
HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Salthawks dropped a pair of games to the Maize South Mavericks on Tuesday evening at Hobart-Detter Field. Maize South won the opener, 10-6 before winning the second, 3-2.
Game 1: Maize South 10, Hutchinson 6
Hutchinson jumped out to lead in the first inning following a pair of singles and a sacrifice fly by Cole Bleything to put the Salthawks on the board first. The Salthawks added one more following a wild pitch to score Caiden Beavers.
The Salthawks added two more in the second on an RBI double by Carter Morgan and another wild pitch that plated Morgan.
Maize South plated four runs in the top of the third inning to take a 5-4 lead.
Hutchinson scored two in the bottom of the fourth inning to regain the lead on a two-run single by Cole Bleything to put the Salthawks up 6-5.
Maize South scored a single run in the fifth and sixth inning and then added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh.
Morgan and Bleything each finished with a two-hit game and drove in all four runs, three for Bleything and one for Morgan.
Game 2: Maize South 3, Hutchinson 2
The Salthawks' rally in the bottom of the seventh came up just short, stranding the bases loaded with one out in the inning.
Maize South scored the first two runs of the game, coming on an RBI single and a sacrifice fly in the second inning.
Hutchinson scored its first run in the third inning on a wild pitch that plated Morgan.
The Salthawks added one more in the fourth on an RBI triple by Jack Yoder, plating Lakin Franz to tie the game at two.
The final run in the game was scored in the top of the sixth inning on an error by the Salthawks.
Hutchinson loaded the bases with one out in the seventh but were unable to score any runs.
The Salthawks are now 4-7 overall and will travel to Haysville on Friday to play the Campus Colts at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m.
