MAIZE, Kan.—The last minute of play in both games at Maize South were tough on the Salthawk Girls and Boys Friday night as both teams had chances to win but came up short.

The Salthawk girls saw a close game slip away from them due to 23 turnovers and Maize South took advance of many of them by turning them into points.

A Maize South 1 point lead at half and a 2 point lead going into the fourth quarter was enough to extend the difference to 6 as the Mavericks edged the Salthawks 42-36.

Hutchinson falls to 7-9 on the season a play Derby at home on Monday night a 6pm at the SAC.

In the Boys game, Maize South hit 2 free throws in the final 26 seconds to edge the Salthawks 44-42.  A last second shot attempt by Jake Huhs bounced off the rim and another very close game slipped out of reach for the Salthawks.

Hutch trailed 39-30 late in the 4th quarter before Nic Lang scored and was fouled.  Lang hit the free throw then shortly after, Garrett Robertson hit a long rance 3 to close the gap to 38-36.

The game was tied at 42 when Maize South's sophomore Isaiah Atwater was fouled by the Salthawks.  Atwater hit both free throws to give the Mavericks the win.

Hutchinson hosts Derby on Monday night at the SAC at 7:30pm.
