HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The first time Hutchinson and Maize South met this season was a one-point Maverick win.

With regard to the margin, history repeated itself Friday night at the Salthawk Activity Center, as a basket by Isaiah Atwater with six seconds left provided the winning points. Garrett Robertson's buzzer-beater three just missed that would have won it for Hutch High. Maize South won 45-44.

Hutch High had a mountain to climb for most of the game, as they trailed 14-8 after one quarter, 26-20 at the break and 37-32 after three. They had a brief lead at 44-43 just prior to Atwater's finish.

The Mavericks were paced by sophomore Tory Homan's 21 points. Atwater and Jeron Askren each had seven.

Hutchinson was led by Nick Lange's 15 points, Dauntay King had 9 and Kinser Newquist 8 in the loss. Hutch High is home on Tuesday for Senior Night against Haysville Campus.
