HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Since the Reno County Planning Commission is still in the process of writing solar regulations after calls for edits by the Board of County Commissioners, the Board of County Commissioners on Wednesday voted to extend the solar moratorium into 2025.
However, the two exiting commissioners, John Whitesel and Daniel Friesen, both made the point that they would like to see as much work done at the Planning Commission's Dec. 23 meeting as possible, so as to not leave a bunch of solar work to a county commission with two brand new members.
According to agenda documents, an extension of the moratorium was passed on June 26th, 2024, for it to be in effect until December 1st, 2024, an additional extension of the mortarium has been requested so that the planning commission can continue their work. The moratorium for consideration would last until March 1st, 2025, but could be removed earlier if the planning commission is able to complete their process before that time.
