LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Dallin Hall and Jaxson Robinson scored 18 points apiece as BYU rallied from a 12-point deficit to beat seventh-ranked Kansas 76-68 on Tuesday night, ending the Jayhawks' 19-game home winning streak.

The Cougars (20-8, 8-7 Big 12) took a 66-63 lead when Noah Waterman drained a 3-pointer with 2:43 left. Hunter Dickinson answered with a 3 for Kansas, but Robinson hit two free throws and Hall drained another 3, sending BYU to a win in its first trip to storied Allen Fieldhouse since December 1971.

Dickinson had 17 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Jayhawks (21-7, 9-6), who were just 3 of 15 from 3-point range and 19 for 31 at the foul line. Dajuan Harris Jr. added 12 points, KJ Adams Jr. scored 11 and Johnny Furphy finished with 10.

BYU won despite heavy foul trouble in part by going 13 of 34 from behind the 3-point arc.

Already playing without Kevin McCullar Jr., who missed his fifth game with a bone bruise on his knee, the Jayhawks had a scare when Nick Timberlake landed hard after going up for a rebound. The thud echoed through Allen Fieldhouse, and Timberlake spent a couple of minutes in the locker room before eventually returning to the game.

Foul trouble set in for BYU in the second half. Hall picked up his fourth with 17:39 to go, and Trevin Knell got his fourth — after a double-technical with Dickinson — just minutes later. But the Jayhawks were unable to take advantage, not only struggling at the foul line but going more than eight minutes without a field goal.

BYU had another technical foul called on its bench with 7:50 left — and Harris made both of those free throws.

That's when the Cougars suddenly began to rain 3-pointers, wiping away a 56-50 deficit and taking their first lead at 59-58 on two free throws by Hall with 4:50 to play. Hall added two 3s of his own over the next few minutes, including one from the top of the key, which gave the Big 12 newcomers a 71-66 lead with 1:31 remaining.

The Cougars were able to hold on the rest of the way for another signature win in their first season in the Big 12.

BYU returns home to play TCU on Saturday night.

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Spring training Sho-time starts Tuesday with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Shohei Ohtani will make his exhibition debut with the Dodgers when he serves as the designated hitter for Los Angeles on Tuesday against the Chicago White Sox. Los Angeles has been taking it slowly with the two-way star, who signed a record $700 million, 10-year contract. The two-time MVP is coming off right elbow surgery last September that will keep him from pitching this year. Ohtani did take live batting practice on Sunday, with Dodgers manager Dave Roberts saying the sport's biggest star will play his first exhibition game Tuesday.

Duke coach Jon Scheyer wants the Atlantic Coast Conference to implement measures to prevent court-storming after star big man Kyle Filipowski was hobbled following a collision with a fan during a weekend loss at Wake Forest. Scheyer said Monday that Filipowski was "a little bit sore" after the incident Saturday. Filipowski sported a bag of ice on his knee after banging his right leg into the leg of a fan running by him toward midcourt during the rush. Scheyer followed his postgame call to ban court-storming with a plea for the ACC to put such a policy in place now. The 10th-ranked Blue Devils host an eight-win Louisville team on Wednesday.

NEW YORK (AP) — Reigning WNBA MVP Breanna Stewart has re-signed with the New York Liberty. The Liberty now have their entire starting lineup back from last season's team that lost in the WNBA Finals to the Las Vegas Aces. Stewart came to the Liberty last season after spending her entire career with the Seattle Storm. She averaged 23 points, 9.3 rebounds and 3.8 assists and earned the league MVP honor for the second time in her career. The MVP award was one of the tightest races with Connecticut's Alyssa Thomas and Las Vegas' A'ja Wilson right behind Stewart.

