WICHITA, Kan. - The Hattiesburg, MS Black Sox defeated the Denver, CO Cougars 9-4 in the 2020 NBC World Series powered by Evergy on Wednesday night at Eck Stadium.

Jamal Washington and Marcus Regan led the Black Sox with two hits and two RBIs each, with Carter Pennington going 3-for-4 at the plate for the Cougars.

A single to right field by JT Hall allowed the game’s first run to score in the bottom of the first inning for the Black Sox, with two more runs crossing home following an error in the outfield. The Cougars chipped away to make it a one-run game through the middle of the fourth inning, but a two-RBI single from Regan and a wild pitch gave the Black Sox three runs to push the lead 6-2.

The Cougars cut the deficit to two runs after the top of the eighth inning, but the Black Sox struck again with another three-run outing in the bottom of the eighth. A solo home run from Pablo Lanzarote and a two-RBI double from Washington gave the Black Sox the five-run lead carried through the end of the game.

The Black Sox will play the Hutchinson, KS Monarchs on Thursday at 8:30 p.m. in Hutchinson.
