HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The No. 15 Panola College Ponies ended their season in the second round of the tournament to the No.2 South Plains College Texans Monday night. South Plains beat Panola 80-76.
Panola led at halftime 49-36. South Plains drew even with about 14 minutes left in the game. From there it was a back and forth game. Overall, there were seven tied scores and five lead changes.
South Plains Jabori McGhee led the Texans in scoring with 22 points and Sophomore forward Malique Ewin scored 21. Freshman guard Jonah Hinton led the Ponies in scoring with 17 points and sophomore guard Christian Henry scored 16.
Sophomore guard Hugo Mattioli recorded four steals for the Ponies and Sophomore guard Jermahri Hill recorded four steals as well for the Texans. Panola won the rebound battle slightly 38-37.
South Plains out-shot Panola from the 3-point line by going 60.0% to Panola's 42.9%.
South Plains will play the winner of No. 10 Trinity Valley Community College and No. 7 Triton College in the quarterfinals on Wednesday, March 27 at 2:15 p.m.
