WICHITA, Kan.&nbsp;-- Wichita State right-handed pitcher&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/baseball/roster/clark-candiotti/7475">Clark Candiotti</a>&nbsp;was selected to the American Athletic Conference Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday. This is the third Honor Roll selection of the season for Candiotti, who was also honored on March 13 and March 27. Candiotti was brilliant in Wichita State's series-opening win against Cincinnati on Friday, allowing just two hits and one run over six excellent innings to pick up his third victory of the season. Candiotti retired the first 12 Bearcats he faced, finishing his day with seven strikeouts to just two walks.Wichita State's Friday night starter has been on a tear as of late; over his last four starts, Candiotti is 3-0 with a 1.88 ERA, allowing only five earned runs in 24 innings. He has struck out 32 during that stretch (12.0 strikeouts per nine innings), while walking seven and allowing 17 hits. For the season, Candiotti is now 3-2 with a 3.38 ERA over seven starts spanning 37.1 innings.&nbsp;&nbsp;

McKinney had back-to-back games with three hits, and recorded her first career grand slam in Wichita State's 14-0 win vs. South Florida on Saturday. Over the weekend McKinney ran her career hit total to 345, moving into a tie for 18th all-time in the NCAA record book. 🥎 SB: McKinney takes home AAC Player of the Week honors

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;Kansas Athletics and K Club will honor Jayhawk greats Tony Sands and Nick Reid by inducting the duo into the Kansas football Ring of Honor at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium during Kansas’ October 7 game against UCF.

The Ring of Honor is the highest honor bestowed upon Kansas football letterwinners, with Sands and Reid becoming the 24th&nbsp;and 25th&nbsp;members to be inducted into the Ring of Honor.

Since coming to Lawrence, I have learned more and more about the great impact that both Tony and Nick have had on Kansas Football and their pride of being a Jayhawk. Both helped leave Kansas better than they found it and have provided an example for our current players, who are working hard to do the same. Nick and Tony both had the characteristics as players that we want our current team to have. I am excited for both of them and their families to be able to celebrate their careers and have their names inducted into the Ring of Honor on October 7.

Sands, a standout running back from 1988-91, amassed 3,788 rushing yards on 778 attempts and 28 touchdowns throughout his Jayhawk career, which all stood as school records upon his departure. In his final game in a KU uniform, Sands set the FBS record for rushing attempts (58) and rushing yards (396) in a 53-29 victory over Missouri on November 23, 1991, which still stands as KU’s single game rushing record.

Sands, a native of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, was the 1991 Big Eight Conference Offensive Player of the Year and was named Third Team All-America by the Associated Press.

Sands currently ranks second in school history in career rushing yards and rushing attempts. Throughout his career, Sands rushed for 100+ yards 17 times, which is the most in school history.

“It means the world to me, and not only me but to every teammate that had a part in it. It is unbelievable to have this recognition and to know that my name is going to be in the stadium up amongst the greats. When I go into the Ring of Honor, that means everyone that took part in my success goes in and that just means the world to me.”

Reid starred for the Jayhawks at linebacker from 2002-05, starting 40 games and playing in 48 in a Jayhawk uniform. A native of Derby, Reid totaled 416 tackles throughout his Kansas career, which ranks second in school history, while his 40.0 tackles-for-loss ranks fourth.

In 2005, Reid became the first Jayhawk to be named Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He is still the only KU player to ever receive the award. Reid was also named Third Team All-America by the Associated Press following his senior season.

Reid was a three-time All-Big 12 selection over his career, leading the Jayhawks in tackles in three consecutive seasons (2003-05). Along with his 416 career tackles and 40.0 tackles-for-loss, Reid finished his KU career with 14.0 sacks, three interceptions and six forced fumbles.

"I am truly honored to be getting this recognition, but I know for a fact, it wouldn’t have happened without my teammates. To think that my children will be able to take my grandchildren to Memorial Stadium and see my name in the Ring of Honor is more than I could have ever dreamt about. I am forever grateful to be a Jayhawk. Rock Chalk!"

Reid was a part of two bowl teams at Kansas, including the 2005 Fort Worth Bowl Champions and the 2003 Mazda Tangerine Bowl.

