This morning, the Kansas City Chiefs announced that QB Patrick Mahomes was named the team's nominee for the prestigious Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award presented by Nationwide.

One of the NFL's highest individual honors, it recognizes an NFL player for outstanding community service activities off the field, as well as excellence on the field. Mahomes is joined by 31 other candidates – one from each NFL team – who were also announced today.

"The Chiefs organization and the Kansas City community could not ask for a better leader on the field and representative off of it, which is why we are honored to once again announce Patrick Mahomes as the club's nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award," Chiefs Chairman and CEO Clark Hunt said. For the fourth year in a row, all 32 team winners will be highlighted as finalists and recognized for their important work during the weekend leading up to Super Bowl LVIII. The 2023 Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year will be announced during NFL Honors, a primetime awards special to air nationally the Thursday before Super Bowl LVIII on CBS.

All 32 nominees will receive a donation of up to $55,000 in their name to their charity of choice. The winner of the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award will receive a $250,000 donation to the charity of his choice. All donations are courtesy of the NFL Foundation and Nationwide. Along with the other 31 nominees, Mahomes will wear a Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year helmet decal through the end of the season in recognition of his accomplishments on and off the field.

Since entering the league as the Chiefs 10th overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, Mahomes has made a significant impact both on and off the field. In 2019, he established his foundation, 15 and the Mahomies Foundation, which has placed an emphasis on improving the lives of children with a continued focus on supporting health, wellness, and various communities in need of resources. To date, over $4 million in grants and programs have been distributed by the foundation, and the impact felt by the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation has been acknowledged locally as the&nbsp;Kansas City Business Journal&nbsp;ranked it among Kansas City's Biggest Charitable Trusts and Foundations by grant volume.

Patrick and 15 and the Mahomies Foundation have cultivated many impactful moments, kicking off the 2023-24 NFL season with an announcement of a national partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Touchdowns mean even more for Mahomes this year as he has pledged to donate $1,500 for every touchdown in the regular season to Boys and Girls Clubs of America in addition to his $1.625 million donation. His commitment will support facility improvements to Boys and Girls Clubs of America facilities in communities personal to Mahomes and his wife, Brittany, including Greater Kansas City and Lubbock, Tyler, and Whitehouse, Texas.

Prior to the start of the 2023-24 NFL season, Mahomes partnered with Make-A-Wish to grant wishes of 10 children who have life-threatening illnesses. Patrick took time to meet with each child, gave them gifts, played football, and created an unforgettable experience with each of them. 15 and the Mahomies has also focused on combating illiteracy issues for youth through the "Read for 15" program. This program was created to encourage children to adopt a good habit of reading. The program challenges students to read for at least 15 minutes a day for 15 weeks. With over 19,500 students pledging to participate in the program, 15 and the Mahomies has seen a 12 percent increase in reading scores of participating schools. Earlier this year, Mahomes hosted a Read for 15 Rally where nearly 2,400 elementary students from 16 schools heard from Mahomes himself on the importance of reading outside of school.

To continue Mahomes' goal of encouraging volunteerism amongst youth, 15 and the Mahomies has developed the "Volunteer for 15" program. Between May 1 and August 31 of this year, youth participating in the "Volunteer for 15" program completed nearly 23,000 volunteer hours in the local community. The program far exceeded its goal of 15,000 hours this year with an 86 percent increase in involvement.

The Foundation has also continued to activate its "15 for 15" programing. To date, the 15 and the Mahomies Foundation has awarded nearly 175 charitable grants which provide critical support of some of the most impactful programs in the country. This support has included backpack giveaways, free vision screenings and the donation of glasses for kids, football equipment and coaching clinics for youth football leagues, supporting Historically Black Colleges and Universities through the HBCU Legacy Bowl and the Black College Football Hall of Fame, providing scholarships for children of wounded and fallen United States Navy SEALs, the building of the all-inclusive 15 and the Mahomies Playground at MLK park, the building of the first all-inclusive soccer field, and so much more.