Twins acquire outfielder Manuel Margot in 3-player trade with Dodgers, who add Kiké Hernández

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Twins acquired outfielder Manuel Margot, minor league shortstop Rayne Doncon and cash from the Los Angeles Dodgers for minor league shortstop Noah Miller. In conjunction with the trade, the Dodgers announced a $4 million, one-year contract to keep Kiké Hernández. The 29-year-old Margot just joined the Dodgers two months ago with starting pitcher Tyler Glasnow in a trade with Tampa Bay. Margot hit .264 with a .686 OPS in 99 games for the Rays last season while playing center field and right field. He has also played left field.

Case possibly containing Wayne Gretzky rookie cards sells for $3.7M at auction

REGINA, Saskatchewan (AP) — A case of old hockey cards possibly containing the game's Great One has fetched more than $3.7 million after it was discovered in a home in Canada. Heritage Auctions says the winning bidder bought the case of 16 sealed boxes of O-Pee-Chee's 1979 hockey card collection, amounting to more than 10,000 cards. The auctioneer says the case could include 25 or more highly coveted Wayne Gretzky rookie cards. A man in Regina, Saskatchewan, had kept the case in a packed storage room. The auctioneer says the longtime collector asked to remain anonymous.

Houston rises to No. 1 in AP Top 25 ahead of Purdue, UConn; South Florida makes its rankings debut

Now it's Houston's turn at the top of The Associated Press men's college basketball poll. The Cougars moved to No. 1 for the first time this season in Monday's latest poll. They climbed one spot to end reigning national champion Connecticut's six-week stay there. Houston became the fifth team to hold the top spot this season after an overtime win at Baylor. Purdue was No. 2 while UConn fell to third. The poll's new additions included South Florida at No. 25 for that program's first-ever appearance. No. 22 Utah State and No. 23 Gonzaga rejoined the poll.

Anthony Kim returning after 12 years to LIV? Greg Norman drops a tease

All signs point toward Anthony Kim ending his 12-year absence by playing on the LIV Golf circuit in Saudi Arabia. The latest indication is a video tease from Greg Norman. The short video shows vague images of Kim. Norman writes of an incredible talent and that it was his honor to welcome him to LIV Golf. A spokeswoman for the Saudi-funded league said Monday there was nothing official to announce. Kim is 38. He walked away from the PGA Tour in 2012 and hasn't played since. He had an Achilles tendon injury the next year and has given only one interview since then.

Yankees pitcher Cortes emerges pain-free from first spring training start after injury-marred 2023

New York Yankees pitcher Nestor Cortes emerged pain-free from his first spring training appearance. Cortes says being healthy is the most important thing after he allowed two runs on seven hits in 2 2/3 innings against Montreal. The left-handed Cortes also struck out four. The 29-year-old Cortes was limited to 12 starts in 2023 due to a left rotator cuff injury. Elsewhere in spring training, Dodgers stars Shohei Ohtani and Yoshinobu Yamamoto are expected to make their spring training debuts for Los Angeles.

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) — Tylor Perry scored 29 points and made six 3-pointers, Cam Carter added 19 points and Kansas State let a 25-point lead slip away before beating West Virginia 94-90 in overtime on Monday night.

Kansas State (17-11, 7-8 Big 12 Conference) set an NCAA single-season record with its seventh overtime victory, extending Jerome Tang’s mark to 12-0 in his two seasons as coach. West Virginia (9-19, 6-9) remains winless on the road this season, going 0 for 8.

Kansas State built a six-point lead, 87-81, in overtime before RaeQuan Battle made West Virginia's first field goal of extra time with 1:48 left. Battle made another 3-pointer with 34 seconds left to get within 89-88.

Kansas State dribbled down the clock before Perry was fouled and made two free throws for a 91-88 lead with 15.4 seconds left. The Wildcats elected to foul before West Virginia could attempt a tying 3-pointer. Kerr Kriisa made two free throws with 12.3 to get within 91-90.

Perry made two free throws with 8.8 seconds left for a 93-90 lead. Battle was long on a 3-pointer at the other end and Kansas State got the ball back after an official review. Carter sealed it with a free throw.

