
BUHLER, Kan.-Julian Smith couldn't be out scored by his younger sister Kaia in Friday night game versus cross county rival Buhler, so he mixed in a couple of free throws to end the night with 26 points in route to an 84-58 win over the crusaders.
The two siblings hit a combined total of 12 three point baskets in the sweep over Buhler.
Kaia Smith connected with four trifecta's in the first half and led Hutch High's scoring attack with 21 total points to fuel a 50-44 win over the Crusaders.
The Salthawks had a comfortable 12 point lead at the half 27-15 but Buhler's freshman guard Ella Foss started connecting in the fourth quarter as Buhler got as close as three points on two different occasions before Azariah Dawes used a weak side rebound put-back late in the game to shut the door on the Crusaders.
Hutch High (2-0) travels to Salina South on Tuesday. Buhler (1-2) hosts McPherson.
In the boy's game, Buhler's junior guard Mitchel McDaniel opened the scoring with a right elbow three pointer, but the Salthawks answered back with three straight long range baskets by Tai Clark and Julian Smith combined to lead 9-3 early in the first quarter.
The Salthawks used Smith's four first half three point baskets to build a 20 point, 45-25 lead at the half.
The Salthawks four players in double figures led by Julian Smith's 26 points. Senior guard Tai Clark tallied 17 followed by Taishaun Govain's 14 points, 10 of which came in the fourth quarter. Devon Spiller added 10 points to finish the double digit scoring.
Hutch High (2-0) travels to Salina South on Tuesday. Buhler (1-2) hosts AVCTL Div. III rival McPherson at home on Tuesday.