In 2022, 15 and the Mahomies distributed over 15,000 meals through partnerships with food banks and partnered with OneSight Vision Clinic to provide free eye exams and glasses to more than 100 children in the Kansas City area. At the start of the 2021 season and the 58th anniversary of Martin Luther King Jr.'s "I Have a Dream" speech, Mahomes and his foundation re-dedicated Kansas City's Martin Luther King Jr. Park thanks to a $1 million donation by 15 and the Mahomies Foundation. With this donation, a playground was brought to life with the intention of celebrating Dr. King and creating an inclusive and accessible area for children of all abilities. Prior to the 2020 general election, Mahomes was a vocal leader partnering with RISE to Vote, encouraging the players and coaches to register and actively participate in the general election. Leading into Election Day itself, he teamed with the Hunt Family Foundation via an Inspire Change grant to turn GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium into the largest polling center in the history of the Kansas City Election Board, serving more than 2,100 voters.

🏈 Mahomes named Chiefs nominee for Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year Award

LAWRENCE, Kan.&nbsp;– Kansas men’s basketball will retire two jerseys during upcoming home games starting with Thomas Robinson Dec. 9 when the Jayhawks take on Missouri. KU will also retire Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Famer Bill “Skinny” Johnson on Jan. 22 when Kansas hosts Cincinnati.

Robinson was named Consensus All-America First Team in 2012, having led Kansas to the Final Four and the NCAA title game. In 2012, the Washington, D.C., forward was the ESPN.com National Player of the Year, the Big 12 Player of the Year and All-Big 12 First Team. Robinson was the Most Outstanding Player of the 2012 NCAA Tournament Midwest Region and named to the 2012 Final Four All-Tournament Team.

In 2011-12, Robinson set the Kansas single-season double-doubles record with 27, achieving the feat in 69.2 percent (27-of-39) of games played his junior year. His 463 rebounds in 2011-12 are second most in school history for a single season, trailing only KU legend Wilt Chamberlain’s 510 in 1956-57. Additionally, Robinson’s 692 points in 2011-12 are ninth on the KU single-season list. Career-wise at KU, Robinson ranks 56th in career scoring with 1,026 points, and 15th in all-time rebounds at 763.

In his three seasons at KU, Robinson won three Big 12 regular-season titles, two Big 12 Tournaments, advanced to two NCAA Tournament Elite Eights and one Final Four. Additionally, KU went 50-1 in Allen Fieldhouse during his career, posting undefeated records in the venue in 2009-10 (18-0) and 2011-12 (16-0).

The Sacramento Kings chose Robinson as the No. 5 overall pick in the 2012 NBA Draft and he played five seasons in the NBA. In 2017-18, he competed for BC Khimki, a top-level professional team in Moscow, Russia, and has continued his pro career, currently with the NLEX Road Warriors in the Philippines.

Robinson’s jersey will be the second No. 0 to be retired at Kansas. Drew Gooden, who played at KU from 1999-2002, had his No. 0 jersey retired on Jan. 18, 2003.

The dominant collegiate center of his time, Johnson, who wore No. 33 while at Kansas, achieved All-American status in 1933 as he led the Jayhawks to three-consecutive Big Six Conference title under head coach Phog Allen. From Oklahoma City, Johnson, who stood 6-foot-4, was considered a giant in an era when the center jump after each basket was a part of the game, a rule that was later eliminated in 1937.

After graduation, Johnson continued to be a force in basketball. He played for Southern Kansas Stage Lines in the AAU, earning All-America honors. He led his team to the Missouri Valley AAU Conference title and third place in the National AAU Tournament in 1934. He was one of the few men to ever receive All-American honors in high school, college and AAU basketball.&nbsp;Johnson received the Jim Thorpe Award, given annually to an all-time sports great from Oklahoma, and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1977. He was inducted into the College Basketball Hall of Fame in 2006. Johnson died in February 1980.

Johnson will be represented by his son Bill Johnson Jr. and other family members for the Jan. 22 ceremony.

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;Fresh off its 69-65 win against No. 4 Connecticut, No. 2 Kansas (7-1) will play its third of four-straight home games when it hosts Kansas City (3-5) on Tuesday, Dec. 5. Tip from Allen Fieldhouse will be at 7 p.m. CT and the game will be televised on Big 12 NOW via ESPN+.

