🏀 MBB: No. 15 Blue Dragons win sixth straight, defeat T-Birds

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The No. 15 Hutchinson Community College men's basketball team secured its sixth straight win, defeating Cloud County 75-56 on Saturday at the Sports Arena.

Hutchinson (20-3, 15-2 KJCCC) built a 20-point lead at halftime, 44-24. The Blue Dragons suffocating defense made it hard for Cloud County (16-8, 11-7) to do anything with the basketball.

Cloud County shot 27 percent from the floor (16-of-58), including 23 percent (5-of-21) from behind the arc.

The Blue Dragons on the other hand shot 49 percent (24-of-49), knocking down 41 percent (7-of-17) from the three-point line. Hutchinson also got it done at the foul line, knocking down 20-of-23 (87 percent) free throw attempts.

Four Hutchinson players scored in double figures, led by Dallas Whitney with 19 points off the bench. Kam Thomas scored 15 points, while Tino Simon secured his third straight double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds. 

Ja'Ron Briggs led the T-Birds with 15 points, nine of which came from the free throw line. Cheik Sow finished with a double-double, 12 points and 14 rebounds.

The Blue Dragons will travel to Arkansas City to play No. 10 Cowley on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.
