Loren Carl Rudolph, 81, died Tues. July 9, 2024. Loren was born October 6, 1942 in Salina, KS to Ed Sears and Opal (Layman). He grew up in Pilsen, KS and graduated from Center High School in Lincolnville in 1961. He married Judy Bonham of McPherson on Dec. 15, 1968, and spent 55 wonderful years with their daughters.

His love for his family and his Lord was obvious. In his final hours, he talked about “walking on the water and fishing with Jesus”. He held his cross tightly in his hands. He had asked if all his girls were with him. We were all there surrounding him and he said he was so happy with peace and joy in his heart.

He is preceded in death by Ed Sears, Pete and Mary Rudolph (parents), Opal and Robert Smith (Mother and Father), Sharon, Judy (wife), and Orval and Orlena Bonham (in-laws). He leaves behind “his girls”, as he would say, Lisa Unruh (daughter), Darla Rudolph (daughter), Jennifer (Derrick) Byran (daughter), Aaliyah Johnson (Caleb Caudell) (granddaughter), Bridget Rudolph (granddaughter), Larry (Ella) Rudolph (brother), Lenora Singleton (sister), Luella Jackson (sister), and many nieces and nephews he adored.

He was an army mechanic, police man, sheriffs reserve officer, and a car/truck mechanic. Other jobs Loren did consisted of hard work, especially when it came to using his hands. He also enjoyed family vacations. He went to California to visit his mother and father, and Oklahoma to visit Judy’s side of the family. Spending time with his siblings was very important to him, and they would hold holiday celebrations in different homes several times a year. These get-togethers included Adults-only card games (Pinochle and Pitch) and lots of conversation. He also had a love for fishing, camping, gardening, and attending sports events. All of this he enjoyed doing with family. His love and encouragement was always present with family as well as guidance and direction. Sometimes the advice was something we didn’t want to hear, but in the end it was the right thing we needed to hear all along. He was always ready to help his neighbors and friends. He had a heart of gold and would give you his last dime if you needed it. Loren enjoyed talking to his friends at Men’s coffee, sharing stories about his life experiences. He was full of life and made people laugh. Until the end, he would share memories with family and with anyone who would come to visit. He loved nature, especially birds. He had a collection of eagles and hummingbirds. He also had a collection of model cars. He also had a great love for his country, and would display the Red, White, and Blue American Flag.

A small child’s prayer Bible was found where he sat with a special page marked. I need you Jesus. My Jesus with all my heart and soul I want you. I cannot do without you. My soul needs you. My heart is ready for you. Come to me, Jesus come to me.

A celebration of life will be held mid-August 2024 at Grace Community Church in Hillsboro, KS. The date will be announced later.

Louise Merle Gould, 95, passed away at Leisure Homestead in Stafford on Wednesday, July 10, 2024. She was born on August 11, 1928 in Zenda, Kansas to Lewis Eugene and Mary (Mercer) Tatro. Louise married Willis Leslie Gould December 2, 1946. He preceded her in death on December 1, 1970.

Louise worked as a housekeeper with Pratt Regional Medical Center until she retired. She was a member of Free Methodist Church and TOPS (Take Off Pounds Sensibly). She enjoyed gardening, reading; especially the bible and love stories, cross stitching, collecting angels, cooking for family Christmas Eve dinner, going for car rides around Lemon Park and Pratt County Lake, and going out for a children's size chicken taco salad. She loved spending time with her family and drinking Pepsi and Diet Mountain Dew.

