11 rebounds, and TCU rallied late to beat Iowa State 79-76. The Horned Frogs used an 18-7 run that started with about nine minutes left to build a 77-71 lead with 34 seconds to play. Nembhard had nine points including a dunk and a three-point play during the stretch. The Cyclones pulled within three points twice in the remaining seconds but didn't get closer. Rasir Bolton scored 26 points to lead Iowa State. TCU (11-7, 4-5 Big 12) has won consecutive games. Iowa State (2-12, 0-9) has lost eight straight. &nbsp;&nbsp;

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — Terez Paylor, the popular NFL writer and Pro Football Hall of Fame voter whose career took him from the Kansas City Star to Yahoo Sports, died unexpectedly at his home early Tuesday. He was 37. Yahoo Sports announced his death in a statement. No cause was given. Paylor, who was known for his booming laugh and infectious smile, was one of 48 voting members of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. He also was a member of the Pro Football Writers of America and National Association of Black Journalists.

UNDATED (AP) — The Utah Jazz have continued one of the most torrid stretches in team history. 

Donovan Mitchell poured in 36 points and had nine assists as the Jazz picked up their fifth straight win, 122-108 over the Celtics. Joe Ingles scored a season-high 24 points and added six assists for the Jazz, while Rudy Gobert chipped in 18 points and 12 rebounds in Utah's 16th victory in 17 games.

Ingles and Mitchell combined for three 3-pointers in a game-ending, 14-4 run to help Utah improve to an NBA-best 20-5.

Jaylen Brown scored 33 points and Jayson Tatum added 23 in Boston's third loss in four games.

— Joel Embiid (joh-EHL' ehm-BEED') delivered 25 points and 17 rebounds for the 76ers in their sixth win in seven games, 119-111 at Sacramento. Tobias Harris and Seth Curry each added 22 points and the Sixers used a 10-0 run to take control of the game in the fourth quarter.

— The Pistons ended a four-game losing streak as Jeremi Grant equaled a career high with 32 points in a 122-111 downing of the Nets. Detroit shot 66.7% from the field in the first quarter and led by 20 in the second. 

— Stephen Curry scored 32 points and the Warriors snapped the Spurs' three-game winning streak with a 114-91 trouncing at San Antonio. Eric Paschall (PAS'-kul) had 15 points and Andrew Wiggins added 14 in Golden State's first win at San Antonio in six tries. 

— Jimmy Butler finishing with a game-high 26 points and the Heat beat New York 98-96 to finish off a sweep of a home-and-home series. Bam Adebayo (ad-eh-BY'-oh) finished with 19 points after he and Butler provided most of Miami's points in the second half.

— The Pelicans ran their winning streak to four games as Josh Hart had 20 points and a career-high 17 rebounds in a 130-101 rout of the Rockets. Brandon Ingram scored 22 and Zion Williamson added 20 points, seven assists and five rebounds despite being limited to 20 minutes on the court due to early foul trouble.

— Damian Lillard scored 36 points and the Trail Blazers extended their winning streak over the Magic to eight games with a 106-97 victory Tuesday night. Carmelo Anthony added a season-high 23 points for Portland, including five 3-pointers. 

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Pilot error has been determined to be the cause of a helicopter crash that killed Kobe Bryant and eight others last year.

The National Transportation Safety Board said poor visibility because of thick fog north of Los Angeles probably led pilot Ara Zobayan to become disoriented. The NTSB said Zobayan thought he was climbing when the craft was plunging toward a Southern California hillside.

Zobayan frequently flew Bryant. Investigators say he ignored his training and violated federal regulations.

UNDATED (AP) — Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban says he decided before this season began not to play the national anthem before the team's home games.

The Mavericks played their first 10 regular-season home games without fans. The club had fans for the first time in Monday's 127-122 win over Minnesota. 

Cuban didn't elaborate on his decision not to play the anthem, saying nobody had noticed. 

