🎥 New general takes command at Fort Riley

FORT RILEY —Maj. Gen. D.A. Sims was introduced Friday as the new commanding general for the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley during an assumption of command ceremony on the Cavalry Parade Field.

"I commit to the Soldiers, NCO's, Officers and Civilians here at Fort Riley that my number one priority as the commanding general is you and your families."

Sims said the Division will be ready to deploy and fight the nation's wars if necessary. "But we will do this by ensuring every one of us has what is needed to contribute to the synergy of the organization. Duty first indeed, but people always. All else follows.

Sims succeeds Lt. General John Kolasheski who is now the commanding general for the U.S. Army Fifth Corp.

Fort Riley —Maj. Gen. D.A. Sims will assume command of the 1st Infantry Division and Fort Riley during a ceremony Friday morning.

His recent assignments include Deputy Director for Regional Operations and Force Management with the Joint Staff in Washington D.C. and Director of Operations, Readiness and Mobilization in the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff and Deputy Commanding General ( Support ) for the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas.

The Assumption of Command ceremony, bid farewell to the 1st Infantry Division's Commanding General, Lt. Gen. John S. Kolasheski, and welcome for incoming Commanding General Sims is scheduled for 10a.m. at the Cavalry Parade Field.
