HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Hutchinson USD 308 Superintendent Mike Folks told Hutch Post Thursday that the USD 308 school board is looking to put together the best pieces of the Coherent Governance model that the district has used for quite some time with the data presentation consistent with the model from the Kansas Association of School Boards in an effort to find the best of both worlds and they will try to work that out in a special meeting Monday.
"The board has a notebook, a three-ring notebook that they've had for a long time related to Coherent Governance," Folks said. "They're going to bring those and look at what we currently have. We have our kind of strategic academic plan under KESA and the Kansans Can model. We're going to share some of that and we're going to lay everything out that they have in their notebooks and we're just going to tackle it that way."
There are several reporting requirements that are part of the Coherent Governance framework that the district may want to keep, but in order to remain consistent with Kansas Educational Systems Accreditation and the redesign process for individual schools, some of the achievement numbers need to be presented differently.
"The board is just going to kind of pick and choose what they want to keep out of the old model and what they want to add," Folks said. "Specifically, the results piece, the academic results, out of the KASB or the Kansans Can model."
An important point of the KESA model is a focus on postsecondary success, or student success in life after K-12 education, along with civic engagement for students. The meeting will be Monday evening at 6 p.m. at the USD 308 Administrative Center at 1520 N Plum.