— Timberwolves guard Malik Beasley has been sentenced to 120 days in jail after pleading guilty to a felony charge of threats of violence. He was arrested for pointing a rifle at a family outside his home last fall. The Hennepin County Attorney's Office announced Beasley can serve his stay in the workhouse after the conclusion of his NBA season. 

Alabama escapes with win over South Carolina

UNDATED (AP) — No. 11 Alabama was barely able to avoid a second straight SEC loss.

John Petty Jr. scored 20 points and Jahvon Quinerly (KWIHN'-ur-lee) added 13 as the Crimson Tide got past South Carolina, 81-78. Petty also provided a team-high eight rebounds in his first 20-point performance in six games.

The Gamecocks had a chance to tie it late, but they settled for Justin Minaya's two-pointer with two seconds left instead of going for a three.

AJ Lawson finished with 21 points and Minaya had 15 for South Carolina.

— Sean McNeil scored a career-high 26 points and 14th-ranked West Virginia finished a regular-season sweep of No. 7 Texas Tech with an 82-71 victory over the Red Raiders. McBride scored 18 of his 20 points in the second half and the Mountaineers ended a four-game skid at Lubbock.

— Andrew Jones scored 24 points and No. 13 Texas snapped a three-game slide by holding off Kansas State, 80-77. Greg Brown added 17 points and Courtney Ramey had 14 for the 12-5 Longhorns.

— Christian Bishop scored 17 points and No. 19 Creighton capitalized on Georgetown's worst shooting performance in a decade while rolling to a 63-48 win The Bluejays never trailed and led by as many as 24 points as the Hoyas shot 27% for the game.

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Big Ten officials have decided to move next month's men's basketball tournament from Chicago to Indianapolis. Games will be played March 10-14 at Lucas Oil Stadium, which also will be the site of this year's Final Four. The Big Ten women's tournament will be held the same week just a few blocks away at Bankers Life Fieldhouse. 

The conference says the moves were necessary for several reasons surrounding health and safety concerns because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

In other college basketball developments:

— Howard University has canceled the rest of its men's basketball season almost two months since playing just its fifth game. The school said the decision was made out of an abundance of caution because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Howard went 1-4 and last played Dec. 18. 

UNDATED (AP) — The Florida Panthers gained some revenge on Tuesday, two days after the Detroit Red Wings pinned them with their first regulation loss of the season.

Sergei Bobrovsky (boh-BRAHV'-skee) made 31 saves and Patric Hornqvist was credited with the eventual winning goal in the Panthers' 2-1 victory over the Red Wings. Hornqvist's winner and came on a power play when a shot by Aaron Ekblad deflected off his shoulder and over the head of Thomas Greiss (grys).

Hornqvist also assisted on Alex Wennberg's goal as Florida improved to 7-1-2.

Detroit has dropped nine of 10, with the lone win coming Sunday in Florida.

— The Lightning have a six-game winning streak after Steven Stamkos furnished two goals and an assist in a 6-1 pounding of the Predators. Mathieu Joseph scored twice and Andrei Vasilevskiy (va-sih-LEHV'-skee) made 32 saves to help Tampa Bay beat Nashville for the fourth time in 11 days.

— Zach Whitecloud scored the first game-winning goal of his career late in the third period to lift the Golden Knights over the Ducks, 5-4. Chandler Stephenson had a goal and an assist as Vegas improved to 7-0-1 at home.

— The Blackhawks pulled out a 2-1 win over the Stars on Pius Suter's (pyoos SOO'-turz) goal 2:15 into overtime. Mattias Janmark also scored for Chicago, which is 6-1-4 in its last 11 games.

— Logan Couture (koo-TOOR') scored once in regulation and again in a shootout as the Sharks dumped the Kings, 4-3. Dustin Brown had two goals and an assist for the Kings, who led until Evander Kane tallied with 44.3 seconds left in the third period.

— Goals by defensemen Darnell Nurse, Evan Bouchard and Tyson Barrie lifted the Oilers to a 3-2 win against the Senators. The blueliners picked up the scoring slack while Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl (DRY'-sy-tul) each ended 10-game point streaks.

