HUTCHINSON, Kan. — A back and forth game went the way of the Hutchinson Monarchs Monday night at Hobart-Detter, as they won over the Sunflower Seeds 10-5.
The Monarchs plated a pair in the second, before the Seeds bounced back in the top of the fifth, but Hutchinson got two in its half to lead 4-2 after five. Both teams got single tallies in the seventh and then the Seeds brought it even at 5-5 with Hutchinson coming to bat in the eighth.
The Monarchs strung together a Cal Watkins single, Tanner Schrag being hit by a pitch, a Caden Green single and Easton Loyd being hit by a pitch for their first run, then Schrag and Green both scored on Jack Mount wild pitches and Loyd scored on a Cooper Harris single. Tanner White then doubled in Harris off of Dawson Cannan before Cannan was able to get them out of the inning.
Caden Pogue then closed it out on the mound for Hutchinson. The Monarchs improve to 7-1 on the year. The Seeds are 1-10. The two teams are off Tuesday before resuming Wednesday night at 7 p.m. at Hobart-Detter.