Sands and Reid will be joining Gilbert Brown, Larry Brown, Anthony Collins, Nolan Cromwell, Bobby Douglass, Ray Evans, John Hadl, Chris Harris Jr., David Jaynes, Bruce Kallmeyer, Curtis McClinton, Mike McCormack, George Mrkonic, Willie Pless, Todd Reesing, Gil Reich, Gale Sayers, Otto Schnellbacher, Oliver Spencer, Darrell Stuckey, John Riggins, Aqib Talib and John Zook in the Kansas football Ring of Honor.

🏈 Sands, Reid to be inducted into Kansas Football Ring of Honor in 2023

HOUSTON (AP)&nbsp;— After six games and 240 minutes of pure dominance that ran through March, then part of April, it finally became clear there was only one thing that could stop the UConn Huskies.

The team from Storrs, Connecticut, topped off one of the most impressive March Madness runs in history Monday night, clamping down early, then breaking things open late to bring home its fifth national title with a 76-59 victory over San Diego State.

"We knew we were the best team in the tournament going in, and we just had to play to our level," said&nbsp;<a href="https://uconnhuskies.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/coaches/dan-hurley/1049">Dan Hurley</a>, who joined Jim Calhoun and Kevin Ollie as the third coach to lead UConn to a title.

UConn's lanky star forward,&nbsp;<a href="https://uconnhuskies.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/adama-sanogo/12464">Adama Sanogo</a>, won Most Outstanding Player honors, finishing with 17 points and 10 rebounds in the final, and&nbsp;<a href="https://uconnhuskies.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/tristen-newton/12466">Tristen Newton</a>&nbsp;also had a double-double with 19 points and 10 boards.

The Huskies (31-8) became the fifth team&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/march-madness?utm_source=apnewsnav&amp;utm_medium=featured">since the bracket expanded</a>&nbsp;in 1985 to win all six NCAA Tournament games by double-digits on the way to a championship. They won those six games by an average of an even 20 points, only a fraction less than what North Carolina did in sweeping to the title in 2009.

UConn built a 16-point lead late in the first half, only to see the Aztecs (32-7) trim it to five with 5:19 left. But&nbsp;<a href="https://uconnhuskies.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/jordan-hawkins/12459">Jordan Hawkins</a>&nbsp;(16 points), — whose cousin, Angel Reese of LSU, won MOP honors in the women's tournament — answered with a 3 to trigger a 9-0 run. From there, the only drama left was whether UConn would cover the 7 1/2-point spread and go six for six with double-digit wins.

Keshad Johnson scored 14 points for&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/march-madness-final-four-fab-five-aztecs-uconn-f3d5ef6dde60d77de6f993ecd382772b">San Diego State</a>, which came up one win shy in this, its first trip to the Final Four. Darrion Trammell and Lamont Butler, he of buzzer-beater fame in the semifinal against Florida Atlantic, had 13 apiece.

San Diego State coach Brian Dutcher was an assistant with Michigan back in the Fab Five days, when the Wolverines lost in the final two years in a row. Now, he's 0 for 3 in the big one. One of the Fab Five, current Wolverines coach Juwan Howard, was there to console his former coach.

"We had to be at our best. We weren't at our best," Dutcher said. "A lot had to do with UConn."

UConn, the favorite and best-seeded team at No. 4 for this Final Four full of underdogs, set the stage for this win over an 11:07 stretch in the first half during which the Aztecs didn't make a basket. Unable to shoot over or go around this tall, long UConn team, they missed 14 straight shots from the floor.

They went from leading by four to trailing by 11, and when they weren't getting shots blocked (<a href="https://uconnhuskies.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster/alex-karaban/12525">Alex Karaban</a>&nbsp;had three and Sanogo had one) or altered on the inside, they were coming up short — a telltale sign of a team that was out of hops after that draining 72-71 buzzer-beater win two nights earlier.

UConn fan Bill Murray, whose son is an assistant for the Huskies, was one of the few celebrities on hand to watch them make it five for five in title games. This one&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/final-four-nantz-farewell-cbs-9e924c141b8baa7b4551be18906d2e02">marked the last that Jim Nantz would call</a>&nbsp;after 37 years behind the mic.

