Property owners in the Plevna area who sustained damage from the recent tornado may be eligible for property tax relief under Kansas law, county officials announced.

According to the Reno County Appraiser’s Office, homeowners and building owners whose properties were destroyed or substantially damaged by the storm may qualify for relief under Kansas Statute KSA 79-1613. The office is currently conducting damage assessments and is encouraging residents to complete a Disaster Relief Application to ensure their properties are properly evaluated.

While the application is not mandatory, officials say it can expedite the review process. Forms are available online at the Reno County government website.

In addition to tax relief, those planning to rebuild may be eligible for financial incentives through Reno County’s Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NRP). The program offers rebates and assistance to support the reconstruction of properties impacted by disasters. More information is available at https://www.renocountyks.gov/neighborhood-revitalization.

Residents with questions are encouraged to contact the Reno County Appraiser’s Office at 620-694-2915 during normal business hours.

To provide further assistance, Reno County Commission Vice-Chairman Ron Hirst and County Appraiser Michael Plank will attend the Plevna City Council meeting on Monday, June 9, at 7 p.m. Community members are welcome to attend and speak with them directly about damage assessments and available relief programs.
