Notify charge nurse/Unit Care Coordinator of problems that arise during shift. Propose/execute corrective actions as needed.

Evaluate care provided to residents by team members. Be able to cope with mental and emotional stress related to this position. Be able to function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and consistency.

Assist in meeting and maintaining the established standards of nursing care for residents in assigned area.

Assist in the ongoing development, updating and execution of the resident plan of care.

Assist with resident assessments and documentation as per facility policies.

Delegate appropriate tasks to other members of the nursing team consistent with their job descriptions, certification and licensure for this state. Supervise and evaluate quality completion of those tasks.

Maintain communication with resident family, legal Health Care representative regarding resident condition, needs and changes in Plan of Care. Communicate these needs and changes to nursing Coordinator and at shift report.

Serve as a positive role model to staff, residents and families at all times, communicating positively and effectively to maintain quality atmosphere of warmth, personal interest and positive focus with the holistic well-being of the resident as the focal point for each day.

Assist with planning and implementing appropriate therapeutic individual and small group activities to fulfill resident’s needs/interests.

Execute and direct nursing care in accordance with regulations, guidelines, standards and Wesley Towers policy.

Perform duties of CNA, CMA, or other nursing staff as needed to fulfill the resident’s individualized plan of care. Provide residents with opportunities for independence and choice consistent with their care plan.

The resident is number one at Wesley Towers. Therefore job duties can include anything that helps the resident to attain or maintain the highest possible functioning. These tasks must be within the nurses’ scope of practice depending on whether he/she is an LPN or an RN.

GENERAL DUTIES include, but are not limited to:

Interpret the individualized plan of care for each resident to other members of the team.

Supervise CNA's and CMA's in providing quality, personalized care for each resident in assigned area.

Together with CMA or another professional nurse, complete count of restricted drugs as necessary.

Together with unit coordinator, assure that the resident's physician is notified of changes in condition and that the physician's plan of care is carried out.

Attend Care Planning sessions for assigned residents when possible.

Complete documentation on resident's chart as applicable: document resident response and outcomes to the plan of care.

Initiate appropriate action as resident needs arise.

Work with and cooperate with facility consultants and implement changes as authorized by DON.

Ensure all procedures for administration, storage, ordering, disposal, control of medications and supplies are followed by personnel.

Demonstrate safety and cost effectiveness in the delivery of care according to standards/policies/procedures/regulations.

Practice universal precautions and proper disposal of infectious waste at all times. Perform TB testing as needed for residents. Perform TB testing to team members as directed by Home Health Coordinator.

Report incidents/accidents and exposures according to policy. Assist in identifying safety hazards and emergency situations and initiate immediate action as needed.

Respond to emergency calls throughout the Wesley Towers’ complex as assigned.

Assist residents with transfers, promote ambulation and exercises, transport residents as needed and as designated on resident Plan of Care using gait belts, proper transfer techniques and lifts per facility policy and procedure.

Use and operate equipment in a safe manner. Report unsafe or defective equipment. Follow all safety precautions.

Note safety hazards and report/correct them immediately.

Assist in the nursing process as requested by the DON and UCC and according to licensure by the State.

Assist in the continuous service improvement process as requested by DON, UCC or CSI committee.

Is aware of location/content of all standards/policy/procedure manuals, safety data sheets, and how to use them. Is familiar with all regulations governing nursing and resident care, and is aware of the location of these.

Cooperate with all personnel within and between departments, customers and outside contacts in a team-like atmosphere.

Currently licensed as an (LPN or RN) in the State of Kansas.

Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.

Capable of understanding, following and/or issuing oral and written instructions.

Ability to communicate with other licensed nurses and to accept counsel from his/her unit coordinator.

Ability to develop positive rapport with other staff, residents, families, and other departments.

Former FBI Director James Comey faces possible indictment

“We will not let this cowardly attack impede our efforts to secure the border, enforce immigration law, and ensure law and order,” Abbott said.

Dallas Police Chief Daniel Comeaux told reporters that officers responded to a report of four people shot, with two dead. Authorities initially said three people, including the shooter, had been shot.

Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin told Fox News that no ICE agents were injured.

“We believe he was shooting at law enforcement and detainees from an apartment building,” McLaughlin said. “Detainees were among the victims of the shooting.”