Kansas is 7-1 for the 10th-straight season beginning in 2014-15. The Jayhawks are the only team in NCAA Division I to be able to claim a 7-1 or better record each of the last 10 seasons. Kansas City ended a five-game losing streak with a 74-44 win against Southeast Missouri State on Nov. 30.

Kansas and Kansas City are meeting for the ninth time in a series that began in 1992. Kansas has won all eight previous meetings with the most recent being Dec. 14, 2019, a 98-57 KU win at T-Mobile Center in Kansas City.

Kansas enters Tuesday’s contest averaging 79.8 points per game with a plus-15.0 scoring margin. The Jayhawks pull down 38.9 rebounds per outing with a plus-1.1 rebound margin. Kansas leads the nation in assists per game at 22.8 and in field goal percentage (53.6%). KU also averages 6.8 steals and 5.1 blocked shots per contest.

On most every national player of the year watch list, senior center Hunter Dickinson leads Kansas in scoring at 20.9 ppg and leads the nation in rebounds per game at 12.2 rpg. He is one of only two players in the Big 12 to average a double-double. Named the Big 12 Player and Newcomer of the Week Nov. 20, Dickinson is 11-for-17 (64.7%) from three-point range and leads KU with 12 blocked shots and 11 steals.

Named the Big 12 Player of the Week and an Oscar Robertson National Player of the Week Nov. 28, graduate-senior Kevin McCullar Jr. leads the nation in triple doubles with two. He is second on the KU team in scoring at 18.5 points per contest after his 21 points versus UConn (12/1). McCullar is tied with Dickinson with a team-high 11 threes made.

Junior KJ Adams Jr. leads the Big 12 and is fifth nationally in field goal percentage at 71.2%. Coming off a season-high 18 points against UConn (12/1), Adams averages 11.8 points and 3.6 rebounds per contest.

Redshirt-senior Dajuan Harris Jr. leads the Big 12 with 7.2 assists per game, which is fourth nationally. Harris averages 5.8 points per contest. Freshman Elmarko Jackson (5.8 ppg, 3.4 assists per game) rounds out the KU starters. Other KU regulars include Furphy (5.9 ppg, 10 3FGs), graduate-senior Nicolas Timberlake (3.6 ppg), graduate-senior Parker Braun (3.3 ppg, 2.4 rpg, eight blocked shots), and freshman Jamari McDowell (2.9 ppg, 2.1 rpg).

UP NEXT Kansas will play host to Missouri in the HyVee Hoops Border Showdown, on Saturday, Dec. 9, at 4:15 p.m. (Central). The game from Allen Fieldhouse will be televised on ESPN.

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — Brandon Ingram scored 30 points and the New Orleans Pelicans beat the Sacramento Kings 127-117 in the quarterfinals of the NBA's In-Season Tournament. Ingram helped New Orleans erase an early deficit and the Pelicans never trailed in the second half as they advanced to play the winner of Tuesday night's game between Phoenix and the Los Angeles Lakers in the semifinals Thursday in Las Vegas. NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — Big-name free agents appear in no hurry to strike deals at the winter meetings, biding time until Shohei Ohtani potentially breaks the record for richest contract set 4 1/2 years ago by Mike Trout. And Japanese free agent Yoshinobu Yamamoto could be holding up the starting pitching market. Ohtani, the two-way unicorn who has won two of the last three AL MVP awards for the Los Angeles Angels, is expected to get a deal topping $500 million — Trout's contract was for $426.5 million over 12 years. Tokyo Olympics sullied by bid-rigging, bribery trials more than 2 years after the Games closed

TOKYO (AP) — The bid-rigging trial around the Tokyo Olympics is playing out in a Japanese courtroom — more than two years after the Games closed — with advertising giant Dentsu and five other companies facing criminal charges. Seven individuals are also facing charges from the Tokyo district prosecutors. Tokyo spent officially $13 billion to organize the Olympics, although a government audit suggested the figure was twice that large. About 60% is taxpayer money. Dentsu has a long history of lining up sponsorships and advertising with bodies like World Athletics, headed by Sebastian Coe, and the Switzerland-based International Olympic Committee, headed by Thomas Bach.

It is Arizona’s turn to sit atop The Associated Press Top 25 men’s college basketball poll.

