Surge shut out Drillers Sunday in Tulsa

Tulsa, OK – Wind Surge starter Austin Schulfer had a no-hit bid going into the seventh inning and allowed just one hit and Wichita shut-out the Tulsa Drillers 3-0 to earn a series split Sunday.

Schulfer bounced back from a loss on Tuesday against Tulsa, he worked six and two third innings allowed one hit, one walk and hit a batter and six strikeouts for his first win of the season.

Jose Miranda singled in the third inning and scored on a sacrifice fly. The Surge added two more runs in the fifth with RBI single from Ernie De La Trinadad and RBI double from Jermaine Palacios to extend the lead to 3-0.

The Surge bullpen of Jovani Moran, Alex Phillips and Yennier Cano silenced the Drillers bats and held Tulsa to a season low one hit. Wichita picked up its league leading fourth shutout.

The Wind Surge improve to 11-7 and remain a half game back of first place Arkansas.

The Wind Surge improve to a league best 8-4 record on the road.  Wichita pitchers held Tulsa to a .139 batting average in the six game series. Sunday’s game was delayed 28 minutes at the start due to potential rain.

The Wind Surge are back home against the Springfield Cardinals starting Tuesday.