— Elias (eh-LEE'-uhs) Lindholm scored a power-play goal with 1:42 to go, leading the Flames to a 3-2 win over the Jets. Andrew Mangiapane (mahn-juh-PAN'-ee) and Byron Froese (frohz) also scored to back Jacob Markstrom's 25-save effort.

COVID concerns force another NHL postponement

WASHINGTON (AP) — Coronavirus problems continue to affect NHL teams across the United States.

The league postponed last night's Flyers-Capitals game in Washington because of COVID-19-related issues with Philadelphia. It's the 34th game postponed so far this season, which is roughly a quarter of the way through.

Philadelphia's upcoming games against New Jersey and Washington's at Buffalo scheduled for Thursday and Saturday were already postponed because of breakouts on the Devils and Sabres.

UNDATED (AP) — The Pittsburgh Penguins are under new management.

The team has hired Ron Hextall as general manager and veteran NHL executive Brian Burke as president of hockey operations.

Hextall previously was GM of the Flyers. He replaces Hall of Famer Jim Rutherford, who resigned abruptly two weeks ago.

— Blue Jackets center Mikko Koivu (MEE'-koh KOY'-voo) has decided to retire in the midst of his 16th NHL season, saying he couldn't elevate his level of play. He spent the first 10 days of the season on the COVID-19 list and then had a goal and an assist in seven games with the Blue Jackets.

Super Bowl had smallest TV audience since 2006

NEW YORK (AP) — Sunday's Super Bowl between Tampa Bay and Kansas City had the smallest television audience for the big game since 2006. 

Nielsen estimated that 92 million people watched and CBS said the total audience swelled to 96.4 million when you add in people who streamed the game. It was nowhere near the 2015 record of 114.4 million viewers. 

MLB players to wear electronic tracers, face discipline

NEW YORK (AP) — Major League Baseball has updated its protocols to quell the coronavirus pandemic.

Players, on-field staff and non-playing personnel who require access to ballparks must wear electronic tracing devices from the start of spring training or face discipline for violations. 

MLB and the union extended last year's experimental use of seven-inning doubleheaders and runners on second base at the start of extra innings. Active rosters will return to 26 from opening day through Aug. 31 and 28 for the rest of the regular season.

UNDATED (AP) — Free agent right-hander Chris Archer has finalized a one-year, $6.5 million contract that reunites him with the Tampa Bay Rays.

The 32-year-old Archer missed all of the pandemic-shortened 2020 season after surgery to relieve symptoms of neurogenic thoracic outlet syndrome last June. The two-time AL All-Star is 60-80 with a 3.86 ERA in 212 appearances, including 210 starts.

— A person familiar with the negotiations tells The Associated Press that infielder Jonathan Villar (vee-AHR') has agreed to a one-year, $3.55 million package with the Mets. Villar split last season between Miami and Toronto, batting .232 with two homers and 15 RBIs in 185 at-bats. 

— Jordan Zimmermann has inked a minor league deal with the Brewers. Zimmermann pitched in just three games for the Tigers last season due to a forearm injury after going 1-13 with a 6.91 ERA in 2019. 

— The Angels have signed outfielder Juan Lagares and utilityman Phil Gosselin to minor league deals with invitations to spring training.

In the Boys game, Hutchinson trailed 12-7 at the end of one quarter of play and only trailed by 4 at the half, but jumped on the back of Sr. Myles Thompson who had a monster game with 33 points before losing the the #1 team in 5A, 64-60.

A 5-year-old girl, identified by the Chiefs as Ariel Young, remained in critical condition on Tuesday. The Chiefs said the team has contacted the girl's family and is offering support and resources to them. Andy Reid said this week that Britt underwent surgery after the crash.&nbsp;

Friends have established a <a href="https://www.gofundme.com/f/5-year-old-ariel-medical-expenses">GoFundMe</a> page to raise funds to pay the medical expenses for Ariel.

Andy Reid said Sunday night that his “heart bleeds” for those injured in the crash involving his son.