"The one thing I learned through all of this is, everybody has a dream and everybody has a story to tell. Just tried to find that story. Be kind," Nantz said as part of his final sign-off from the Final Four.

He's had a lot of UConn stories to tell over the years, though this certainly wasn't the most dramatic.

Even with that brief bout of uncertainty midway through the second half, UConn never truly let the fifth-seeded Aztecs, who overcame a 14-point deficit in the semifinal, start thinking about any more last-second dramatics.

This was a team built strictly for 2023 — replenished by Hurley, who didn't get much love in the preseason, even&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/ncaa-championship-uconn-san-diego-state-transfers-9a7deb04b97f310f2fb4526f56e9e067">after he went to the transfer portal</a>&nbsp;to find more outside shooting after back-to-back first-round exits in the tournament.

"We weren't ranked going into the year, so we had the chip on our shoulder," Hurley said. "We knew the level that we could play at, even through those dark times."

Despite the new-age roster building, there was something decidedly old-school about the way the Huskies took care of business in the early going.

They didn't even think much about 3-point shooting at the start — didn't make one until more than 13 minutes into the game — instead skip passing into Sanogo on the post and wearing down SDSU while building the early lead.

The Aztecs were too good a team to cave, and an over-pursuing defense is what triggered the late run to within five. But team built on defense finished the game only shooting 32% from the floor.

"We cut it to five. I think there were people in the stands that thought, 'Hey, they're capable of doing it again,' and we were," Dutcher said. "But we ran into too good of a team."

UConn's latest coronation makes Hurley the third coach to bring a trophy home to Storrs. He joins Calhoun (1999, 2004, 2001) and Ollie (2014).

And Sanogo —&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/ncaa-championship-uconn-san-diego-state-782bd15323bda90f2b664653cae99e6e">make that Adama</a>&nbsp;— adds himself to others on a first-name basis up on that campus — UConn legends like Kemba (Walker), Rip (Hamilton) and Emeka (Okafor). Sanogo averaged 19.7 points and 9.8 rebounds over UConn's six-game cruise through the tournament.

The ending of a 12-game win streak dropped the Hutchinson Community College softball team two spots to No. 15 in the latest NJCAA Division I softball rankings, which were released Monday.

The Blue Dragons, 28-5 overall this season, split their doubleheader Saturday at Colby, falling 7-6 in game one and bouncing back to win game two 8-5. Ranked No. 13 last week in the national poll, the Blue Dragons had won 12 straight games dating back to the doubleheader split at home against the Butler Grizzlies on March 4. The Blue Dragons have been on the road since March 11.

Following this weekend, the Blue Dragons and the now-No. 16 Grizzlies (25-7 overall) are tied for first in the Jayhawk Conference with a league record of 16-2.

The two league leaders meet in El Dorado for a doubleheader at 1p.m. Wednesday at East Park, which will wrap up a four-doubleheader road trip for the Blue Dragons.

Florida Southwestern is the No. 1 team in the nation for the second week in a row. Grayson follows suit at No. 2, and Northwest Florida State is No. 3. Odessa leaped from No. 6 to No. 4.

KANSAS CITY, MO. (AP) —&nbsp;&nbsp;Brady Singer pitched five effective innings, MJ Melendez hit a two-run homer and the Kansas City Royals broke loose early to beat the Toronto Blue Jays 9-5 on Monday night for their first victory of the season.

Nicky Lopez had a two-run triple and Bobby Witt Jr. delivered a pair of RBI singles as the Royals opened a 7-0 lead in the fourth against José Berríos and gave Matt Quatraro his first win as manager.

“They dumped some champagne on me, sprayed it in my face, turned out the lights,” Quatraro said.

“The first one’s always the hardest,” Lopez said. “We showered him for his first win. He deserves it. It’s fun playing for him.”

Singer (1-0) allowed just two hits — doubles by Matt Chapman — with three walks and three strikeouts.