She is survived by her son, Edwin (Marge Hemphill) Gould of Pratt; son in-law, Jerry Fredrick of Pratt; daughter in-law, Donna Gould of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Sondra (Wayne) Davis of St. John, Troy (Brandee) McGuire of Bullard, Texas, Michael (Whitney) Gould of Pratt, Billy (Wendy) Gould of Wichita, Christina Curley of Hutchinson, Todd (Amanda) Fredrick of Pratt, Matthew (Sasha) Gould of Kansas City, Kansas and T.J. Don Lee Baker, 78, climbed the stairway to heaven June 27, 2024 in Wichita, Kansas at Harry Hynes Memorial Hospice surrounded by family in his final moments. He was born in Wichita, Kansas on September 29, 1945, to parents Earl William Baker and Avis (Stewart) Baker. He attended Wichita West High School studying drafting and played clarinet in the orchestra and marching band. Don enlisted in the Navy and served as a draftsman for the Fleet Intelligence Center Pacific from 1966-1970. Following his enlistment he graduated from the California College of Arts and Crafts and worked at Landor and Associates, San Francisco developing packaging designs for Revlon, 7-Up and Squirt. Don spent the last 30 years living in New Boston, Michigan. He began Baker Designs, consulting business offering his expertise on packaging and interior designs. After retirement Don studied massage therapy and started a neuromuscular therapy business, SomataPoints, working with physicians and clients to alleviate pain. Following his final retirement, Don concentrated on wood carving, scrimshaw, and knife making. He loved talking to people about art, attending many shows in the Michigan area demonstrating his scrimming techniques. He always was willing to teach and encouraged guests to try the arts and to appreciate color and design. He was a favorite guest speaker to many of the local gem and mineral, and carving clubs to talk about his crafts. He was particularly interested in Native American culture, producing many pieces in the genre. He loved to travel, seeing the beauty of the world and immersing into the cultures. Don was very fond of the Dobermans he rescued from Second Chance Dobes and they returned the love. His admiration and dedication to the breed was unsurpassed. Don was a member of the Wyandotte VFW, was a member of the riders group and was known as Dog Man.&nbsp;

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Avis. He is survived by his sister Jeannie Burkhardt (Charles), nephews Scott Burkhardt (Misty) and Seth Burkhardt (Jennifer), grand nephews Cole and Grant, grand nieces Kayla and Mia.

Troy M. Kern was born in Wichita, Kansas on April 4, 1967, to TaMyra Bowhay and Joseph Kern. He passed away at the age of 57 on Monday, June 17, 2024.&nbsp;&nbsp;He graduated from Wichita Heights High School in 1985. He worked for many years as a skilled carpenter doing jobs including roofing, painting, carpet laying and remodeling bathrooms just to name a few of his accomplishments.

Troy was an arborist, cutting down trees and splitting and stacking wood for the winter months. That was another way he was able to put his hands to good use.&nbsp;&nbsp;His hobbies included playing many rounds of golf with his dad and uncles Jim and Jack. They would never disclose how many clubs ended up in the ponds though.&nbsp;&nbsp;He loved anything to do with the outdoors. He enjoyed boating and fishing. He especially liked going out at night so he could take his great danes, Hades and Zues with him to share those experiences. This was a great time to take them running and get some exercise as well.&nbsp; &nbsp;Troy loved the sport of disc golf. He was very good at it, playing in many tournaments both in town and out of town. He usually placed in the top three finishers, always returning home with a big smile on his face and winnings in his pocket.

December 2008 was a very special time in Troy’s life. That was when he became the proud father of Joshua Roman Kern. He spent the next eight years with Joshua before returning to Wichita. They were still able to spend many birthdays and other special occasions together celebrating. Countless hours were spent on long distance telephone conversations and numerous lengthy text messages. Joshua was able to come back this past Christmas and reconnect personally with his father and family. Troy leaves Joshua with many, many fond memories.

Troy’s life wasn’t without great trials and challenges, and while his death came as a shock to his family and friends, he was loved by many and will be greatly missed. Those many family members and friends may not have always known or understood what was in his heart or mind, but they always wanted the best for him and wished him that.

As our minds and hearts begin the journey of healing and finding peace and understanding following Troy’s death, we will always remember the many good memories of having Troy in our lives.

Troy is survived by his mother TaMyra Kern (Jim Hamilton) of Park City, Ks. and his son, Joshua Roman Kern of Phoenix, AR. He is also survived by his aunts Donna Stafford, Mulvane, Ks., Sue Kern, Wichita, Ks., and Terry Bradley, Fairfield Bay, Ark. uncles Jim Kern, Winfield, Ks., Harold Bowhay, Andale, Ks, Jack Kern, and Jerry Bowhay, Wichita, Ks, numerous cousins and friends.

Troy was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Kern; grandparents, LaZerne Bowhay, Emil &amp; Velda Kern, and Howard &amp; LaVerin Zimmerman; his aunts Barbara Nance and Tina Watts; uncle Jere Kern and a cousin, Jonathan Bradley.

