40 Blue Dragon Student Athletes earn NJCAA All-Academic awards

Despite a trying athletics and academic season, Hutchinson Community College landed 40 student-athletes on the 2019-20 NJCAA All-Academic teams, the national office released on Friday.

Sixteen Blue Dragons earned first-team NJCAA All-Academic honors. Criteria for a first-team selection is a 4.00 grade-point average.

To earn a spot on the second team, a student-athlete must have a GPA between 3.80 and 3.99. Eight Blue Dragons earned second-team honors. Sixteen Blue Dragons earned third-team all-academic status, which is a GPA of 3.60-3.79.

In all, there were 42 All-Academic award winners wearing Blue Dragons uniforms in 2019-29. Two student-athletes – Megan Miller and Lisayo Ewoi were named NJCAA All-Academic in both cross country and track and field.

Overall, there were 9,555 student-athletes honored by the NJCAA for their academic success this past season. Of that group, 2,427 student-athletes were first-team honorees.