Will McNair Jr. and Arthur Kaluma each added 13 points for Kansas State. The Wildcats entered making just 30.7% of their 3-point attempts and finished 15 of 31 (48.4%) against the Mountaineers.

Battle scored 28 points and made six 3-pointers, and Kriisa added 25 points and five 3-pointers for West Virginia. Jesse Edwards, averaging 14.6 points per game, was held to five points on 1-of-9 shooting.

Kansas State led 48-26 at halftime after making 11 of 19 from 3-point range, while West Virginia was just 11 of 33 overall. The Wildcats led by as many as 25 points, 66-41, in the second half.

Kriisa made his second 3-pointer during a 10-0 run with 2:13 left in regulation to give West Virginia a lead, 77-74, for the first time since it was 11-10. He added two free throws to make it 79-75.

McNair grabbed an offensive rebound and put it back to get Kansas State within 79-77. After Edwards missed two straight free throws for West Virginia, Perry was fouled on a baseline drive before making two at the stripe to tie it at 79-all with 15.5 left. Kriisa's contested jumper at the buzzer didn't hit the rim and Edwards wasn't able to get another shot off before the buzzer.

Kansas State completed the season sweep of West Virginia for the first time since 2019.

Barber took the softball world by storm this weekend at the Razorback Invitational. The freshman appeared in three games, making two starts, and struck out 33 hitters in 15.0 innings. She allowed only two runs, sporting a 0.93 ERA on eight hits. Barber tied the single game school record with 15 strikeouts in Wichita State's 3-1 win at No. 15/14 Arkansas Friday night. Two days later she proceeded to break that school record with 16 strikeouts vs. Illinois State. For the season, she is 3-0 with 49 strikeouts in 24.0 innings and a 2.33 ERA. Her 14.3 strikeouts per 7.0 innings is tops in the country.

Wong continued her blazing start at the plate in Fayetteville. Over five games, Wong was 8-for-14 (.571) with a double, three home runs, four walks, four runs scored and 11 RBI. She had multiple hits in three of the five games and multiple RBI in all five. She finished the tournament with a home run in each of the final three games. Through 10 games Wong has a .548 batting average which ranks 11th nationally. She is Top 10 in the country in on base percentage and slugging percentage.

These are the first weekly awards for Barber and Wong.

Wichita State travels to Lincoln, Neb., for the Big Red Invitational this weekend to face Nebraska and nationally ranked Missouri.&nbsp;&nbsp;

The Blue Dragon women (27-0, 21-0 KJCCC) remain the No. 1 team for the third straight week. Hutchinson received all 10 first place votes for the third straight time, as well. Gulf Coast State (Fla.) is No. 2, followed by Wabash Valley (IL), Collin County (TX) and Shelton State (AL) round out the top-five.

Dodge City is the lone other representative from the Jayhawk Conference in the Top 25 at No. 14, up a spot from last week.

The HutchCC men (23-4, 18-3 KJCCC) remain No. 15 in the men's Top 25 poll for the fourth straight week. Barton headlines the poll at No. 1, giving the Cougars the top-ranking for the first time in 21 years. South Plains (TX), Triton College (IL), Salt Lake (UT) and Vincennes University (IN) round out the top-five.

🏀 HutchCC women remain No. 1, men No. 15 in latest NJCAA rankings

A native of McKinney, Texas, Matt entered into Minor League Baseball with the record-breaking brand launch of the Amarillo Sod Poodles. Following the 2021 season, he moved northeast joining the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders as Vice President of Partnerships before ultimately being named Assistant General Manager in December 2022. Under his guidance as AGM, the RailRiders set records in both group and overall ticket sales and have seen continued growth in partnership revenue in each of his two seasons with the club.

Prior to his life in Minor League Baseball, Matt worked in the broadcast television business for seven years, he was a news reporter, sports anchor and morning show news anchor. He attended West Texas A&amp;M University where he was a member of the Buffaloes baseball team and majored in Sports Broadcasting.