Shannon S. Crane, 62, of Hutchinson, died July 1, 2024. She was born August 14, 1961, in Gardner, KS to Robert and Carol (Conboy) Crane.&nbsp;

Shannon was native to Hutchinson and graduated from Hutchinson High School. She received honors when graduating from Hutchinson Community College and the University of Kansas with a Bachelor of Arts degree in American History. Shannon worked tirelessly and received her Juris Doctorate with Honors from Washburn School of Law, Topeka. She began her career in private practice, then worked for the Appellate Defender’s office in Topeka. Shannon moved back to Hutchinson in 1990, and worked for Kansas Legal Services for 19 years. In 2009, she opened Hutchinson Legal Clinic which is now Crane Law since 2014.&nbsp;

Shannon was a lover of all things KU and Chiefs football. She loved all her animals, especially her dogs. Shannon had great interest in genealogy and a passion for people. She was community minded and enjoyed volunteering at places such as the Reno County Food Bank and United Way.&nbsp;

Shannon is survived by: son, Thad (Malia) Crane, Alpharetta, GA; grandchildren, Miller, Dylan, and Kendall Crane, all of Alpharetta, GA; brother, Kevin Crane, Wichita; sister, Stephanie Crane, Hutchinson; ex-wife, friend, and colleague, Barbara Scholes, Hutchinson (her children Brett Scholes, Hutchinson and Taylor Scholes, Overland Park); nieces, Anna Crane, Wichita and Mandy Smith, Lindsborg; and nephew, Brett Crane, Orlando, FL.&nbsp;

Daniel Earl Hesket, 62, of Haven, Kansas, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2024 in Cheney, Kansas. He was born on June 21, 1962 in Arkansas City, Kansas, to Merle Gary and Judy (Martin) Hesket.

He graduated from Fort Hays State University with Bachelor’s Degrees in Industrial Arts and Biology and later received his Master’s Degree in Wildlife Management.

Dan was united in marriage to Vallie Dunnegan on September 13, 1993.

Dan worked for the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks as a Game Warden, Boating Law Administrator, and eventually retired as the Assistant Director of Law Enforcement. Dan later worked as a rural mail carrier for the Cheney, Kansas post office.

Dan was an award winning board member of the National Association of Boating Law Administrators.

Dan is survived by his wife of 30 years, Vallie Hesket, of the home; mother, Judy (John) Bingham, of Mankato, KS; children, Amy (Jeff) Bryant of Colwich, and Matt (Sarah) Kuhn of Parkville, MO; grandchildren, Lily, Lainey, Kingston, Ashton, Rylan and Kyler; and three sisters, Debra (Dan) carl of North Platte, NE, Sharon (Mark) Sahlfeld of Beloit, and Diana Sanpaka of Kiowa, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Gary Hesket.

Fern Amelia Wilson, 82, of McPherson, KS and formerly of Hesston, KS and Colorado, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, July 2, 2024, surrounded by family at McPherson Health and Rehab.

She was born on March 30, 1942, in Hays, KS, the daughter of Gabriel Joseph and Barbara Marie (VonFeldt) Zimmerman.&nbsp; She graduated from Girls Catholic High School of Hays.&nbsp; On July 25, 1970, Fern was united in marriage to Harold Amos Wilson in Hutchinson, KS.&nbsp; He preceded her in death on September 14, 1998.

Fern worked as a polisher at American Maplan in McPherson and was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Newton.

Survivors include her daughters, Suzie Taylor (Danny) of Northglenn, CO and Sandy Kelly (Danny) of Hesston, KS; a step-son, Harold Wilson, Jr. of Hutchinson, KS; brother, Jim Zimmerman (Carla) of Kansas City; three sisters, Gloria Callow (Doug), Betty Ridout, and Barbara Henderson, all of Greeley, CO; six grandchildren, Joshua Hayes, Zachary Hayes, Justin Tillett (Patricia), Jeremy Slick (Alicia), Destyne Bennethum (Erik), and Jessica Unruh (Keith); 12 great-grandchildren; and many extended family members and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and a son, Donnie Jo Ward.

A Rosary will be held at 10:00 AM, Friday, August 9, 2024, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Newton, KS.&nbsp; A graveside service will follow at 11:30 AM, Friday, August 9, at Fairlawn Burial Park in Hutchinson.&nbsp;

Patsy Ruth “Pat” Fors, 87, died July 10, 2024, at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. &nbsp;She was born March 19, 1937, in Stafford, to Lloyd Walter and Cleo Alice (Wright) Helm. &nbsp;Pat’s mother died when she was just five years old. &nbsp;Her dad later married Wilma Alice Jones, who helped raise Pat.

Pat graduated from Nickerson High School, in 1954, and retired from Southwestern Bell Telephone Company after over 30 years of service. &nbsp;She enjoyed reading, traveling, and playing games. &nbsp;Pat was a member of the Red Had Society, Lit and Latte Book Club, and Communications Workers of America (CWA).&nbsp;

On October 9, 1954, she married Richard Lee Stacey Fors, in Hutchinson. &nbsp;He died October 20, 2016, after they shared 62 years of marriage.

