HUTCHINSON, Kan. - Behind 15 hits in eight innings, the Houston, TX Express defeated Lonestar, TX Baseball Club 15-7 in the 2020 NBC World Series powered by Evergy on Tuesday night at Hobart-Detter Field.
Gales DeVaughn led the Express with five hits in six at-bats, scoring four runs to go with five RBIs. The Express had four players that recorded multi-hit outings, with Lonestar having three players with at least two hits.
Phillip Jones of the Express shined in the final 6.1 innings of play, coming up with 10 strikeouts and earning the win in the process. Tristen Bayless of Lonestar recorded eight strikeouts in 3.2 innings pitched.
After being tied 2-2 at the end of the first inning, Lonestar used a five-run top of the second inning to move ahead 7-2. The Express, however, scored 10 unanswered runs to lead 12-7 after three innings of play. The Express scored three more runs to cap off the run-rule effort in the eighth inning.
The Express takes on the Rose Hill, KS Sluggers at 6 p.m. in Hutchinson on Thursday.