The crash occurred&nbsp; two days before the Chiefs were due to leave for the Super Bowl in Tampa, Florida. A vehicle had run out of gas on a highway entrance ramp and another vehicle had parked nearby to assist when the younger Reid’s pickup truck struck the left front of the first car before hitting the rear of the second car.

Britt Reid told police he had “two or three drinks” and had a prescription for Adderall when the accident occurred, according to a search warrant filed late Thursday night.&nbsp;

Britt Reid has been in legal trouble several times.

He was arrested in January 2007 in Pennsylvania a road-rage incident in which he pointed a gun at another driver, and he was sentenced to up to 23 months in jail and five years of probation after pleading guilty to charges of carrying an unlicensed firearm, simple assault, possession of a controlled substance and possession of an instrument of crime.

Seven months later, Reid was arrested and charged with driving under the influence, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to up to six months in jail.

Reid appeared to get his life on track, beginning his coaching career as an intern for his father with the Eagles in 2009. He spent the next two years as a graduate assistant at Temple, his alma mater, before joining the staff in Kansas City.

After two seasons as a defensive quality control coach, Reid was promoted to assistant defensive line coach. He then spent three seasons as the defensive line coach before shifting to outside linebackers for the past two seasons.

His father refused to say the traffic accident near Arrowhead Stadium last week had anything to do with the outcome of the Super Bowl.

Salthawks host Salina South tonight at the SAC

Charlotte, NC (AP) — Marty Schottenheimer, who won 200 regular-season games with four NFL teams thanks to his “Martyball” brand of smash-mouth football but regularly fell short in the playoffs, has died. He was 77. Family friend Bob Moore says Schottenheimer died late Monday night at a hospice in Charlotte, North Carolina. 

He was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2014. He was moved to a hospice on Jan. 30. Schottenheimer was the eighth-winningest coach in NFL history. 

He went 200-126-1 in 21 seasons with the Cleveland Browns, Kansas City Chiefs, Washington Redskins and San Diego Chargers.

The Chiefs named Schottenheimer head coach on January 24, 1989. He won 101 games and lost 58 during his ten seasons in Kansas City.

His success was rooted in “Martyball,” a conservative approach that featured a strong running game and tough defense.

The 38-year-old Molina hit .262 with four home runs in 42 games during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, his last under a $60 million, three-year deal.&nbsp;

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State coach Matt Campbell has agreed to a new eight-year contract through 2028 after leading the Cyclones to the Big 12 championship game last season. The school did not release terms of the contract. The Cyclones are coming off their most successful season in school history. They were 9-3 overall and first in the Big 12 at 8-1. They lost to Oklahoma in the conference championship game, then beat Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl. Iowa State also agreed to provide Campbell a total of $3 million for staff salary enhancements over the next three years.

LINCOLN, Neb. (AP) — Former LSU safeties coach Bill Busch will return to Nebraska as a defensive analyst. Busch is one of three staff hires announced Monday by coach Scott Frost. Marcus Castro-Walker will join the Cornhuskers as director of player development after four years at Arizona State. Keanon Lowe was hired as an offensive analyst after working as an analyst at UCLA last season. Busch had two previous four-year stints at Nebraska. He was as an assistant coach under Bill Callahan from 2004-07 and a graduate assistant under Tom Osborne from 1990-93.

UNDATED (AP) — The top-ranked Iowa wrestling program is pausing all in-person activities in response to positive COVID-19 test results within the program, forcing the postponement of a dual meet at Penn State scheduled for Friday. The move by Iowa came at the direction of the university's medical team. School officials said the university will continue to follow Big Ten Conference medical protocols and the medical team will decide when the Hawkeyes can resume their season. The schools say they will work with the conference to consider rescheduling options. &nbsp;

UNDATED (AP) — Devin Booker scored a season-high 36 points, Mikal Bridges added 22 and the Phoenix Suns rallied in the fourth quarter to beat the Cleveland Cavaliers 119-113. The Suns have won six of their past seven games while the Cavaliers have dropped four straight. 