Pat is survived by: &nbsp;sons, Nathan Fors (Barbara Hall) of Kansas City, MO, Steven Fors of Coeur d'Alene, ID, Stacey Fors (Brenna Erickson) of Kansas City, MO, and Daniel Fors of Spearfish, SD; grandchildren, Ethan Avalos, Derek Fors, Reade Fors, Paige Fors (Karyn King), and Nash Fors (Ashley); and great-grandchildren, Spencer Fors, Charlotte Fors, Mia Fors, Bella Barrera, and Rio Fors.

She was preceded in death by: her parents; stepmother, Wilma Alice (Jones) Helm; and three brothers.&nbsp;

Virgil A. Wedel, 79, of Canton, Kansas, passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024 at Pine Village in Moundridge, Kansas. He was born on September 2, 1944 in McPherson, Kansas, to LaVern and Clara (Bliss) Wedel.

He graduated from Moundridge High School with the class of 1962.

Virgil worked as a soil technician for the USDA for over 20 years.

He loved watching westerns, camping, watching his grandkids play sports, riding motorcycles and spending time with friends and family. Virgil enjoyed taking his daughter, Lanette, to church.

He was united in marriage to Louretta K. Vogts on October 16, 1965 in Canton, Kansas. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include his son, Troy (Carrie) Wedel of Elizabeth, CO; daughters, Lanette Wedel of McPherson, and Paula (Chris) Miller of Hesston; brothers, Terry (Cathy) Wedel of Roger, AR, and Tracy (Cece) Wedel of Newton; three grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Virgil was preceded in death by his parents; and son, James Wedel.

Patricia “Pati” Ann (Stovall) Antonio passed away peacefully on July 4th at the age of 69 after a hard fought battle with cancer. She was born June 26, 1955 in Newton, Kansas to Milford and Fern Stovall. She grew up in Peabody and graduated from Newton High School. After high school, she completed vocational school in Wichita to become a Licensed Practical Nurse.&nbsp;

Pati had a servant’s heart serving 47 years as a dedicated nurse in the geriatric field. She gave over 30 years of service to Friendly Acres/Asbury Park/Paramount Community Living &amp; Rehab facility. Pati’s dedication to her patients was never questioned. She loved and cared for them deeply. She would say, “treat them the way we would want someone to take care of our family member.” She loved to teach new nurses and nurses aides. She believed that you never ask someone to do something you are not willing to do yourself. Her strength, integrity and devotion inspired others. As her friends and colleagues would say: “She was one of a kind!”

Pati was the biggest Denver Broncos fan. She would be the first to argue with a Kansas City Chiefs fan and defend her team. She loved to place fun bets with others, many times losing and having to wear something Chiefs related. Pati had a love for animals. There was never an animal that she met in which she didn’t think was “cute.” From strays to homeless pets, she loved them all! Pati also loved nature. She cherished the time she spent watching the birds and squirrels at the farm. She enjoyed camping, fishing, riding 4-wheelers and traveling.&nbsp;

Pati was a devoted mother and loving grandmother. Family was everything to her and her greatest accomplishment! She found the most joy from spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren after retirement. She was preceded in death by her father, Milford. She is survived by Michael Antonio, Fern Stovall (Mother), Sister Sharon Edmonds (Larry), Daughters Christine Carter (Roger) and Michelle Herrman (Cory), 7 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.&nbsp;

Pati impacted so many lives and will be greatly missed. A celebration of life will be held on August 9th at Paramount Community Living &amp; Rehab Chapel in Newton (200 SW 14th Street) from 2 to 5 PM. Please feel free to come and go during this time. Betty Jo (Honn) Cavin, 95, went to be with her Heavenly Father at 8:32 a.m. on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at Pine Village in Moundridge, Kansas.&nbsp;

Betty was born on April 14, 1929 to Lawrence Evan Honn and Anna Matilta (Koweppen) Honn in Attica, Kansas. After the death of her mother in 1934, when Betty was only 5 years old, she was raised by her grandparents, Elmer and Altha Honn.&nbsp; She grew up on a farm 6 miles north of Attica. At the age of 10 years old, her grandfather, Elmer, passed away leaving her and her grandmother to take care of the farm. Betty's Uncle John came over and taught her her how to milk the cows, which fortunately she liked to do.&nbsp; She milked 4 cows every morning by 7:30 a.m. and then still left in time to make it to school without being late.

