GARDEN CITY, Kan.โ€”The Hutchinson Salthawk Boys overcame turnovers, poor shooting from the field and free throw line and foul trouble to survive and advance over the Dodge City Sub-State top seed Garden City 51-43 at Garden City High School.

Senior guard Jake Huhs scored 10 of his 12 points in the second half after the Salthawks trailed at the half 19-17. The Salthawks placed four players in double figures let my Senior Myles Thompson with 14.  Sophomore Garrett Robertson had 10 and Treyton Peterson had 11 including two 3's in the 4th quarter that sealed the win for the Salthawks.

Sophomore Nic Lange had a basket and was fouled early in the 3rd quarter then Robertson got an in-bound steal plus the basket to tie the game at 22.  Hutch pulled a way and while the Buffaloes got close, they never could take the lead in the 2nd half.

Hutchinson now travels to Dodge City for the Championship game on Friday night at 6pm to see who will advance to the 6A State Tournament next week.  Hutch is now 6-13, but has played some very tough competition close in many games this season.

Hutchinson had not won a 1st round Sub-State game since the 2013-14 season.  Hutch did win a play-in game over Wichita West in 2018 but then lost to Washburn Rural that season.