The Wildcats rose to No. 1&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/hub/ap-top-25-college-basketball-poll" target="_blank">in Monday’s poll</a>&nbsp;for the first time in nearly nine years, making Tommy Lloyd’s squad the third team to hold the top spot this season. Last week’s No. 1 team, Purdue, slid&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/purdue-northwestern-basketball-score-boo-buie-f19528a8bab9a72cccf2ac59d287d30c" target="_blank">after an overtime loss at Northwestern</a>.

Arizona claimed 59 of 63 first-place votes to move up one spot, putting the Wildcats comfortably ahead of preseason No. 1 Kansas. The Jayhawks rose three spots to No. 2&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/uconn-kansas-basketball-score-7660785ee17639588fe2d67b792f1e60" target="_blank">with a win against last season’s NCAA champion, Connecticut</a>.

Arizona hasn’t been No. 1 in the AP Top 25 since an eight-week stint that ended in January 2014 under former coach Sean Miller. Lloyd is in his third season after a long run as an assistant at Gonzaga, and his first two teams each spent multiple weeks inside the top five.

“I know when I came to this program, my dream is to make it one of the best in the country,” Lloyd said of the possible rise to No. 1&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/arizona-colgate-score-985b9f91c24e2b6c2b025ea4483c3a0a" target="_blank">after a weekend win against Colgate</a>. “If you’re one of the best in the country, you’re going to stumble into being No. 1 once in a while. So you know what? Handle it. And that’ll be the message.”

It was a busy day for the poll: No team in the Top 25 was in the same spot it was a week ago.

Houston rose three spots to No. 3, while the Boilermakers fell to fourth after the Northwestern loss. UConn slid only one spot to No. 5 after the loss at Kansas, followed by Baylor.

Gonzaga and North Carolina cracked the top 10 for the first time this season.

The Bulldogs jumped four spots to No. 7 after&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/gonzaga-usc-score-3ec2c944eab18508384a409ecf43a62f" target="_blank">a neutral-court win against USC</a>. The Tar Heels jumped eight spots to No. 9&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/unc-tennessee-score-a4ec1ff6ac85ebab16986ce14de57fa9" target="_blank">after beating Tennessee</a>&nbsp;in the ACC/SEC Challenge, followed by&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/north-carolina-florida-state-basketball-score-854ba13f9be9e23912f37bd7a2deae51" target="_blank">a home comeback win against Florida State</a>.

The Tar Heels’ leap marked the week’s biggest jump, though No. 13 Colorado State was right behind them after rising seven spots on the strength of its 8-0 start. There was also a six-spot rise for No. 19 Oklahoma, which made its poll debut last week.

In all, 14 teams climbed from last week’s poll, including No. 10 Creighton rising five spots to rejoin the top 10 after spending the first three polls at No. 8.

Duke took the biggest tumble of the week of 15 spots to land at No. 22 after a pair of road losses against unranked opponents. First&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/duke-arkansas-basketball-score-1d8929153e0fc09565951a93ff4371c6" target="_blank">came a loss at Arkansas</a>&nbsp;then&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/duke-georgia-tech-basketball-score-314f49e380dc109c9f23a5adc35b3a8e" target="_blank">a loss at Georgia Tech</a>&nbsp;after starting point guard Tyrese Proctor went down with an early ankle injury.

No. 15 Miami, No. 17 Tennessee and No. 21 Texas A&amp;M each fell seven spots.

Three teams joined this week’s rankings.

Wisconsin jumped in at No. 23&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/marquette-wisconsin-basketball-score-9bf7a3ac468a237f2acbe49789ea08e0" target="_blank">after beating then-No. 3 Marquette</a>&nbsp;at home, pushing the Badgers to five straight wins. Clemson followed at No. 24 amid a 7-0 start, while San Diego State is back in the poll at No. 25 for the first time since sitting at No. 17 in the preseason.

Villanova (No. 18), Mississippi State (No. 21) Alabama (No. 23) fell out of the poll.

The Big 12 led all conferences with six ranked teams, including No. 12 Texas and No. 14 BYU.

The ACC was next with four teams, followed by the Big Ten, Big East and Southeastern conferences with three each. The Mountain West Conference had two ranked teams, while the Pac-12, American Athletic, Sun Belt and West Coast each had one.