At the age of 9 or 10 she began taking piano lessons. Due to this being in the depression, her grandmother paid for her piano lessons with produce, jellies, jams and even chickens. The bartering system served her well.&nbsp;

She received Jesus Christ as her Savior on December 19, 1946 at the age of 17.&nbsp; She graduated from Attica High School in 1947.&nbsp; After graduation she left the farm to go to Baptist Bible Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.&nbsp; This was quite an adjustment for a 'farm girl'.

On December 1, 1949, she married the love of her life, Dean Cavin.&nbsp; Betty was preceded in death by Dean on July 11, 2019.&nbsp; They were blessed in their marriage with 69 years together, only missing 70 yrs by 5 months with Dean's passing.&nbsp; Their love is a wonderful example to their children and grandchildren that love can last and persevere.&nbsp;&nbsp;In 1950 Betty and Dean went to Baptist Bible College. Dean was studying to become a pastor.&nbsp; Betty used her talents of piano playing in every church Dean pastored. She felt that God gave her that talent just for that reason and was thankful for it.&nbsp;&nbsp;The focus of her life was being a good wife, a good mother to their two children and being the best preacher's wife she could be by helping her husband in the ministry for nearly 60 years.

She leaves behind her son, Joel and wife Georgia of Virginia Beach, Virginia; her daughter Sara Just and husband Dennis of Newton, Kansas; 10 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other family and friends.

Memorials may be designated in her memory to Faith Baptist Church, Attica, Kansas.

Myron Duane Biehler, 71, of Lyons, Kansas, passed away July 8, 2024, at his home. He was born February 15, 1953, in Lyons, the son of Howard R. and Lois J. (Doughty) Biehler. Myron was a lifelong Rice County resident. He graduated from Bushton High School with the class of 1971, and later attended Garden City Community College, where he ran track and played football. Myron was a cowboy and craftsman. He was a member of the Frederick Baptist Church, where he was baptized; and was a lifetime member of the NRA. Myron enjoyed horses, horseshoeing, and welding. 

Myron is survived by his seven children, Roger Biehler and wife Brandy of Ashland, KS, Troy Biehler and wife Catie of Hutchinson, KS, Melinda Brewton and husband Lucas of Concord, NC, Lyndsey Winter and husband Aaron of Wichita, KS, Alex Biehler and wife Amanda of Winston-Salem, NC, Josh Biehler and fiancé Liza Johnson of Wichita, KS, and Robert Biehler of Wichita, KS; brother, Merle Biehler of Great Bend, KS; sister, Kathy Drake and husband Dave of Great Bend, KS; ten grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Gwen Rogers.

Funeral service will be at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with Pastor Curtis Fitzgerald officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00 until 7:00 P.M., Monday, July 15, 2024, at Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons, with family present. Burial will follow at the Frederick Cemetery, Frederick, KS. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Reins of Hope in care of Birzer Funeral Home, Lyons.

Michael Wayne Butler, 67, of McPherson, KS, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, July 9, 2024, surrounded by his family at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center.&nbsp;

He was born on May 8, 1957, in Hutchinson, KS, the second son of Jerry M. and Dorothy A. (Decker) Butler.&nbsp; Mike graduated from McPherson High School in 1975.&nbsp; On June 3, 1977, He was united in marriage to Julie Ann Schlehuber in Canton, KS.&nbsp; This union was blessed with two children, Dustin and Sarah.

Mike worked as a pipeline and station operator at Enterprise Products (MAPCO &amp; Williams Energy) for over 30 years.&nbsp;

Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Julie; a son, Dustin (Katie) Butler of Lawrence, KS; a daughter, Sarah (J.D.) Reeves of Augusta, KS; four grandchildren, Addison Butler, Jacie Butler, Avery Swemke, and Rylen Reeves; a brother, Steve Butler of McPherson, KS; and a beloved black lab, Maggie May.

A celebration of life (come &amp; go) will be held from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM, Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.&nbsp;

Jean Loreen Newton was born on October 8, 1942 and welcomed into God’s loving arms on July 7, 2024.

Jean joined our Diversicare Family on August 23, 2023. Prior to her admission to our center, Jean lived in the Hutchinson community. It isn’t uncommon to have residents in our center that come without much of a history, but we were able to gather some information about our sweet friend.