“He came out firing,” Quatraro said. “It seemed like every pitch he threw was a strike and the (velocity) was up. He had really good command of the two-seamer.”

Singer is 7-0 with a 1.68 ERA in his last 10 starts at Kauffman Stadium dating to June 26 last year.

“I felt good,” he said. “The fastball had some good life. The velo was pretty good all game. The slider got me out of a few situations. It had some better bite on it tonight.”

Toronto mounted a fifth-inning charge, loading the bases with a double and a pair of walks, but Singer limited the damage with a double-play grounder that scored one run.

Kansas City was shut out twice by Minnesota last weekend while losing its first three games. After entering with a major league-worst .133 batting average, the Royals greeted Berríos (0-1) with four first-inning hits, producing three runs and their first lead of the season.

“To do it early, to let them relax a little, and then to add on was a big plus,” Quatraro said. “(The hitters) were well prepared. Listening to what they were saying about how Berríos was going to pitch and what they were looking for.”

Berríos went 5 2/3 innings in his season debut, allowing eight runs on nine hits and striking out seven.

Lopez’s two-run triple highlighted a four-run fourth as Kansas City expanded its lead to 7-0.

“We came out swinging,” Lopez said. “Sometimes you can start off slow. Just come in every day and work your tail off, and that’s what we do.”

WICHITA, Kan. –&nbsp;Wichita State softball and Wilkins Stadium will host the 2024 American Athletic Conference Championship, it was announced by the league Monday morning. Wichita State will have invested more than $2 million into renovations to Wilkins Stadium which includes new lights, batting cages, outfield turf and third base dugout. Turf is scheduled to be installed in the outfield and on the warning track, foul territory and apron areas at Wilkins Stadium this summer. The tournament will come to Wichita for the first time as a member of the American. Wichita State hasn't hosted a conference tournament since 2015 when the Shockers were still in the Missouri Valley Conference. It will only be the fifth time ever Wichita State softball has served as the host site for a conference championship. "I am excited and grateful to host the AAC tournament in 2024," said head coach&nbsp;<a href="https://goshockers.com/sports/softball/roster/coaches/kristi-bredbenner/1072">Kristi Bredbenner</a>. "This is a testament to the investment that Wichita State University and the athletic department have made in the softball program. 🥎 SB: Wichita State to host 2024 American Athletic Conference Championship

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Buhler boys and girls bowling coach Skip Willson has been named the 4-1A bowling coach of the year by the Kansas High School Bowling Association.&nbsp; 

Wilson has been the coach at Buhler for 10 years and this is the 4th time he's been honored as coach of the year.&nbsp; 

Wilson won girls state titles at Buhler in 2012 and 2019.&nbsp; In Kansas, classes 5-1A compete&nbsp;together, or Buhler would have many more titles as a stand alone 4A school.&nbsp; &nbsp;

Skip also won a national championship as a player with Wichita State in 1980, the first national championship of 12 for the Shocker men's bowling team.

🎳 BOWL: Wilson named Coach of the Year

KANSAS CITY, MO. (AP) — Joey Gallo hit two home runs, Joe Ryan gave up one run over six innings and the Minnesota Twins completed a sweep of the Kansas City Royals with a 7-4 victory on Sunday.

Gallo hit his first home run of the game in the sixth inning and in the next frame belted a three-run blast over the right field bullpen to extend the Twins' lead to 6-1. It was his 16th career multi-homer game.

“Obviously, you want to start off well and it's really early, but I wanted to help my team and I felt like I wasn't contributing as much as I wanted to the first couple of games, but it's good to have a good day today,” Gallo said. “We've been working a lot and even worked after the game for like 30 to 45 minutes yesterday with all the hitting coaches. I've been feeling pretty good, so hopeful keep that going.”

After failing to score in the first two games of the season, the Royals finally got a run in the second inning on Edward Olivares' homer. That broke a 19-inning scoreless streak — the team's longest drought to start a season in franchise history.

“You hope it is momentum, but tomorrow is a new day," Royals manager Matt Quatraro said. "Just because you don’t get runs one day doesn’t mean you can’t the next and vice versa. These guys are working hard, the mood was good and the work before that game was good so it is not something to be concerned about.”