(AP) — Jim Leyland, who led the Florida Marlins to a World Series title in 1997 and won 1,769 regular-season games over 22 seasons as an entertaining and at-times crusty big league manager, was elected to baseball’s Hall of Fame. Now 78, Leyland received 15 of 16 votes by the contemporary era committee for managers, executives and umpires. He becomes the 23rd manager in the hall. Former player and manager Lou Piniella fell one vote short and former player, broadcaster and executive Bill White was two shy. Leyland managed Pittsburgh, Florida, Colorado and Detroit from 1986 to 2013.

SEATTLE (AP) — The Atlanta Braves acquired outfielder Jarred Kelenic, pitcher Marco Gonzales and infielder Evan White from the Seattle Mariners in exchange for pitchers Cole Phillips and Jackson Kowar. The move adds a veteran lefty to the Braves pitching staff, along with Kelenic, who at one time was one of the top young prospects in baseball. In the process, Seattle cleared a chunk of salary off its payroll, giving up on Kelenic in order for the Braves to take the contracts of Gonzales and White. Gonzales is owed $12 million for the 2024 season, while White has $17 million in guaranteed money remaining on his contract.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Jordan Love showed the Kansas City Chiefs just how much he's learned since the last time he faced them.

Love connected with Christian Watson on two of his three touchdown passes and the resurgent Green Bay Packers won their third straight game, 27-19 over Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday night.

This marked the first time Love had faced the Chiefs since a 13-7 loss at Kansas City two years ago in his first career start, after a positive COVID-19 test sidelined Aaron Rodgers.

“Obviously I've had this game circled for a long time,” Love said. “This was my first start and I obviously didn't play how I wanted to the first game. To be able to see these guys and get the victory is huge.”

The Packers scored touchdowns on three of their first four drives and never trailed, with their defense making two big stops in the last 5 1/2 minutes. Green Bay knocked down Mahomes' pass into the end zone on the game’s final play.

Since losing four straight earlier this season, the Packers have won four of five to creep into playoff position.

“They're coming together,” Packers cach Matt LaFleur said. “They're working. They're getting better. They're playing faster, playing more confident.”

The Packers (6-6) improved their December record to 16-0 under LaFleur. The only team ever to win more consecutive December games was the San Diego Chargers with 18 straight from 2006-09, before their move to Los Angeles.

Love went 25 of 36 for 267 yards. Tight end Ben Sims had a 1-yard catch for his first career touchdown, and Love added TD passes of 9 and 12 yards to Watson.

Mahomes was 21 of 33 for 210 yards with a touchdown pass and an interception for the Super Bowl champion Chiefs (8-4), who lost in front of pop superstar Taylor Swift for the first time. Kansas City had won its previous four games Swift had attended since beginning her relationship with tight end Travis Kelce.

Kansas City still leads the AFC West but fell behind three other teams for the top seed in the conference.

“The Packers I thought did a great job tonight,” Chiefs coach Andy Reid said. "They got after us, and it’s a good football team. We’ve got to be able to start faster on both sides of the ball. We’ve got to make sure we take care of that. Whether it was the penalties on offense or whether we weren’t getting off the field on the defensive side, those are things that cost us. We’ve got to learn from that and get better as we go forward.”

Isiah Pacheco rushed for 110 yards and a touchdown before getting ejected for punching Keisean Nixon during a scuffle on the game’s final series. Noah Gray had a 2-yard TD catch early in the fourth quarter that got Kansas City within two.

Mahomes had a couple of late chances to tie the game or take the lead.

Kansas City had a first down just beyond midfield when Nixon picked off Mahomes' pass intended for Skyy Moore with 5:14 left. The turnover set up a 48-yard field goal by Anders Carlson that made it 27-19.

Kansas City got the ball back at its own 30 with 1:09 left and no timeouts remaining.

Mahomes had a 10-yard run and got hit by Jonathan Owens while going out of bounds, leading to a personal foul that put the ball at Green Bay’s 45. Rashee Rice then appeared to fumble, with Green Bay’s Corey Ballentine returning it for a game-clinching touchdown, but replays showed Rice was down before the ball came loose.