Booker propelled the Suns to victory this time by making 14 of 27 shots, including 5 3-pointers. The teams went back and forth down the stretch until Bridges hit two free throws to give the Suns a 117-113 lead with 17.2 seconds left. Collin Sexton led the Cavs with 23 points while Darius Garland had 17.

— LeBron James had 28 points, 14 rebounds and 12 assists for his third triple-double of the season, and the Los Angeles Lakers defeated the Oklahoma City Thunder 119-112 in overtime to win their fifth in a row. The Lakers dominated overtime after trailing much of the game. They outscored the Thunder 9-2 in the extra session. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander narrowly missed matching James' triple-double. He finished with 29 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds. 

— Khris Middleton had 29 points and a career-high 12 assists, Giannis Antetokounmpo (YAH'-nihs an-teh-toh-KOON'-poh) scored 30 points and the Milwaukee Bucks won their fifth straight game by beating the Denver Nuggets 125-112. Middleton's 12th assist was on a pinpoint pass to Antetokounmpo for a dunk with 1:39 remaining to give the Bucks a 120-110 lead. Bryn Forbes had 15 points for the Bucks as they earned a rare win in the Mile High City. Milwaukee improved to 10-40 all-time at Denver. Nikola Jokic (NEE'-koh-lah YOH'-kich) finished with 35 points and 12 rebounds in a showdown with Antetokounmpo. 

— Dejounte Murray had 27 points, 10 rebounds and eight steals, DeMar DeRozan had 21 points and 10 assists, and the San Antonio Spurs beat the Golden State Warriors 105-100. Stephen Curry had 32 points and Kelly Oubre (OO'-bray) Jr. added 24 points for Golden State, which was without injured centers James Wiseman and Kevon Looney. Murray hit a step-back, 23-foot 3-pointer with 12.6 seconds remaining that gave the Spurs a 101-97 lead. Curry responded after a timeout with his own fall-away 3-pointer. DeRozan closed out the game by making four straight free throws. The teams will meet again tonight in San Antonio.

— Kristaps Porzingis had 27 points, 13 rebounds and six blocks, Luka Doncic scored 26 points and the Dallas Mavericks held off the Minnesota Timberwolves 127-122. Tim Hardaway added 24 points off the bench as the Mavericks won their second straight at home after a six-game skid at the American Airlines Center. They led by 25 in the second quarter before the Timberwolves pulled within 123-120 with 50 seconds left. Malik Beasley tied a season high with 30 points, 27 in the second half, and rookie Anthony Edwards added 22 for the Timberwolves, who finished a five-game road trip 1-4.

— LaMelo Ball made a career-high seven 3-pointers and finished with 24 points, 10 assists and seven rebounds, and the Charlotte Hornets beat the short-handed Houston Rockets 119-94 for their second straight win. Miles Bridges had another strong outing with 19 points and 10 rebounds, and Gordon Hayward added 19 points for the Hornets, who opened the fourth quarter on a 19-1 run to blow open a tight game. Victor Oladipo (oh-lah-DEE'-poh) had 21 points for the Rockets, who lost for only the third time in 10 games. The Rockets played without John Wall, Eric Gordon and Christian Wood.

— Fred VanVleet and Pascal Siakam each scored 32 points and the Toronto Raptors put together a second-half rally to beat the Memphis Grizzlies 128-113. Norman Powell added 29 for the Raptors, who began their rally after the ejection of coach Nick Nurse in the third quarter. VanVleet also had nine assists. Jonas Valanciunas (YOH'-nuhs val-uhn-CHOO'-nuhs) led Memphis with 27 points and a season-high 20 rebounds. 

—Bradley Beal scored 35 points and the Washington Wizards held on for a rare win, beating the Chicago Bulls 105-101. Beal, the NBA's leading scorer, hit three free throws in the final 9.8 seconds. Rui Hachimura added 19 points and a season-high 10 rebounds on his 23rd birthday. The Wizards won for just the sixth time in 21 games this season even though they rested Russell Westbrook. Zach LaVine led Chicago with 35 points.