The home run was the only blemish for Ryan (1-0). He went six innings, struck out six and allowed one earned run, three hits and two walks. Brad Keller (0-1) threw 4 ⅔ innings, giving up two earned runs, five hits, four walks and fanned six.

“As he found his off-speed pitches, the game changed for him,” Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said. “I think he was battling himself for a little bit and probably only had one pitch to work with in the first couple of innings.”

In his first start as a Royal, Matt Duffy hit a two-run homer to left field into the fountains, but it wasn’t enough for Kansas City.

“I think we showed some signs (of offensive momentum) today," Duffy said. "The beginning of the season is tough because everyone is looking for that first hit. Once you get that out of the way, you can settle into the season. It was a tough first couple of games, but adjustments were made, which is what you look for in a young team.”

The Twins swept their opening series for the first time since 2017, when they also did it against Kansas City.

The Kansas City trio of MJ Melendez, Bobby Witt Jr. and Vinnie Pasquantino is a combined 1-for-28 with 10 strikeouts to start its second-year campaigns.

“If those guys are on base, it is easier to score runs," Quatraro said. “If they can get on, we have a better chance of scoring.”

HOUSTON, Texas –&nbsp;Kansas redshirt-junior Jalen Wilson has been named the recipient of the Julius Erving Award honoring the men’s basketball top small forward in NCAA Division I for the 2022-23 season. The Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame announced the honor and its Men’s Starting Five Saturday on ESPN College GameDay which originated from the Final Four in Houston for the announcement.

Named after Class of 1993 Hall of Famer and 16-year professional basketball player Julius Erving, the annual honor in its ninth year.&nbsp; Wilson has been on the Julius Erving Award watch lists since the beginning of the season. He was one of five finalists for the honor that included Brandon Miller (Alabama), Julian Strawther (Gonzaga), Keyontae Johnson (Kansas State) and Jaime Jaquez Jr. (UCLA).

“I am very honored to receive this award,” Wilson said. “Julius Erving is one of the greatest players of all time. I want to congratulate the other finalists on having great seasons. I want to thank Coach Self and the other coaches helping me become the player I am today. More importantly, I want to thank my teammates, my brothers, who pushed me every day. Though we did not achieve our ultimate goal, we did have a great season, winning the Big 12 in the toughest conference in the nation. One of four Naismith Trophy and one of five Wooden Award finalists, Wilson is Kansas’ 32nd&nbsp;all-time Consensus All-America First Team honoree. The unanimous Big 12 Player of the Year and All-Big 12 First Team selection, Wilson led the Big 12 in scoring at 20.1 points per game, rebounds at 8.3 and double-doubles with 12. The Denton, Texas, forward posted three 30-point performances and had 22 games of 20 or more points scored this season, including each of his last seven contests. Wilson is the seventh player in Big 12 history to lead the league in scoring and rebounding in the same season, including the fourth Jayhawk to earn the distinction.

On nearly every national player of the year watch list, Wilson is just the 10th player in Kansas men’s basketball history to record 1,400-plus career points and 800-plus career rebounds and the first since Perry Ellis (2013-16). Wilson’s 1,475 points rank 27th on the KU career list and his 802 rebounds are 14th in school history. Wilson’s 28 career double-doubles are ninth on the KU all-time list.

Dylan Carlson had three hits for the Cardinals in his season debut. Matt Chapman had three hits for Toronto.

The victory made Kim Mulkey the first women’s coach to win national championships at two different schools. She won three at Baylor before leaving for LSU two years ago. Her four titles gave her the third most all-time behind Geno Auriemma’s 11 and Pat Summitt’s eight. Mulkey has never lost in a championship game. Angel Reese had 15 points and 10 rebounds for LSU and was honored as the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. Clark scored 30 points to finish the tournament with 191, breaking Sheryl Swoopes' record of 177 set in 1993.

The dazzling Iowa-born guard still has another season or two remaining with the Hawkeyes because as a 21-year-old junior, she's not eligible for the WBNA draft.

