🏈 Salthawks score often in shutout of Newton

HUTCHINSON, Kan. — The Hutchinson Salthawks locked in a first round playoff home game with a 56-0 win over the Newton Railers on Friday night in Gowans Stadium on senior night.

Kade Smith started it off with 32 yard run with 9:14 to go in the first quarter that capped off a 5 play, 80 yard drive on a run that put the senior over the 1,000 yard mark on the season.

Smith touched the ball four times and scored on three of those carries for three touchdowns on the night with a total of 205 yards. Smith's other touchdown runs were from 79 and 91 yards.

Hutch earned 401 yards on 32 carries on the night.

Not to be outdone was Terrell King with three touchdowns on six carries for a total of 112 yards.

Freshman Larry Jeremiah debuted with six carries, 70 yards and the other touchdown from 43 yards out.

Taysen Runyon added two field goals in the second quarter. One from 21 yards and the second from a season-long 47 yards.

The Salthawk defense shined as well only allowing 52 yards of total offense on 36 attempts.

All five Salthawk victories have been shut outs this season. The last time that Hutchinson had five shut outs was in 1945.

Hutchinson (5-2) closes out the regular season on the road at Maize South (5-2). 

Newton (0-7) closes out at home versus Arkansas City (1-6).

Hutch High is currently holding down the sixth seed in the class 5A West with Maize South one slot back in the seventh seed position.