Bulls' Markkanen out 2-4 weeks with sprained right shoulder

CHICAGO (AP) — The Chicago Bulls expect forward Lauri Markkanen to miss two to four weeks because of a sprained right shoulder. The Bulls say an MRI confirmed he has a sprained acromioclavicular joint. Markkanen was hurt Friday at Orlando when he was fouled by Magic forward Gary Clark early in the third quarter. Markkanen is averaging a career-high 19.1 points and 6.1 rebounds coming off a disappointing season. 

— The Brooklyn Nets have made another addition to their frontcourt by signing Noah Vonleh. The 6-foot-10 forward has played for six previous teams after being the No. 9 pick in the 2014 draft by Charlotte. He has averaged 5.0 points and 5.2 rebounds in 335 games. 

— Indiana Pacers assistant coach Bill Bayno has resigned. The 58-year-old Bayno says he's stepping away because of personal and health reasons. The longtime NBA assistant joined Indiana's staff in 2016 and was a holdover from former coach Nate McMillan's staff. He went 94-60 in five seasons as the head coach at UNLV.

Roslovic scores late goal, Blue Jackets beat Hurricanes 3-2

UNDATED (AP) — Jack Roslovic scored the tiebreaking goal late in the third period, Joonas Korpisalo had 22 saves and the Columbus Blue Jackets beat the Carolina Hurricanes 3-2. Columbus earned a split of the teams' back-to-back series. 

Scott Harrington and Cam Atkinson also scored for the Blue Jackets, who weren't sharp for much of the night but still got their second win in three games. With the score tied 2-2, Roslovic split two defenders and beat Alex Nedeljkovic with a backhand with 4:36 left. Nino Niederreiter and Brock McGinn scored for the Hurricanes, who lost for the third time in 10 games.

Islanders coach Barry Trotz earned his 850th victory, passing Ken Hitchcock for third place on the NHL's career list. Igor Shesterkin stopped 28 shots, but the Rangers' four-game point streak ended.

— Auston Matthews and Alexander Kerfoot scored in an 11-second span in the third period and the Toronto Maple Leafs beat the Vancouver Canucks 3-1. Morgan Rielly also scored for Toronto. — Tyler Ennis scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period and goaltender Mike Smith made 27 saves in his season debut as the Edmonton Oilers beat the Ottawa Senators 3-1. Josh Archibald scored into the empty net with 1:10 remaining after Connor McDavid won the puck in his own end. Leon Draisaitl also scored for Edmonton. Evgenii Dadonov scored for Ottawa.

— Anthony Cirelli scored two goals for Tampa Bay, and the Lightning beat the Nashville Predators 3-1 for their fifth straight victory. The defending Stanley Cup champs extended the NHL's longest winning streak even with goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy getting his first night off this season. Curtis McElhinney started in net and made 22 saves for the win. Blake Coleman and Steven Stamkos each scored an empty-net goal in the final 98 seconds. Nashville's Dante Fabbro scored his first goal of the season on the man advantage at 11:08 of the third.

TORONTO (AP) — The NHL-leading Toronto Maple Leafs will be without Wayne Simmonds until mid-March. The team announced that the bruising winger is set to miss six weeks after suffering a broken wrist in Saturday's 5-1 victory over the Vancouver Canucks. The Toronto native scored five times in his last six outings. 

TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Fresh off their Super Bowl win, the Buccaneers are already looking at next season. Tom Brady's coming back. So is Bruce Arians. But the challenge of attempting a repeat begins with trying to keep some key components together for next season. Brady threw three touchdowns passes on the way to claiming a record seventh NFL title with a 31-9 rout of the Kansas City Chiefs — two to Rob Gronkowski and one Antonio Brown. Both played on one-year contracts after being lured to Tampa Bay by Brady. Leonard Fournette ran for the team's other TD. He also joined the Bucs on a one-year deal.