Jean reported to her best friend and roommate, Cindy, that she grew up in Pratt, KS. She told her she finished 7th grade, then began working. Jean said she was close to her mother growing up and had a brother. She did have a significant other who passed away from cancer a number of years ago. She did not have any children and she did not believe she had any living family members.

But a person’s history is only a fraction of his or her story. In her 11 months with us, Jean touched many hearts with her kindness, and her final chapter was a beautiful one.

Jean was never without a smile. She often spoke about how lucky she was to get to live in our center surrounded by her friends. She loved animals, playing BINGO, doing puzzles, and reading her romance novels. She didn’t talk much about her faith but did say that she was Baptist and that she very much enjoyed Bible Study. She did talk about the Chiefs, though! And even convinced her roommate who had never much enjoyed football to watch every game of the 23-24 season.

We didn’t need to know about her past to know what an honor it was to be a part of her present. Jean was such a blessing to our Diversicare Family and will be forever missed.

Jacqueline (Jacquie) Susanne Balzer passed away peacefully early Friday July 5. She was the daughter of Jack and Betty Clifton. She was born in Kensington, KS and lived most of her life in Newton, KS. She met the love of her life in high school, Francis Balzer. They were married on September 16, 1967, and have been inseparable ever since.&nbsp;

Jacquie was mother to three children raising them to be loving, caring and faithful individuals. She and Fran lived their dream of owning a business, Fran’s Carpet Gallery. She also worked as an Executive Assistant at Prairie View. She loved to read, and following retirement, she donated her time at their church, Koerner Heights acting as the librarian. The joy of her life was her family. Trips to the lake (even though she couldn’t swim), taking the grandkids to antique stores to get a small gift, a quick trip to Sonic or Braums and playing games (but had to read the instructions first - which drove the family crazy). She especially loved Christmas when she filled her home with every homemade Christmas cookie and snack possible. She loved the tradition of attending the Christmas Eve service at Koerner Heights, then coming home to eat chili and opening gifts as the whole family.

She is proceeded in death by her parents Jack and Betty Clifton, her grandmother and uncle that were so special to her, Faye Clifton and David Clifton, and her brother Gary Clifton. She leaves behind her sole mate, Francis Balzer, three children Jason (Stacy) Balzer, Stefanie (Steve) Roth and David (Amanda) Balzer and 8 grandchildren (the joys of her life): Jeremy Balzer, Sydney Balzer, Tyler Roth, Jaden Roth, Paige Roth, Taylor Balzer, Mason Balzer and Gavin Balzer.&nbsp;

Jacquie’s visitation and Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday July 11th from 5:00 – 8:00 PM (visitation) and Friday July 12th at 2:00 PM (Celebration of Life) at Koerner Heights Church, followed by a Graveside service at Newton’s Greenwood Cemetery. All are welcome to join the Balzer family for a light dinner at Koerner Heights immediately after the Graveside service.

Mark Allen Sutton, 61, passed away Monday, July 8, 2024 at Pratt Regional Medical Center. He was born on July 20, 1962 in Nashville, Kansas to Oliver Lee Sutton and Jean (Harding) Jenson.

Mark attended Cullison High School. He was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church. He enjoyed playing guitar and listening to music, especially 70's and 90's Rock. He also enjoyed attending car shows and races.

He is survived by his sister, Gale (Ralph) Voss of Pratt; brother in-law, Mike Carmichael of Cullison; and several nieces and nephews as well as many greats and great-great nieces and nephews.

Mark is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Sue Carmichael; and brother, Larry (Denise) Sutton.

Cremation has taken place. A graveside memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, August 9, 2024 at Coats Cemetery, Coats with The Reverend Karen Lemon presiding.

'The rumble of the pipes told her he'd arrived. Her leather-clad knight on his steed of chrome. She'd waited for him for what felt like forever.'

Gibbo Pierson, 96, rode off into the sunset on July 8, 2024. He was born on July 15, 1927, in the Hutchinson home his grandfather built at 734 Cole Ave. It is the property he returned to and lived out his life on. Gibbo was the son of Charlie Con and Isabel (Cole) Pierson.

On April 22, 1947, Gibbo married Georgia Robinson. They shared 75 years of marriage before her death on March 11, 2022.

Gibbo retired from Cessna in 1967 and, together with his wife Georgia, began running their leather shop, Gibbo's Saddle and Leather, full-time for the next 50 years. He made a name for himself as being highly skilled in custom leather craft.

After raising their two daughters, Gibbo and Georgia traveled extensively. They especially enjoyed the many years they traveled along the Pacific coast of Mexico in their motor home for three to six months at a time.