The FBI said during the news conference that it was investigating the shooting as “an act of targeted violence.”

The attack is the latest public, targeted killing in the U.S. and comes two weeks after conservative leader Charlie Kirk&nbsp;<a href="https://apnews.com/article/charlie-kirk-conservative-activist-shot-546165a8151104e0938a5e085be1e8bd">was killed</a>&nbsp;by a rifle-wielding shooter on a roof.

Officers responded to a call to assist an officer on North Stemmons Freeway around 6:40 a.m. Wednesday and determined that someone opened fire at a government building from an adjacent building, Dallas police spokesperson Officer Jonathen E. Maner said in an email.

The Dallas Fire-Rescue Department was also dispatched after a call reporting a shooting at or near the immigration office, department spokesperson Jason L. Evans said in an email.

Parkland Hospital received two patients from the shooting, hospital spokesperson April Foran said by telephone. She did not have any details about their conditions.

A third person died at the scene after the shooting, Maner said.

Dozens of emergency vehicles were seen along a highway near the facility.

The ICE facility is along Interstate 35 East, just southwest of Dallas Love Field, a large commercial airport serving the Dallas-Fort Worth metropolitan area, and just blocks from hotels catering to airport travelers.

Traffic cameras near the scene showed six lanes of a normally busy freeway empty, with cars and semitrailers ground to a halt on an interstate exit.

Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said details were still emerging, but the agency was confirming there were “multiple injuries and fatalities” at the field office. Noem said the motive remained unclear, but noted there has been an uptick in targeting of ICE agents.

ICE and Homeland Security didn’t immediately provide additional details.

The Hutchinson branch of the NAACP is preparing for its annual Freedom Fund Dinner, set for Saturday, Oct. 4, at the 1861 Club on the Kansas State Fairgrounds.

NAACP Hutchinson Branch President Calvin Wright and Vice President Darryl Pope said the dinner is the organization’s only major fundraiser of the year, providing essential support for its mission to advance equity, eliminate discrimination, and promote political, social, and educational inclusion in the community.

“We work to make sure that Black voices are heard, demands are met, and Black excellence is amplified—from classrooms and courtrooms to City Hall and Congress,” Wright said.

The evening will feature keynote speaker Dirk Lawson, a civil rights attorney and former general counsel for the NAACP’s national office. Attendees will also hear a presentation on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s journey through Alabama from community partner Jim Davis of Common Ground.

The Freedom Fund Dinner begins with doors opening at 5 p.m. and the program at 6 p.m. The event includes a silent auction and raffle. Tickets are available by donation at $75 per person or $144 per couple. Tables and sponsorships are also available. Business attire is requested.

Hutchinson NAACP to hold Annual Freedom Fund Dinner

Stage 9 will open its fall production, Into the Breeches, this Thursday, bringing a blend of Shakespeare, wartime history, and humor to downtown Hutchinson.

Directed by Wes Bartlett, the play is set in 1942 as a community theater struggles to produce Shakespeare’s Henry IV and Henry V while most of the men are serving overseas. With no male actors available, Maggie, the wife of the theater’s director, assembles an all-female cast to carry on the tradition.

“It’s kind of like real life Rosie the Riveters, except instead of airplanes, the women took over the stage,” Bartlett said. “There’s humor in how the women step into these roles, but also deeper social issues that still resonate today.”

Wendy Pope, who stars as Maggie, described her character as resourceful and determined. “She’s sort of an Anne of Green Gables in 1942,” Pope said. “She has to think quickly to persuade the board president to let her direct the show.” Pope’s husband, James, also appears in the cast as the skeptical board president, Mr. Snow.

The cast features eight performers—six women and two men—highlighting the play’s theme of women stepping into new roles during World War II. Bartlett said rehearsals began in late July, and despite scheduling challenges and even rehearsing in a downtown storefront before set construction, the group is ready for opening night.

Costumes posed another challenge. “We found Elizabethan pieces at Stage 9, but when it came to World War II uniforms, everything we borrowed was too small,” Bartlett said with a laugh.

The set, designed with help from Aaron Parker, is intentionally simple. “I wanted everything on stage from the beginning with minimal changes,” Bartlett said. “That way the focus stays on the story and the performers.”