— The Pittsburgh Steelers have hired longtime NFL assistant Mike Sullivan as their new quarterbacks coach. The move is one of three made by the team to fill coaching vacancies. Sullivan replaces Matt Canada, who was promoted to offensive coordinator last month. Sullivan is a 16-year NFL coaching veteran, winning two Super Bowl rings with the New York Giants.

— The Chicago Bears promoted John DeFilippo to pass game coordinator while keeping him in his role as quarterbacks coach. DeFilippo joined coach Matt Nagy's staff last season. He was the offensive coordinator for Minnesota during the 2018 season and Jacksonville in 2019 before he was fired, and he previously worked for seven other NFL teams.

No. 4 Ohio State gets defensive in 73-65 win over Maryland

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Kyle Young and Duane Washington Jr. each scored 18 points, and No. 4 Ohio State used a relentless defensive effort to wear down Maryland in a 73-65 victory. The Buckeyes limited Maryland to 40% shooting and a 5-for-19 performance from beyond the arc. That, along with 10 3-pointers on the offensive end, was enough to get Ohio State its fifth straight victory. Aaron Wiggins scored 17 points and Eric Ayala had 13 for the Terrapins.

WACO, Texas (AP) — The No. 2 Baylor men's basketball team has postponed three more games because of COVID-19 issues and won't play again until at least Feb. 20. Postponed are next Saturday's home game against No. 7 Texas Tech, then two games next week at No. 14 West Virginia. 

— The Atlantic Coast Conference postponed Miami's men's basketball game basketball game on Monday night at North Carolina. The postponement follows a meeting of officials from both schools who concluded the game could not be played. The Daily Tar Heel student newspaper reported Monday that video had surfaced on social media of UNC players Armando Bacot and Day'Ron Sharpe mingling with multiple other people celebrating Saturday's win against rival Duke and no one wearing a mask.

ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) — Shohei Ohtani (SHOH'-hay oh-TAH'-nee) agreed to a two-year, $8.5 million contract with the Los Angeles Angels, avoiding arbitration. The two-way player will make $3 million in 2021 and $5.5 million in 2022. Both years are guaranteed. The 2018 AL Rookie of the Year struggled at the plate last season and on the mound in his return from Tommy John surgery. Ohtani batted .190 with seven homers and 24 RBIs in 175 plate appearances.

— The Los Angeles Angels have acquired right-hander Aaron Slegers from Tampa Bay for cash or a player to be named. The 6-foot-10 Slegers mostly pitched in long relief for the AL champion Rays last season. He went at least two innings in nine of his 11 appearances while compiling a 3.46 ERA. He allowed just five earned runs over 24 innings in his final 10 appearances, and kept up the strong work with a 1.80 ERA in three playoff outings covering five innings. 

— The St. Louis Cardinals are bringing back catcher Yadier Molina (YAH'-dee-ehr moh-LEE'-nah) for an 18th season, agreeing to a $9 million, one-year deal with the nine-time Gold Glove winner. The team announced the move in a statement, saying it would provide more details on the deal Tuesday. The 38-year-old Molina hit .262 with four home runs in 42 games during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season, his last under a $60 million, three-year deal. 

— Left-hander Sean Doolittle and the Cincinnati Reds have finalized a $1.5 million, one-year contract. Cincinnati also announced a minor league deal with infielder Dee Strange-Gordon, who will report to big league spring training. The 34-year-old Doolittle had been with Washington since July 2017 and helped the Nationals win their first World Series title in 2019. The two-time All-Star was 0-2 with a 5.87 ERA in 7 2/3 innings over 11 relief appearances during the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. The 32-year-old Strange-Gordon spent the past three seasons with Seattle and hit .200 in 75 at-bats last year. 

— Seven-inning doubleheaders and runners on second base to start extra innings will return as experiments for a second straight season under an agreement for 2021 health protocols reached Monday between Major League Baseball and the players' association. The deal did not include last year's experimental rule to extend the designated hitter to the National League or expanded playoffs. After allowing 16 teams in the postseason last year instead of 10, MLB has proposed 14 for this year before withdrawing that plan last month. Last year's expanded playoffs agreement did not come together until hours before the season's first pitch.

