๐Ÿ€ Hutch Girls finish strong in 43-30 win over Salina South

SALINA, Kan. โ€” Better late than never might have been what the Hutchinson Girls were thinking as the Hutch Salthawk Girls turned on the pressure to score 18 of their 43 points in a game that came down to the final period to defeat Salina South 43-40 on Thursday night in Salina

Hutch used a 22-4 burst in the second half to turn a seven-point deficit into a 43-30 road victory at Salina South Thursday night. The Salthawks improved to 2-0 while the Cougars fell to 0-5.

Salina Southโ€™s used strong defense and controlled the tempo of the game in the first half and kept the game close as the Salthawks rallied to tie it at 7-7 at the end of the first quarter.

Salina South started to pull away in the second quarter but Hutch closed the gap again to tie it at 15-15 at halftime..

South took advantage of turnovers to open the second half. The Cougars scored points off several Hutchinson miscues to build a 7 point lead midway at 22-15 through the third before Ziya Simms gave the Salthawks the lead at 25-24 going into the 4th and final period.

Hutch was quiet for much of the 3rd period being held scoreless until the 3:15 mark of the 3rd before the Salthawks went on a 22-4 spurt to go ahead by 11 to pull away for the win. Sophomore Mya Thompson had 8 of those 22 alone in the final quarter.

Ziya Simms led Hutch with 14 points. Harlie Wilson added 12.

Kylie Arnold led South with nine points. Hutchinson is of until Haysville-Campus comes to the Salthawk activity center  on January 8 of 2021.
