Monarchs drop extra-inning contest to Sunflower Seeds, doubleheader scheduled

WICHITA, Kan. — The Sunflower Seeds won a 13 inning donnybrook over the Hutchinson Monarchs Tuesday night in Wichita 5 to 4.

The Seeds won it in the 13th as a Cody Farmer walk of Micah Grover came back to haunt him. Farmer struck out Cale Blasi, but Farmer stole second as Koby Burdett drew another walk and Bryce Nittler drove Grover home with the walk-off double.

The Monarchs scored their four runs in the game's first four innings before Cody Bush slammed the door on them. Bush threw 6 and a third innings of shutout ball with seven strikeouts in relief of Bryce Kennard. Blake Frye got the win for the Seeds, throwing one and two thirds innings of scoreless work.

The Monarchs left 14 runners on base in the loss.

The Monarchs and Seeds will meet tonight for a double dip in Hutchinson. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 6 p.m. at Hobart-Detter.
