SALINA, Kan.โThe Hutch High Boys Basketball team entered the 4th quarter of the game against Salina South Tuesday night trailing 40-26 but rallied back to pull within two at 47-45 and had possession of the ball but turned the ball over to allow the Cougars to push their record to 5-0 with the final score being 48-45 South with the win.
Both teams were a bit sluggish coming out of the gate. The squads battled to a 7-all tie to start before Hutch pulled away for a brief 12-7 lead. That was when Salina South's Senior Josh Jordan took over. Jordan hit on back-to-back threes, sparking a 14-0 burst to give South a 21-12 cushion early in the second. The Salthawks were held to four points in the period, building a 28-16 halftime advantage.
Myles Thompson had a big night and led the Salthawks in scoring with 16 points and 16 rebounds for the double-double. Jake Huhs added 15 points as the Salthawks shot 45% from the field. South finished the game shooting 41%.
Hutchinson will host Haysville-Campus on January 8th of the new year.
One note, the postponed Newton game has been tentatively rescheduled for January 9th at Newton.
