MULVANE, Kan. - The Hutchinson Monarchs (19-4) took the lead late in the game in a 5-3 victory over Mulvane Patriots in Mulvane on Wednesday night. The game was tied at three with Monarchs batting in the top of the seventh when Austin Callahan homered on a 1-2 count, scoring two runs.
Aaron Haase was credited with the victory for Hutchinson. He lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing zero hits and zero runs while striking out nine and walking zero. Ryne Schooley threw one-third of an inning in relief out of the bullpen.
Liam Eddy started the game for Hutchinson. He allowed 7 hits and 2 runs over 5 innings, striking out 3 and walking none.
Clayton Chadwick and Callahan both hit home runs in the seventh inning. The Monarchs had 7 hits in the game. Scott Wolverton and Anthony Mackenzie each collected multiple hits for Hutchinson. Mackenzie and Wolverton each managed two hits to lead Hutch in hitting.
Both teams match up again tonight in Mulvane with the first pitch at 7 pm.
