SPRINGFIELD, Mo.—The Wichita Wind Surge are 1-7 after a 5-3 loss to the Springfield Cardinals at Hammons Field. The Cardinals collected four runs in the bottom of the first inning and rode the wave to their best season-opening winning streak in franchise history.

The first inning home runs that have become common for Wichita maintained their status in this one. Ben Rossworked his first round-tripper in a Wind Surge uniform to center field to put Wichita ahead 1-0 two batters into the contest.

Emmanuel Rodriguez also didn’t show any signs of slowing down as the weekend progressed by hitting his fourth home run of the series to left field in the top of the fifth. The blast also scored Alerick Soularie to make it a one-run ballgame after the two-run shot.

The Wind Surge put runners on base in the seventh, eighth, and ninth innings but couldn’t work their way over the hump and score to take the lead in their sixth straight loss. Wichita will aim to avoid a series sweep with the Cardinals at Hammons Field tomorrow afternoon on Sunday, April 14, with the first pitch time set for 1:05 PM.
