HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Medicare enrollment window is from Oct. 15 to Dec. 7, so the Senior Health Insurance Counseling for Kansas (SHICK) grant funded state program is looking to help again this year. Call ahead to set an appointment at the Department of Aging at (620) 694-2911.
"We can give them at least a list of things that they can bring in with them to make the appointment go extremely smooth," said Natalie Goertzen with the Department on Aging. "Those things would be if they can bring their Medicare card, it would be nice because we need to know exactly how it's with Medicare and then their prescription drugs and possibly like a list that's nice and written so we can read it and if not, they can bring the actual prescription bottle in and then we can see how it's being taken."
You can get a printed list of the medications you take from your pharmacy.
"This year there are many, many changes so we encourage people to double check what they have, read the information that is sent from their plan," Goertzen said. "If they have questions, they need to give us a call."
They will give you plenty of time so that they get your changes right, if you need to make any.
"What we're trying to do is allow at least an hour for the client so we have time to visit with them if there are any questions or concerns," Goertzen said. "Then, of course, just go through the website with them and make sure they're comfortable with the decision that they've made."
