WBB: Dragons use 24-0 run to erase early deficit

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — No. 21 Hutchinson (1-0) faced an early 10-9 deficit Tuesday night against Bethany's JV.

After being down one with more than six minutes gone, the Dragon women put on a 24-0 run over the course of the next nine minutes. Hutchinson closed the half on a 34-7 run. 

The Swedes scored just two points in the third quarter as the Dragons opened up a 65-19 advantage.

Hutchinson finished the night with a 95-24 victory. 

Four Dragons scored in double-digits, led by Mya Williams, who had 17.

Tor'e Alford led the Dragons with 13 at the break, but finished with 16 after posting just six second-half minutes. 

Ziya Simms scored 11 and Mele Kailahi added 10 for the Dragons. Two other players, Natalie Payne and Kali Howard, each added nine. 

Hutchinson came away with 24 assists on 33 made baskets. 

Mary Parks led the Swedes with six points. 

Bethany shot just 17.9%. Hutchinson shot 49.3% on the night. 

The Dragons will play again Friday and Saturday in the Sports Arena for the BSN Sports Tipoff Classic. Both games will start at 5:30 p.m.