The Chiefs argued in vain for a pass interference call on a long incompletion to Marquez Valdes-Scantling in the final minute. The Chiefs had the ball at Kansas City’s 33 on the game’s final play, when Mahomes threw into a crowd, and there was plenty of contact before the ball fell to the ground.

Chiefs: LB Drue Tranquill left with a concussion in the first quarter. S Bryan Cook was carted off the field with an ankle injury in the third quarter. RB Jerick McKinnon (groin) didn't play.

Packers: Watson injured his hamstring while running for a first down late in the fourth quarter. CB Jaire Alexander (shoulder) missed a fourth consecutive game. RB Aaron Jones (knee) and TE Josiah Deguara (hip) were out for a second straight game.

LAWRENCE, Kan. –&nbsp;Making their second bowl appearance in as many seasons, the Kansas Jayhawks will play the UNLV Rebels in the 2023 Guaranteed Rate Bowl in Phoenix, Arizona on Tuesday, December 26. The game kicks off at 8 p.m. CT inside Chase Field – the home of the Arizona Diamondbacks — and will air on ESPN.

The bowl appearance will be Kansas’ 14th&nbsp;in program history, as the Jayhawks make their second consecutive bowl game for just the second time in program history. This year’s Guaranteed Rate Bowl will be Kansas’ second appearance in the bowl, after playing in the 2008 Insight Bowl in Tempe, Arizona, resulting in a 42-21 victory over Minnesota.

Kansas and UNLV will meet for the third time in the series history, as the two teams played in a home-and-home series in 2002 and 2003. Kansas won the most recent meeting in 2003, 46-24, while UNLV won the inaugural matchup in Las Vegas in 2022, 31-20.

The Jayhawks enter the 2023 Guaranteed Rate Bowl with their best regular season record since 2007, finishing 8-4 (5-4 Big 12) in its their third year under head coach Lance Leipold.

Kansas opened the season with a 4-0 start for the second-straight season, rattling off wins against Missouri State (48-17), Illinois (34-23), at Nevada (31-24) and BYU (38-27). Kansas suffered its first lost at No. 3 Texas on Sept. 30, 40-14.

The Jayhawks returned home on Oct. 7 and rushed for 399 yards to defeat UCF, 51-22 for its fifth win. Two weeks later, Kansas defeated No. 6 Oklahoma on Homecoming, 38-33, marking its first win over a top-10 team in Lawrence since 1984, while becoming bowl-eligible for the second consecutive season.

Kansas closed out its regular season with two road wins over its final four games, including a thrilling 28-21 victory over Iowa State in Ames on Nov. 4. Following two-straight losses at home, the Jayhawks completed its regular season with a 49-16 win over Cincinnati on Nov. 25.

The five Big 12 Conference wins for the Jayhawks were the most since the 2007 season, while Kansas reached eight wins for the 15th&nbsp;time in program history.

The Jayhawks will enter the Guaranteed Rate Bowl with the No. 4 total defense in the Big 12, allowing an average of 377.6 yards per game. Kansas’ offense averages 33.6 points per game, which enters bowl game ranked 29th&nbsp;nationally.

UNLV enters the Guaranteed Rate Bowl at 9-4 including a 6-2 record in Mountain West Conference play. The Rebels advanced to the Mountain West Championship, falling to Boise State, 44-20, on Dec. 2.

MANHATTAN, Kan. – For the first time in school history, K-State Nation is headed to Florida for a bowl game, as Kansas State officials announced Sunday afternoon that the Wildcats have accepted an invitation to play No. 18 NC State in the Pop-Tarts Bowl inside Camping World Stadium in Orlando, Florida. The game will take place on Tuesday, December 28 at 4:45 p.m. (CT) and will air on ESPN.

K-State will be playing in the state of Florida for just the seventh time ever and the first since a 28-24 victory at Miami on September 24, 2011.

"We are thrilled to represent the Big 12 Conference in the Pop-Tarts Bowl," said K-State head coach Chris Klieman, the first head coach in school history to lead his team to four bowl games in his first five seasons. "I am proud of our team, especially our seniors, and our staff for keeping their heads down and grinding through this season.
