HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Family Community Theatre presents its seasonal show for 2021. The show this year is The Best Christmas Pageant Ever, the Musical.
"It is about a family of young people that have less than what everybody else has," said director Craig Williams. "They are called the Herdmans. They are considered the worst kids in town. What they go about doing is, they steal, lie, cheat, steal kids lunches, they do everything that bullies would do. They get involved with a Christmas pageant and though that is not the most popular thing with those who are generally in the pageant, it makes a big difference in their lives. It turns out to be a very positive impact upon not only the Herdmans, but also the churchgoers."
The Wilk family, Sam, Morgan and Maisy are all in the cast, along with another three generational family where a grandmother, daughter, granddaughter and grandson will all be on stage. For the Wilks, they are looking forward to performing in the same production.
"It's a lot of fun that we're all in the play together," Sam Wilk said. "Graciously, the Family Community Theatre cast us. The story that it tells is wonderful. After reading the script, it's very heartwarming. I think everybody will leave there with a happy face. There's a lot of comedy. A lot of fun stuff in there."
It's an opportunity for those who want to create a new tradition with family that may be visiting to do so.
"We have done this for a number of years, where we've had that first Friday after Thanksgiving," Williams said. "For those who have traveled away from Hutchinson for their Thanksgiving celebration, we run it again that next weekend. We think this is a great time to bring the show, whatever we're doing during this time, for two weekends."
Shows are at 7:30 p.m. November 26 and 27 and 3 p.m. November 28 and again at 7:30 p.m. December 2-4 and 3 p.m. December 5. You can get advance tickets at Absolutely Home and Bookends Book Store and online at familycommunitytheatre.org.