⚾️ Wind Surge names new GM

WICHITA, Kan. (AP) — Joran Riley finished with 15 points and 11 rebounds and Steve Settle III had a go-ahead three-point play in overtime to rally Temps to a 72-66 victory over Wichita State on Sunday.

Riley added three steals for the Owls (10-17, 3-11 American Athletic Conference). Shane Dezonie totaled 14 points and 11 rebounds. Hysier Miller scored four of his 14 points in the extra period.

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Freshman S'Mya Nichols scored 22 points to lead Kansas to a 58-55 win over No. 10 Kansas State on Sunday.

Taiyanna Jackson added 11 points and Holly Kersgieter scored 10 for Kansas (16-11, 9-7 Big 12), which closed out the victory with an 11-4 run and improved to 6-1 in its last seven games.

“This is the best memory I have of Allen Fieldhouse,” Kersgieter, a super senior, said of her final game against rival Kansas State. “Whether you’re playing for a championship, or whatever, having a home rivalry game against the top-10 team at a crucial moment in the season, I thought to myself, ‘This is the best moment.’”

Kansas coach Brandon Schneider, who is in his ninth season at Kansas, agreed.

“Obviously winning the NIT championship was great last year, but this team is fighting for an NCAA Tournament berth," he said. "I think a top-10 win late in the year is one of those that you add to the resume.”

Ayoka Lee scored 14 points and Taryn Sides added 11 for Kansas State (23-5, 12-4), which has gone 3-4 in its last seven games.

“I thought Kansas outplayed us down the stretch in a tight ballgame all the way around,” Kansas State coach Jeff Mittie said. “They executed their stuff better than we did. They did a real good job of disrupting some things for us. And we didn’t play with as much poise as we needed to play with.”

Mittie said Lee is still working her way back into game shape after missing multiple games with injuries.

“She hasn’t had a lot of reps,” he said. “It wasn’t the type of injury that you’re able to get a lot of reps on. I think it’s going to take her a couple of weeks to get the feel around the rim.”

Kansas State held a 51-47 advantage before Kansas started its closing run. Nichols used a spin move for an open layup to tie the game at 51 with 3:31 left.

“We knew exactly what we were getting from her as a player, in terms of her skill level and our versatility,” Schneider said of his freshman star. “But until you start working with the player, you see the poise and composure and that side of it. I think she is far beyond her years of experience.”

Kersgieter hit a mid-range jumper to give Kansas the lead with 2:43 remaining. After Serena Sundell hit one of two free throws, Nichols scored to make it a three-point game, 55-52, with 2:03 remaining.

Sundell missed a contested layup on the next possession, and Kersgieter hit two free throws to give Kansas a five-point lead and added another to push the advantage to six points at 58-52 with 24.8 seconds left.

Sides hit a 3-pointer that pulled the Wildcats within 58-55, but her 3-point try at the buzzer bounced off the rim.

“I was thinking, ‘Stay out,’” Schneider said with a laugh. “It's like rooting against a putt.”

The third quarter ended with the Wildcats clinging to a 43-42 lead after the teams traded buckets most of the period. Nichols scored seven of Kansas' 14 points in the third quarter.

Kansas State: The Wildcats will be tough to stop once Ayoka Lee is at full strength. Lee is working into shape after missing multiple games due to injury.

Kansas: This might have been a victory that secured an NCAA Tournament berth for the Jayhawks, who came into the game on the bubble.

The video shows Newton, wearing one of his custom-made hats, being shoved by three people near the top of a set of steps before the altercation moves toward a fence line. The video lasts less than 30 seconds before the altercation is broken up by a policeman and event security at the WeBall Sports x DynastyU 7v7 tournament at B.E.S.T. Academy. Newton, the No. 1 overall pick in 2011 out of Auburn, does not appear to throw any punches in the video, although there is one punch thrown in his direction. It’s unclear if the punch landed on the former quarterback.