Abbey Hsu led the Lions with 19 points and Kaitlyn Davis scored 13. Hsu finished the season with 606 points, two shy of the program record set by Camille Zimmerman in 2016-17. Columbia won a program-record 28 games this season, three more than its previous best set when the Lions went 25-7 last season.

Dick started all 36 games for the Jayhawks and averaged 14.1 points while shooting better than 40% from 3-point range. He made 83 3-pointers, a program record for a freshman. Kansas lost to Arkansas in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, with Dick scoring just seven points in his finale.

UNDATED (AP) — Grant McCasland is Texas Tech’s new men's basketball coach. The announcement Friday came a day after North Texas won the NIT title to wrap up the school’s first 30-win season. North Texas was 135-65 in six seasons under the 46-year-old McCasland, who has a master’s degree from Texas Tech. During his time on the Lubbock campus from 1999-2001, McCasland served as director of basketball operations for coach James Dickey. That was after McCasland got his undergraduate degree in 1999 from Baylor, where he was listed as a 5-foot-9 walk-on player who got into 47 games over four seasons. He later was an assistant coach for the Bears and coach Scott Drew.

SAN ANTONIO (AP) — Corey Conners won the Valero Texas Open for the second time in five years Sunday for his second PGA Tour title, closing with a 4-under 68 for a one-stroke victory over rookie Sam Stevens. Also the 2019 winner, Conners had a 15-under 273 total on TPC San Antonio’s Oaks Course. The Canadian now heads to the Masters, where he tied sixth last year for his second straight top-10 finish at Augusta National. A shot behind Patrick Rodgers starting play, Conners had a three-shot lead after he birdied No. 15. Stevens eagled the 17th, but missed a 9-foot birdie putt at 18 that would have tied it. Connors ended it with a 3-foot par putt on 18. Stevens shot a 66.

DALLAS (AP) — LSU won its first basketball title in school history, overcoming Caitlin Clark and Iowa 102-85 in the national championship game. The victory made Kim Mulkey the first women's coach to win national championships at two different schools. She won three at Baylor before leaving for LSU two years ago. Her four titles gave her the third most all-time behind Geno Auriemma's 11 and Pat Summitt's eight. Mulkey has never lost in a championship game. Angel Reese had 15 points and 10 rebounds for LSU and was honored as the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. Clark scored 30 points to finish the tournament with 191, breaking Sheryl Swoopes' record of 177 set in 1993.

Kim Mulkey returned home to Louisiana wanting to bring LSU its first basketball championship. The Hall of Fame coach did just that in only her second year at the school.

Her Tigers used a record offensive performance to beat Caitlin Clark and Iowa 102-85 on Sunday and win the first basketball title, men's or women's, in school history.

"I turn around and look at the Final Four banners (in the home arena), nowhere did it say national champion," Mulkey said. "That's what I came home to do."

The victory made Mulkey the first women's coach to win national titles at two different schools. She won three at Baylor before leaving for LSU two years ago.

"Coaches coach a lifetime and this is the fourth time I've been blessed," Mulkey said. "Never in the history of LSU basketball, men or women, has (anybody) ever played for a championship."

The feisty and flamboyantly dressed Mulkey, who wore a sparkly, golden, tiger-striped outfit, now has the third-most national titles behind Geno Auriemma's 11 and Pat Summitt's eight. Mulkey has never lost in a championship game.

"My tears are tears of joy," she said. "I'm so happy for everybody back home in Louisiana."

Clark, The Associated Press national player of the year, couldn't lead the Hawkeyes to their first national title despite one of the greatest individual performances in NCAA Tournament history. The junior finished with 30 points. She scored 40 in the semifinals to knock out unbeaten South Carolina one game after she had the first 40-point triple-double in NCAA history in the Elite Eight.

The dazzling guard set the NCAA record for points in a tournament, passing the 177 that Sheryl Swoopes scored in 1993 en route to leading Texas Tech to the title. Clark ended her tournament with 191.

The 102 points broke the previous high for a championship game, surpassing the 97 that Texas scored against Southern California in 1986.

"So much for preaching defense and rebounding," Mulkey said, laughing.

Taking in the game was first lady Jill Biden, who sat in a suite above the court with tennis great Billie Jean King.

