HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Kristen Webb, a labor and delivery nurse at Hutchinson Regional Medical Center, is the December 2024 First Responder of the Month from Allen Samuels CDJR. Webb is being honored this month for her assistance with the Reno County Shop with a Sheriff program.

"My husband works for the Sheriff's Department," Webb said. "I help him out every year that I am not working. It's not just the kids show up, here's your present. They had Santa, they had the Grinch, they had the Bearkat. They really do a lot to make it special for the kiddos."

Webb also is able to see a lot of her patients on their best day, as they get to have additions to their families.

"It's really rewarding, seeing a family of two turn into a family of three or get even more kids than they had. It's pretty awesome to see that change, see them really become parents, step into that role, and just seeing life start. It's pretty amazing. I never thought that I would be in this area. It is very rewarding, being able to help them through. It is such a new experience. As first time parents, you don't know at all what you are doing, no matter how many classes you go to, so to kind of help them through that time of uncertainty is also pretty cool."

Most days Webb is able to stay positive at her job, too.

"It's hard to have a bad attitude when you are experiencing life coming into the world," Webb said. "Maybe they are having a difficult time, so helping them through that really can change their whole experience."
