USD 308 BOE sets all Fridays as remote when in orange and red zone starting Dec. 4

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Public Schools Board of Education Monday (Nov. 23, 2020) altered the modified hybrid attendance plan in place when the school gating criteria is in either the orange or red zone as long as staffing allows for it.

Under the change, Fridays, beginning Dec. 4, will be full remote learning days for all pre-kindergarten through high school senior students. Mondays and Wednesdays will continue to be in-person learning for Group A students (last names starting with A to L) with Tuesdays and Thursdays in-person learning for Group B students (last names starting with M to Z). Group A will learn remotely on Tuesdays and Thursdays while Group B learn remotely on Mondays and Wednesdays.

Previously, Group A and Group B students attended alternate Fridays. Schools are closed this Friday for the Thanksgiving Recess.

The Board also received the annual audit report. Each year, the district’s finances are audited by an outside entity. USD 308 contracts with Swindoll, Janzen, Hawk & Loyd, LLC, to do the audit.

Auditors found no issues with finances for the 2019-20 school year. Two issues surfaced in the 2018-19 budget were corrected during the recent school year as well.

In other action, the Board:

Tabled paying fees for EAB for research support.

Approved minutes of the Nov. 9 Board meeting.

Approved the Classified Handbook for 2020-21.

Approved submitting an application to the Kansas Department of Education for the district to develop official K-12 and adult virtual programs.

Approved Operational Expectation No. 5 – Fiscal Planning.

Approved Operational Expectation No. 2 – Superintendent Succession.

Approved submitted grant applications.

Approved the purchase of 11 Clear Touch devices for Head Start.

Approved the Treasurers Report for October 2020.

Held an executive session for non-elected personnel.

Held a study session on a community advisory committee, on a facility study and on operational expectations reviews.

A used refrigerator and a used freezer, valued at $3,000, from Hutchinson Walmart to the district’s Nutrition Services Program.