In his 74 years of motorcycling, Gibbo rode countless miles throughout the United States and abroad. He'd ridden in 13 of the 25 different countries he'd traveled to. His favorite place to ride was through the Swiss Alps. He was thrilled to attend the annual motorcycle race on the Isle of Man in the Irish Sea. He had countless adventures riding through Mexico to the Pacific coast and traveling up and down that coast many times.

Gibbo was a member of a black powder club, the Prairie Pups Motorcycle Club, and rode with both chapters of the ROMEOS. He was a lifetime member of the American Motorcycle Association and rode until he was 91.

A builder of motorcycles, he built several choppers, one of which was featured in Chopper Magazine in 1970. Gibbo built houses with Habitat for Humanity locally, as well as in Alabama and Paraguay. He volunteered with the Reno County Toy Run and with Reins of Hope, both from their inception. Gibbo is one of Hatteburg's people and was also featured in Hutchinson magazine. Gibbo built the homes he lived in with his own hands.

Gibbo left this world, having done everything he'd dreamed of doing and having traveled everywhere he'd ever wanted to go. Whether bicycling the Yucatan, cruising through the Panama Canal, or attending Arctic Man in Alaska, his life was one of adventure!

Gibbo worked hard to provide for his family. He was always there for his parents and siblings in the very last moments of their lives. His family was very important to him.

He had many lifetime friends who could always count on him. There was never a time in Gibbo's life that he was not helping others, many times behind the scenes, and that is his legacy.

Gibbo is survived by his two daughters, Bonny Pierson and Bunny Dellinger, one grandchild, and one great-grandchild.

In Heaven, he joins his wife, Georgia; parents; son-in-law, Ed Dellinger; sisters, Vera, Veora, and Roseamond; brothers, Elmo, Clyde, and John Paul.

Tyler Yang Furness (Lakey) was joyfully welcomed as he crawled into the arms of Jesus on Saturday July 6, 2024.

Tyler was born on October 4th, 2023 in Newton to Aubrie Lakey and Gordon Furness.

Tyler loved his momma, his face lit up when she entered the room. At nine months old, a few of Tyler's favorite things were crawling, eating food (especially when momma made it with grown up food in it), going on walks to the library, reading Llama Llama books, and saying "bubba". Tyler had started daycare at Angel Wings in Newton where he quickly gained the affections of his teachers. He was increasingly happy to be among groups of people and share smiles and giggles.

In addition to his parents, Tyler leaves behind his half-siblings: Isaac, Emily, and Rachel Furness of McPherson, his maternal grandparents Chris and Tami Lakey of Newton and paternal grandparents Charles and Carrie Furness of Solomon, KS. Also surviving are great-grandparents Emil and Ralene Bergquist of Park City, Robert and Sharon Lakey of Wichita, and TJ and Eileen Rohleder of Lehigh.

Sweet Tyler will be so greatly missed by his aunties and uncles: Ashleigh, Austin and Emma, Amy, Anna, and Abraham Lakey. His precious cousins, Cora and Charlotte Lakey, will miss playing with him. Many more loving extended family members and friends also share in our sorrow.

Darrell Richard Halbert, 77, of McPherson, Kansas, passed away Saturday, July 1, 2024, at his residence.

Darrell was born in Little River, Kansas on May 4, 1947, the son of Darrell Vance and Lillian Alma (Langhammer) Halbert.

Darrell attended Windom grade school and graduated from Windom High School.

Through the years Darrell worked for WR Mill, Kansas Dept. of Corrections and Kentucky Dept. of Corrections.

Darrell enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, golfing, race cars and dirt track racing, car shows and spending time with his friends and family.

Darrell was united in marriage to Evelyn Stevens on August 7,1982 in McPherson. Evelyn died March 3, 2023.

He is survived by his children, Tondra (Robert) Fry of Mansfield, TX, Jacque (Blake) Cutrer of St. Francisville, LA, and Richard T. Halbert of Shreveport, LA; step daughter, Sandy (David) Abell, of Louisville, KY; step son, Craig (Kathy) Stephens of Phoenix, AZ; brothers, Larry Halbert of Medora, KS, Kurt Halbert of Hutchinson, KS, and Alan (Christine) Halbert of Lyons, KS; sister, Ruby (Tony) Navarro of Emporia, KS; and 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

Darrell was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Evelyn; and sister, Linda Hutchinson.