HAMPTON, Ga. (AP) — Daniel Suarez edged Ryan Blaney and Kyle Busch in a three-wide finish to win a crashed-filled NASCAR Cup Series race at Atlanta Motor Speedway. VALLARTA, Mexico (AP) — Jake Knapp has won the Mexico Open, and it wasn't easy until the end. Knapp had a four-shot lead going into the final round. That was cut in half in three holes and gone after seven holes. But the 29-year-old rookie from UCLA never lost the lead. He hit only two fairways and leaned on a short game that carried him to a 71. He won by two shots over Sami Valimaki. The victory gives Knapp a spot in the Masters and the PGA Championship. He also gets into the remaining five signature events with a $20 million purse.

UNDATED (AP) — Cody Bellinger is going back to the Chicago Cubs, agreeing to an $80 million, three-year contract, according to a person familiar with the deal. The slugger can opt out of the deal after each of the first two years. The person confirmed the agreement to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because it was pending a physical. Bellinger’s return would be a big win for the Cubs, who waited into spring training as the center fielder explored his options in free agency. He hit a career-best .307 with 26 homers, 97 RBIs and 20 steals in 130 games for Chicago in 2023.

PARK CITY, KS — Seven Hutchinson High School wrestlers took to the mat over the weekend in the KSHSAA Class 5A State Championship.

The Salthawks put three on the podium. Junior Kade Smith, battled his way to the championship before falling to Bradley Trimmell of Andover. Freshman Cruz Cannon fell in the semifinal to Trevor Christenson (Basehor-Linwood), but would show his grit on the consolation side of the bracket, defeating Brock Slimmer (Spring Hill) to finish with a 3rd place medal. The final placer for the Salthawks was at heavyweight. Senior Camden Jensen finished his career with the Salthawks as a two-time state placer with a 5th place finish.

The Salthawks will return all qualifiers for next season, with the exception of &nbsp;Jensen. The youthful Salthawks gained viable experience at the highest level of wrestling in Kansas. The Salthawks will move to the offseason looking to continue to build on the foundation that was laid this season.

Pawol's spring training debut marked the first time since 2007 that a woman umpired a major league spring training game, last done by Ria Cortesio. With a ponytail coming out of her ballcap, Pawol was stationed at third base.

SCOTTSDALE, Ariz. (AP) — Major League Baseball's move to slice two seconds off the pitch clock with runners on base is too much, too soon, according to the head of the players' union. MLBPA executive director Tony Clark said on Saturday that pitchers around the league are concerned about injuries now that the pitch clock is moving from 20 seconds to 18 seconds with men on base in 2024. The pitch clock will stay at 15 seconds with no one on base. MLB introduced a new rules package last season that radically cut game times by about 25 minutes, which was the quickest games have been played since 1984. MLB still wants to shave a few more minutes off game times, cutting the pitch clock even more for the upcoming season.

John Wooden stamp unveiled at UCLA honoring the coach who led Bruins to a record 10 national titles

LOS ANGELES (AP) — A U.S. stamp honoring John Wooden has been unveiled on the UCLA campus where he coached the Bruins to a record 10 national basketball championships in the 1960s and '70s. Two of his former players, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Jamaal Wilkes, were on hand to honor Wooden. His oldest grandchild, Christy Impelman, recalled how Wooden personally replied to letters and autograph requests throughout his lifetime with handwritten notes he enclosed in envelopes with stamps. He is the second college basketball coach to be honored with a postage stamp. The other is James Naismith, who invented the game. Wooden was 99 when he died in 2010.

SEATTLE (AP) — Authorities in Washington state say former NFL star Richard Sherman was arrested early Saturday on suspicion of driving under the influence. A Washington State Patrol trooper who helped respond to the traffic stop in a statement of probable cause reported talking to Sherman and noticing "the odor of intoxicants" and that Sherman's eyes appeared to be "bloodshot and watery." An email seeking comment was sent to a representative for Sherman listed on his social media sites and for an attorney who has represented him in the past. Lisa Lopez-Galvan was remembered Saturday during a funeral mass as a loving mother and wife who saw each day as a chance for excitement and laughter. The 43-year-old Lopez-Galvan was one of about two dozen people shot when gunfire erupted Feb. 14 outside the city's Union Station where she, her husband and adult son had joined an estimated crowd of 1 million people for the festivities. As the rally ended, a dispute led to gunfire. Authorities say it started over a belief that people in one group were staring at people in another group.