Mulkey said she hadn't met the first lady yet but told the AP that if the team was invited to the White House, she'd go.

Jasmine Carson scored 22 points, Alexis Morris added 21 and Angel Reese had 15 points and 10 rebounds for LSU (34-2).

"It's no one-man show around here. When I go down, the next man is up," said Reese, who was honored as the Most Outstanding Player of the Final Four. "Every single time, every time I go out or Alexis goes out, everybody always comes to step up."

Trailing by 21 points early in the third quarter, Iowa started hitting from the outside to go on a 15-2 run, hitting four 3-pointers and converting a 3-point play to get within 65-57.

The Hawkeyes (31-7) trailed 73-64 with 1:03 left in the third quarter when Clark was called for a technical foul. She swatted the ball away on the floor after a foul call against a teammate. That counted as a personal foul for her, her fourth of the game.

"I thought they called it very, very tight," Clark said. "Hit with a technical foul for throwing the ball under the basket — sometimes that's how things go."

Clark played the entire fourth quarter with four fouls but couldn't get the Hawkeyes much closer.

"They really played well, they were ready to go. They did a great job. I'm just so proud of my team," Iowa coach Lisa Bluder said. "This is brutal, it's really tough to walk out of that locker room today and not be able to coach Monika (Czinano) and McKenna (Warnock) again. I'm very thankful for the season we had and don't want to take anything away from that."

After Katari Poole hit a 3-pointer in front of the LSU bench, Mulkey started weeping.

"With about 1:30 to go, I couldn't hold it. I got very emotional," Mulkey said. "That's not like me, but I knew we would hold on and win this game. I don't what it was, but I lost it. Very emotional and tears of joy. Don't know if it's the mere fact that we're doing it in my second year back home or that I am back home."

A few seconds later after another LSU basket, Reese taunted Clark by putting her hand in front of her face with a "you can't see me" gesture and then pointed to her ring finger.

As the final seconds ticked off, Mulkey and Reese hugged, setting off a wild celebration by the Tigers.

The game was tight for the first 15 minutes before Carson got hot from the outside. She made all six of her shots in the second quarter, including four 3-pointers. After one of them, she threw her hands in the air, which Mulkey mimicked on the sidelines.

For good measure, the graduate student banked in a shot just before the halftime buzzer to give the Tigers a 59-42 lead at the break. It was the most points ever in the first half of a championship game, breaking the record held by Tennessee since 1998.

LSU shot 58% from the field in the opening 20 minutes, including going nine for 12 from behind the arc. The Tigers finished the game shooting 54% from the field, including making 11 of 17 3-pointers.

Clark had 16 points and five assists before picking up her third foul with 3:56 to go in the half, which didn't go over well with the sellout crowd of more than 19,000 fans.

Before Sunday, Carson had gone scoreless in five of her seven postseason games in her career. She had 11 points in this NCAA Tournament before the finale.

"I would definitely say this is the game of my life because I won a national championship on the biggest stage possible in college," Carson said. "When I woke up I just wanted to win — do anything my team needed in this game, whether it was defense, rebounding, supporting them. I scored tonight and that's what pushed us and got us momentum."

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;Kansas earned its first Big 12 series sweep since 2019 with a 5-4 comeback victory against Baylor on Sunday at Hoglund Ballpark. The Jayhawks are now 5-0 at home this season after securing the three-game sweep of the Bears.

Deadlocked at four apiece in the eighth, redshirt sophomore Jake English hit a go-ahead home run to lead off the frame to put KU ahead for good at 5-4.

Kansas led at the start when it took the lead in the first inning for a third straight day. Freshman Jackson Kline singled to lead off the bottom of the first inning. With two outs, junior Cowley Community College transfer Janson Reeder hit an RBI double to score Kline and give Kansas a 1-0 lead.

The lead did not last long as Baylor scored two runs in the top of the second. An RBI groundout from Walter Polk and an RBI single by Cole Tremain put the Bears ahead 2-1.

Kansas evened the game for the first of three times in the third inning. Freshman Kodey Shojinaga hit a two-out RBI double to score sophomore Chase Jans and tie the game at 2-2 after three innings.

