First day of NBC, Kansas teams go 2-3

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The first full day of the National Baseball Congress at Hobart-Detter Field is in the books and two Kansas teams got first game wins, while three were first game losers.

The action opened with a 7-5 win for the Austin, TX Lonestar Baseball Squad over the Great Bend Bat Cats. Austin scored all seven of its runs in the fifth inning in the win.

In the second game of the day, the Cheney Diamond Dawgs won 9-4 over the Boulder, CO Collegians. Ryan Koval drove in four runs for Cheney in the win.

Game three was an all Kansas matchup, as the Derby Twins beat Liberal 5-4, with Derrick Winn driving in Cade Baker on a walkoff sacrifice fly.

In the nightcap, the Seattle Studs made quick work of the 316 Elite 19U team 14-0 in just five innings.

The schedule for Thursday is below:

Noon - 316 Sluggers vs. Puerto Rican Collegiate Team

3 p.m.- Hays Larks vs. Mid-Crest, IL Pumas

6 p.m.- Hutchinson Monarchs vs. San Diego, CA Stars

8:30 p.m.- Santa Barbara, CA Foresters vs. Waco, TX Sultanes

Games then continue Friday at Noon, 3 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and Saturday at Noon, 3 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. and Sunday at 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 4 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

The games transition to Riverfront Stadium in Wichita for those still playing by Monday.