LIBERAL, Kan. — No. 15 Hutchinson (23-4, 18-3) used back-to-back-to-back threes, from three different players, to start the second half on an 11-0 run against Seward (7-20, 5-16) Saturday night.

Kam Thomas, J.P. Ricks and Landon Wagler each knocked down a triple to put Hutchinson up 45-28.

The three by Thomas was the only one he hit all night.

Thomas finished with 13 points, 12 rebounds and five blocks, but the league's best three-point shooter went just 1-of-10 from distance and 4-of-18 from the floor.

Tino Simon just missed a double-double with his 19 points and nine rebounds.

Kernan Bundy scored six of his 10 points from the free-throw line, where he was 6-of-7.

Jaden Martin and Dave Olaniyi scored 15 each for Seward.

Hutchinson outrebounded Seward 49-31 and scored 21 points on 14 Saint turnovers.

🏀 MBB: No. 15 Dragons win by 15 on road

LIBERAL, Kan. — No. 1 Hutchinson (27-0, 21-0) clinched the Jayhawk Conference outright for the 10th time in John Ontjes' 17 seasons.

The Dragons trailed by five after one quarter, but used a 23-8 second quarter to take a 10-point lead into halftime.

Hailey Jackson scored 16 of her 20 total points in the first half.

Kiki Smith hit 5-of-7 from beyond the arc and finished with 24 points.

Journey Armstead recorded a career-high 11 assists and accounted for half of the team's total (22).

Allie Myers entered the game averaging a double-double over her last two contests. The Dragons held Myers to 1-of-5 shooting with two total points and four rebounds.

Hutchinson shot 86.7% in the third quarter, 56.1% for the game, despite shooting just 4-of-14 (28.6%) in the game's first 10 minutes.

Jamia Carter led Seward with 16 points on 7-of-16 shooting.

🏀 WBB: No. 1 Dragons clinch conference title

LAWRENCE, Kan. (AP) — Hunter Dickinson scored 20 points, KJ Adams had 16 and No. 9 Kansas beat Texas 86-67 on Saturday night.

All five Kansas starters scored in double figures as Johnny Furphy contributed 16, Dajuan Harris had 14 and Nicolas Timberlake scored 13.

Kansas (21-6, 9-5 Big 12) separated midway through the first half with a 12-0 run to take a 28-15 lead which was highlighted by two jams. Furphy back cut on a defender and threw it down between two Longhorns which started the run.

Two minutes later, Timberlake leaped over Dylan Disu for an alley-oop slam from Harris on a two-on-one fast break. The crowd erupted and Kansas used that momentum to distance themselves and take a 45-25 lead at halftime.

The Jayhawks outscored Texas 52-34 in the paint, which led to Kansas shooting 32 of 52 or 62% from the field. Texas shot 26 of 62 or 42% from the field.

Texas (17-10, 6-8) was led by Tyrese Hunter and Dillon Mitchell with 12 points each.

The Jayhawks' Kevin McCullar Jr. missed the game due to a lingering knee injury. Before the game, Kansas coach Bill Self said he is considered “week to week.” He has missed four Big 12 games this season.

Texas: Poor shooting early haunted the Longhorns and they are now in a tie for ninth in the Big 12.

Kansas: Several dunks and a behind-the-back pass for a layup by Elmarko Jackson showcased an impressive first half from the Jayhawks. They showed that when they are hitting on all cylinders, they are as good as anyone in the country.

Texas: Travels to No. 23 Texas Tech on Tuesday night.