Baylor (9-19, 2-7 Big 12) took the lead again in the fifth inning. Kolby Branch hit a solo home run that just stayed fair down the left field line. The blast gave Baylor a 3-2 edge.

The Jayhawks responded again with a two-out RBI single from Kline. Sophomore Luke Leto and English were on first and second when Kline dropped a single in front of the center fielder. Again, the game was tied, this time at 3-3 through six innings.

The Bears scored a run on a two-out RBI double in the top of the seventh to take the lead for a third time. At the seventh inning stretch, Baylor held a 4-3 advantage. Then, Kansas used the long ball to help lift them to a win.

Senior Cal transfer Cole Elvis hit a solo home run to left-center field to lead off the seventh inning. The 422-foot home run was the fourth of the season for Elvis and tied the game at 4-4.

The bottom of the eighth started the same way the bottom of the seventh did. This time, it was English with the solo homer to left-center field. The home run was the fifth of the season for English and gave the Jayhawks a 5-4 advantage that they would secure in the ninth.

Junior Nebraska transfer Ethan Bradford started for Kansas and threw 4.0 innings allowing two runs on five hits. Sophomore Tennessee transfer Gavin Brasosky followed Bradford with three innings out of the bullpen where he allowed two runs on four hits with three strikeouts. Redshirt junior and San Diego State transfer Hunter Cranton then came on and worked a scoreless final two innings. He earned the win and improved to 2-2 on the season.

⚾️ English’s go-ahead homer helps Kansas sweep Baylor

The 13th-ranked Hutchinson Community College softball team split Saturday's road doubleheader against the Colby Trojans, Colby taking game one on a walk-off walk 7-6 and Hutchinson winning game two 8-5.

The loss in game one ended a 12-game winning streak dating back to March 8. The Blue Dragons now find themselves in a tie for first place in the Jayhawk Conference with Butler at 16-2 in league play. The two rivals face off in a critical doubleheader Wednesday in El Dorado.

Colby loaded the bases on and scored the game-winning run on a walk by Kaylee Sheets to win game one 7-6 Saturday in Colby. The Trojans loaded the bases before a walk, hit by pitch, and walk gave the Trojans the stunning upset win over the Blue Dragons.

Coming off being named the Jayhawk Conference and NJCAA national player of the week,&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2022-23/bios/goetz_aspen_qe50">Aspen Goetz</a>&nbsp;helped the Blue Dragons to an 8-5 bounce-back win over Colby. &nbsp;

Goetz homered on a two-run home run in the top of the third inning, giving the Blue Dragons the lead 3-1. The very next innings, Alle Stipsits hit a solo home run to make it 4-2, Blue Dragons.

After Colby added two runs in the bottom of the fifth, Grimes was drilled by a pitch with runners in scoring position and brought home&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2022-23/bios/lozoya_tamara_3twe">Tamara Lozoya</a>, who was pinch-running for&nbsp;<a href="https://bluedragonsports.com/sports/sball/2022-23/bios/wertz_riley_hm55">Riley Wertz</a>. 🥎 SB: Blue Dragons' 12-game win streak ends in split with Colby

SHAWNEE, Oklahoma—Playing their 3rd straight game in three days may have caught up with the Wichita Sky Kings on Sunday afternoon in Shawnee as Wichita dropped a battle for the the central division lead in the TBL to the Fire 119-117.

Despite the effort of the Sky Kings Teddy Allen's 37 points, the game was decided in the final 51 seconds when the Fire forced a Wichita turnover and scored immediately on a Daylon Guy driving layup to give the Fire a five point lead which proved to be enough to hang on for the win.

Coming into the game, the Sky Kings had a 10-1 record after stringing together a five game winning streak over the past two weeks after dropping their home opener to the Shreveport Mavericks on March 17th.

Both teams will have a few days off for the TBL All-Star game that will be played in Lehigh, Pennsylvania on April 8th.

The Sky Kings (10-2) return home for two games the weekend of April 15th and 16th with games versus the Oklahoma Panthers on the 15th and the Enid Outlaws on April 16th.