Iowa State gives Matt Campbell new contract through 2028

AMES, Iowa (AP) — Iowa State coach Matt Campbell has agreed to a new eight-year contract through 2028 after leading the Cyclones to the Big 12 championship game last season. 

The school did not release terms of the contract. The Cyclones are coming off their most successful season in school history. They were 9-3 overall and first in the Big 12 at 8-1. They lost to Oklahoma in the conference championship game, then beat Oregon in the Fiesta Bowl. Iowa State also agreed to provide Campbell a total of $3 million for staff salary enhancements over the next three years.

— Washington State starting quarterback Jayden de Laura has been suspended from the team after his arrest in Pullman, Washington, on suspicion of driving under the influence. The Spokesman-Review reports that the 19-year-old de Laura was arrested on a misdemeanor DUI charge early Saturday. According to police, de Laura was pulled over at 2:13 a.m. after driving through a stop sign and subsequently driving the wrong way. De Laura won the starting quarterback job as a freshman last fall.

MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) — American 16-year-old Coco Gauff is into the second round at the Australian Open.

Gauff advanced by beating Jil Teichmann of Switzerland 6-3, 6-2. The youngest player in the tournament, Gauff served out the first set with three aces in the final game and gained momentum from there. Ranked 48th, Gauff faces a tough second-round opponent in No. 5-seeded Elina Svitolina, who also won her opening match.

— Sofia Kenin struggled in her first match as a defending champion at a Grand Slam tournament. The 22-year-old from Florida dealt with jitters at the Australian Open even though she was facing an opponent who's never won a tour-level match. Eventually Kenin managed to beat 133rd-ranked Australian wild-card entry Maddison Inglis 7-5, 6-4 on Day 2 at Melbourne Park.

— Seventeen-year-old Carlos Alcaraz of Spain was impressive in his highly anticipated Grand Slam debut match, defeating Dutch qualifier Botic Van de Zandschulp in the first round of the Australian Open 6-1, 6-4, 6-4. The 141st-ranked Alcaraz has been compared to Rafael Nadal and is coached by former No. 1 Juan Carlos Ferrero.

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;The Kansas Jayhawks caught fire in the second half and knocked off No. 23 Oklahoma State, 78-66, on Monday, as the Jayhawks improve to 44-1 in ESPN Big Monday games inside Allen Fieldhouse.

With the victory, Kansas improved to 13-7 overall and 7-5 in Big 12 play, while Oklahoma State drops to 12-6 overall and 5-6 in Big 12 play.

Kansas had five players in double figures and three Jayhawks recorded a double-double for the first time since February 2009 against TCU. Leading the way was junior David McCormack with 23 points and 10 rebounds. Senior Marcus Garrett had 17 points, sophomore Christian Braun had 15 points and 10 rebounds, redshirt-freshman Jalen Wilson dropped 11 points, and grabbed 11 rebounds, and junior Ochai Agbaji had 10 points.

It was a tail of two halves for the Jayhawks. As a team KU shot 10-31 (32.3%) from the field and 2-8 (25%) from beyond the arc in the first half. However, they found their rhythm in the second half shooting 13-25 (52%) from the field and 3-7 (42.9%) from 3-point range. Overall, KU was 23-56 (41.1%) from the field and 5-15 (33.3%) from 3-point range.

The game got off to a slow start for both teams. The Jayhawks would turn to their senior guard as Garrett had 10 of his 17 points in the first half to keep Kansas in the game. With three minutes left in the first half Wilson hit a jump shot to give Kansas a two-point lead, one the Jayhawks would hold onto for the remainder of the game.

Immediately out of the break the Jayhawks turned to their big man McCormack. McCormack was 1-of-6 shooting in the first half, but shook that off with a 21-point second half performance.

The Jayhawks refused to give up their lead as the closest the Cowboys could get was three points. Late in the second half Kansas went on a 7-0 run to extend their lead to 15 points, its largest lead of the night.