Dennis W. Teter, 81, of Buhler, died July 7, 2024, at his home. He was born April 12, 1943, in Hutchinson, to Melvin “Mutt” and Norma (Schanbacher) Teter.&nbsp;

Dennis graduated from Buhler High School in 1961 and attended Hutchinson Community College, where he attained his associate degree. For his bachelor’s degree in business, Dennis attended the University of Kansas, where he graduated first in his class. He worked as a certified public accountant for over 40 years.&nbsp;

Dennis was a devoted fan of Jayhawk basketball and the Hutchinson Blue Dragons. He enjoyed attending the rodeo and watching stock car races. Wherever Dennis went, he always carried a book with him. While he particularly appreciated reading western stories, all books and genres were welcome to him. &nbsp;

On June 12, 1971, he married Sherry J. Beavers at Bethany Church of the Nazarene. They shared 51 years of marriage, before her death on February 9, 2023.&nbsp;

Dennis is survived by: daughter, Amy (Marshall) Jackson of Nickerson; son, Justin (Amy Speirs) Teter of Wichita; brother, Douglas (Vicki) Teter of Hutchinson; grandchildren, Elizabeth Teter, Jasmyne Armstrong, Kaylee Teter, Draven Armstrong; great-grandchild, Hazel Murray; numerous nieces and nephews; and beloved grand-pup Apollo.&nbsp;

He was preceded in death by: his parents; wife, Sherry Teter; sister, Peggy Moffett; brother, Richard Teter, and infant brother, Billy.&nbsp;

Cremation has taken place. Celebration of life will take place at a later date.&nbsp;

Carl Lee Thompson, age 74, of McPherson, KS, peacefully entered his Heavenly home on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at Select Specialty Hospital (St. Francis) in Wichita.

Born on July 28, 1949, in Beloit, KS, Carl was the son of Glen S. and Iris A. (Maley) Thompson. On October 28, 1967, he was united in marriage to Karla Kay Bose at St. John Lutheran Church in Athol, Kansas.

Carl worked as a line supervisor at Kit Manufacturing and later retired from ATP (Keystone Railway), where he worked in fabrication and was a machine operator. Beyond his full-time job, he oversaw maintenance for Oak Park Townhomes for several years.

A man of many passions, Carl found joy in playing pool, practicing martial arts, and engaging in carpentry projects. However, the greatest delight of his life was his granddaughters, Avery and Cadence, who were the apple of his eye. Known for his generosity, Carl would give the shirt off his back to help others in need. He was a devoted husband, father, and a friend to all who knew him.

Carl’s patriotism was evident in his service to his country in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War where he was a Radar Operator. He was a life member of the McPherson V.F.W. Post #2715, where he was a past officer and contributed to many of the post’s activities.&nbsp; In 2017, Carl had the opportunity to travel to Washington, DC as part of the Kansas Honor Flight.

He leaves behind his beloved wife of 56 years, Karla; his sons, Kyle Thompson and Chad Thompson, both of McPherson, KS; and his treasured granddaughters, Avery and Cadence Thompson. He is also survived by his brothers, Allen, Terry, and Tracy Thompson; his sister, Vola Conrad; and numerous extended family members and friends.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Robert “Bob,” Arthur “Archie,” Dale, and Billy Thompson; and his sisters, Elsie Crawford and Pearl Tieking.

A celebration of Carl’s life, with Military Honors, will be held at 1:00 PM on Sunday, July 28, 2024, at the McPherson V.F.W. Post #2715, 120 S. Taft St., McPherson, KS, commemorating what would have been his 75th birthday.

David C. Moore, 87 died July 6, 2024, at his Rural Sedgwick Home. He was born March 13, 1937, in Dover Pope, Arkansas to David and Retna Ann (Jones) Moore. On December 18, 1955, he married Joyce Hardiman at Wichita, Kansas and she survives of the home.

David was a retired construction equipment operator. He was a longtime active member of the Liberty Baptist Church in Newton.

David is survived by his wife Joyce of the home; son David (Barbara) Moore; daughters Nancy (Bob) Ulrich and Susan (David) McDonald; brother Lynn Moore; sister Shirley Jeffers. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents and one infant son Gary Alan Moore.

Funeral service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, July 12, 2024, at Liberty Baptist Church in Newton with Pastor Steve Julius presiding. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at Petersen Funeral Home with the family receiving friends until 8:00 p.m. Burial will be in the Hillside Cemetery in Sedgwick, Kansas.

Memorials may be made to Folds of Honor and left in care of Petersen Funeral Home.
