HUTCHINSON, Kan. — As the Haven school district discusses at a special board meeting tonight what they will do about instruction with the county's gating criteria in the orange, current county health officer Karen Hammersmith will be going to that meeting.
"Clark Wedel asked me," Hammersmith said. "He's the superintendent over at Haven. He asked me to attend the Haven school board meeting tonight, so I will go to that."
Hammersmith said collaboration between the health department and the superintendents throughout the county has been good.
"We have a lot of input in what is going on in the schools," Hammersmith said. "It's not necessarily that we're dictating to the schools or anything. It's that they wanted to work together as a community, because its a community issue."
Though other districts across the county have begun hybrid models of instruction, Haven had stuck with in person until Tuesday's meeting could be held. It is at 6 p.m. at Haven High School.
