HUTCHINSON, Kan.—Both the Boys and Girls Salthawk basketball teams had big wins in the sweep of Newton Friday night at the Salthawk Activity Center. The Hutch High Girls got a strong performance from Sophomore Mya Thompson on the inside and shut down Newton in the 2nd quarter to hold the Railers scoreless after Newton had cut the Hutch lead to 9-7 at the end of the 1st quarter.
Hutchinson played well enough in the 2nd half to put away Newton 50-36.
In the Varsity Boys game, Myles Thompson had another big night with 28 points while Sophomore Garrett Robinson stole the show with 17 points in the 1st quarter including five 3pt baskets. Robinson was saddled with foul trouble in the 2nd quarter to finish the game with 20 points.
Hutchinson held on to control the game to win 78-63.
Next action for the Salthawks has the Lady Salthawks traveling to Maize on Monday night for a rescheduled game with the Eagles at 7pm and the Hutch High Boys hosting Andover Central at the SAC at 7:30pm on the same evening. That game is also a rescheduled game.