Performances will be held at Stage 9, 9 S. Main, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, with a 3 p.m. matinee on Sunday. Tickets are available at <a>stage9hutch.com</a> or at the door, though seating is limited.

Bartlett said audiences can expect both laughter and poignancy. “When the women begin speaking Shakespeare’s lines with conviction, especially in the final scene, it’s incredibly moving—both patriotic and personal,” he said.

He finished his playing career as the Big Eight Conference career passing leader. As head coach, he led the Cowboys to the best era of sustained success in program history, highlighted by a Big 12 championship in 2011, five New Year's Six bowl appearances and eight 10-win seasons. His 170 career coaching victories are 108 more than any other coach in school history."College football has changed drastically in the last few years, and the investment needed to compete at the highest level has never been more important," Weiberg said.

🏈 Oklahoma State fires coach Mike Gundy after 21 seasons

Despite the heavy rain, construction on the new Hutchinson YMCA is not only on track but slightly ahead of schedule. Construction at 20th and Lorraine is now entering a new phase, one that the community will be able to celebrate together.

This Thursday evening, from 6 to 7 p.m., residents are invited to a special beam-signing event at the construction site. One of the final steel beams will be set in place soon, and before that happens, community members are welcome to leave their names on it. Unlike most building signatures that are later hidden by walls or drywall, this beam will remain exposed in the ceiling near the main entrance — a permanent reminder of the community’s role in the project.

“It’s a neat way for families, members, and even non-members to take part in history,” said David Foster, Executive Director of the Hutchinson YMCA. “This YMCA belongs to the entire community, and we wanted to create something people can see and feel proud of for years to come.”

Foster said crews have worked through the wet weather thanks to Simpson Construction’s planning and the use of precast walls and beams staged on-site. “Even on days when I figured there wouldn’t be any activity, they’ve found a way to keep things moving,” Foster said. With much of the parking lot infrastructure already complete, equipment and materials have been able to move in and out without significant delay.

Crews are expected to have the building fully enclosed by Thanksgiving. Temporary heating systems will then allow work to continue indoors throughout the winter, keeping the project on pace for a 2026 opening.

The new YMCA will feature a wide variety of amenities designed to meet the needs of families, seniors, and individuals. Among the highlights: •&nbsp;&nbsp;A one-seventh-mile indoor walking and jogging track with exterior windows and interior views of YMCA activity areas. •&nbsp;&nbsp;Three stand-alone fitness studios, including a cycle studio and a mind-body studio for yoga and wellness classes. •&nbsp;&nbsp;A dedicated gymnastics center, freeing up space previously shared with other programs. •&nbsp;&nbsp;A space-themed climbing structure in the family center, developed in partnership with the Cosmosphere — a feature unique to Hutchinson.

Foster noted that the YMCA’s fall programming remains active at the current facility, with more than 500 youth participating in soccer and tackle football leagues this season, alongside swim lessons and gymnastics programs. Registration for fall basketball is also underway.

Membership Options and Corporate Wellness

Memberships at the YMCA remain affordable, with options for families, individuals, and seniors. Standard adult memberships are $59.90 per month, while seniors receive a discounted rate. Corporate wellness programs are also growing, with nearly two dozen local businesses enrolled. Companies can choose to pay all or part of the membership fees for employees, with the YMCA covering a portion as well.

“Workplace wellness programs help with both physical and mental health,” Foster said. “We’re seeing more employers recognize that and partner with us.”

The new facility is made possible by partnerships and local support, including a land donation from Hutchinson Regional Medical Center. Foster also credited the YMCA’s board of directors for its foresight and willingness to join the Greater Wichita YMCA network, ensuring Hutchinson has access to expanded resources and programming.

“We’ve always had strong volunteer leadership here,” Foster said. “Joining the Greater Wichita Y was a big decision, but it’s been a win-win for everyone involved.”

For now, Foster says the beam signing is a chance to mark progress and give the public a hands-on connection to the project. “It’s not every day you get to sign your name on a building that’s going to serve the community for generations,” he said.

The beam-signing event is open to everyone, regardless of YMCA membership. Parking will be available off 20th Street in the south lot, with signs directing visitors to the event area.

“This facility is going to be a source of pride for Hutchinson,” Foster said. “Thursday night is just the beginning of that story.”
