RICHMOND, Virginia – Freshman Collin Oswalt was a Top 50 placer and Camelo Tarin ran a PR on Saturday to lead the Hutchinson Community College men’s cross country team at the NJCAA Division I Men’s National Championship at Pole Green Park.
The Blue Dragons had only four runners competing and didn’t produce a team score.
For the sixth race this season, Oswalt was the top Blue Dragon runner. He placed 35th in a time of 26:03.9 on the championship 8,000-meter course.
Tarin posted his best time of his freshman season in 26:45.1. Tarin finished 56th overall. Tarin broke 27 minutes for the first time this season.
Sophomore Andrew Holt placed 87th in a time of 27:24.61. Last season, Holt placed 37th at nationals.
Sophomore Aaron Geissinger placed 123rd in a time of 28:18.7
Northwest Tech’s Vincent Nchogu was the 2021 individual national champion, the first Region VI runner to win a national crown since Hutchinson’s Andrew Kibet in 2018. Nchogu ran a time of 24:04.8
Iowa Central won the men’s team championship with 63 points. Iowa Western was second with 127 points and Colby was third with 140 points.
